"The Steamer" is a novel about the life and loves of crew and passengers on a post-ww2 emigrant liner, from its builder's shipyard to the breaker's yard. Passengers taking life-changing voyages to opposite sides of the world range from the wealthy in first class suites to ten pound assisted passage migrants down in the bowels of the ship. Crews range from Captain through to bell boy, from social hostess through to stewardess. Loves, betrayals and tragedies of those on board follow the travels of the steamer.
