It's a potato party!
Spudbert (Spuddy) is a middle school potato who just wants to have adventures with his best friends Chomp and Raven. Told through different stories, Spuddy explores all that Chudland has to offer while also getting into hilarious hijinks.
Kid Potato is a middle grade book that will be a new favourite for kids, especially with locales like Dog Poo Hill, which I know my nephews will be keeled over laughing at that. The wacky situations are innocent romps for kids who want to read something that will keep them entertained and me them laugh; it's sure to be a staple of 2026 school read-a-thons.
I especially loved the chapter about the speciality toilet that his grandmother has in her care home that's capable of creating a vortex, amongst many other things.
I look forward to seeing what Spuddy gets into with the next volume!

Very silly mostly-illustrated chapter book.... about a potato.
Whizzed through this in about half an hour. Primary-aged readers will like this for the text-light content, quirky themes and barmy humour.
In several chapters, Spuddy the potato takes us on a madcap journey through several escapades in his life - doing a school project with another kid called... Kid Evil. Meeting an alien who's landed nearby and wants to go home. Chapters about toilets. Pets. Weird best friends.
It was all very bizarre, lots of black and white illustrations make up the majority of this 200+ page length. My 8-year-old saw me reading it and wants to try it next, and I know when we take it in to his class they'll all take it in turns and giggle away.
Very much the right sort of read for 7-10 year olds who like an easy read and ridiculous content.

This book had similar vibes to Diary of a Wimpy Kid and DogMan. The main character is a middle school potato named Spuddy who hangs out with his friends, Chomp and Raven. We loved that all of the teachers were vegetables and Carson’s favorite scenes included aliens and a robot toilet. This book was 100% written for an audience of elementary school boys and judging by the laughter from my son while he was reading it, the writing was perfectly engaging! The bright illustrations and limited words on the page make it perfect for early readers in 2nd/3rd grade and is a great book for students who tend to choose graphic novels. Thanks to NetGalley and the team at Clarkson Potter/Ten Speed Press for providing us an early copy of this book to read. This book comes out on May 5th and we’re looking forward to Kid Potato’s future adventures when book #2 in the series is released in September!

Perfectly adult-proof stories regarding our spud-like hero, evil classmates, killer toilets, alien friends and more. Designed to be daft, it's built of copious high-impact illustrations providing the jokes with a few of those nasty word things in the way as well. In actual fact, a lot of the pictures have words, with all the speech balloons being the quippage, often in that Simpsons-esque way of presenting the plot, then cutting away to something funny and coming back beats later. I found it a bit of an ordeal, to be honest, but to mark it as per the target reader this is a silly, fun, and very simple entertainment.

The book has some great illustrations and they are perfect for the story.
It was easy to follow and understand and I liked the layout and length of the chapters.
My daughter read it with ease and enjoyed it and we are already looking forward to reading the next book in the series!
It is 4 stars from me for this one - a great addition for any home library and primary school library too - I can see this being a really popular one with the children as it has some great characters!
