This is my go to lexicon for looking up Greek words in the New Testament. I eventually plan on investing in the massive BDAG volume that is the gold standard for NT study - but the price for that hulking volume is a bit on the steeper side..

The beauty of the Louw Nida volume is that each Greek word has definitions for each possible meaning - AND each word throughout the whole New Testament is given its specific meaning for its use in the specific context it is in. So if you’re wondering what a given word means specifically in a given circumstance in the New Testament, Louw Nida will have an answer!

Now, having said that - this an area which there’s plenty of debate and controversy on countless words. Louw & Nida are largely very good though - and are pretty fair in their interpretations. However on a few key words they tend to interpret more based on their theological framework than on the text itself. I personally disagree with a few of their translation choices (on the words ‘election’ and ‘propitiation’ for example). However - over all, this is a great tool for getting to the meaning behind the text - and for just geeking out with your Greek New Testament.
