She’s an escort with a secret agenda. Falling in love with the mark was never part of the deal. Marise has made a living slipping into roles. She becomes Veronica Hale, high-end escort, paid to be whatever her clients need. But behind the performance lies a hunter who spins her web of deceit to find secrets. Her latest assignment? Kathleen Knowles, a brilliant but socially awkward scientist on the verge of an energy breakthrough. The plan is simple. Get in, get what she came for, and get out. But even the best laid plans go astray. What begins as a calculated infiltration becomes something far more an emotional entanglement she can’t afford. Sensual, suspenseful, and emotionally gripping, Glass Spinner is a love thriller about trust, betrayal, and the choices we make.
Born and bred in Queensland, Australia, Maggie Brown has always been an advocate for women’s rights. An avid reader, she only discovered lesbian literature ten years ago, which opened a whole new world to her. A long-term artist, she turned her hand to writing for a different challenge. It’s become her passion, and she now has eight books on the shelves, two of which were finalists in the Golden Crown Literary awards. Her novels vary from thrillers to romances. Maggie loves dotting her pages with lots of interesting characters, and writes about relationships with a humorous eye. When she’s not writing, she’s a golf hacker, card sharp and movie buff, and particularly likes to chill out at night with a glass of wine and a good book.

I had all kinds of fun reading this book but the early suspense was almost too much.
Veronica Hale is a spy of sorts, hired by private entities to find incriminating dirt, corporate secrets, or any other vital info by any means necessary. She is newly assigned to investigate if a scientist, Dr. Kathleen Knowles, has made any breakthroughs in energy creation through plants. The fossil fuel industry is unhappy, to say the least, that Dr. Knowles might make their business obsolete even if practical implications are decades away. Veronica joins a high end escort service with the aim of becoming Kathleen’s companion and stealing her research data.
Firstly, both characters are well rounded. Veronica is well trained in all areas and a chameleon but she’s still a vulnerable person. Kathleen is brilliant but very guarded emotionally. They really click as a couple and it’s hard to read as they head to a truthful reckoning. I kept imagining the reveal like an imminent train wreck. Their chemistry is wonderful which made the waiting even worse but it kept me reading late into the night. I also enjoyed trying to figure out the mystery of who recruited Veronica and to what end. The secondary characters are solid too so a full world.
Excellent read and the ending is perfect. My first Maggie Brown book and I’ll definitely read more.
Firstly, an intriguing title, which is explained as we begin the book. Very different setting spurred on by the tantalising shadow of suspense, although the characters remained the pivotal point. As to the characters, they were a prime example of opposites attract, which always makes for entertaining reading. I really enjoyed this book.
Thrilling plot with unique characters! The growth of Kathleen's personality was masterfully crafted, and Marise/Veronica was a fabulous, complex heroine. Highly recommended!
I really enjoyed this story of Kathleen the brilliant scientist and Veronica the internet super sleuth. A very interesting plot line. I highly recommend
I really enjoyed the plot to this story. It was unique and I felt like it was hard to guess what would happen next. The background of each character was intriguing as well.
I docked a star for 2 reasons. One was that there were quite a few grammatical errors and sometimes the wrong character would be talking and it would confuse me so much that I’d have to reread the page for accuracy. The other reason was that even though the characters had depth, the chemistry wasn’t really there for me. Marise’s perspective didn’t show the turmoil you could tell she was feeling about falling for a target. Her feelings and thoughts felt a bit bland.
I really like Maggie Brown’s books. They’re exciting and romantic. Glass Spider is fantastic. When I saw the title I wondered where it came from. Thankfully Kathleen explains—in a beautifully natural but also chillingly prescient scene. Veronica’s eye slide says it all. Things will go wrong but will they go right in the end? You can probably guess the answer. How that happens is the delightful conundrum. At times, it seems insurmountable. And the idea at the centre—the plants? Amazing. You won’t be disappointed.
2 bad ass women! I loved the depth of character for both protagonists. Also, as a scientist, I loved that MB captured Kathlene‘s passion for science and her research—which always seems improbable until it’s not! The true ice queen, Marise, navigates the web like Lisbeth Salander! Thank you, Maggie!
This is an author I have rea before and wanted to give a second chance. Unfortunately, she is not for me. The writing is just lacking a certain something and I felt extremely disconnected from the characters the entire time which was a bummer. This was a solid premise just needed a little more love.
This is a light story in that you know there’s a HEA coming eventually but it’s much more than that. There are many opportunities to consider how we treat people and whether that’s different to how we actually treat the people around us. There’s atonement and awakening and characters to become invested in.
A nice wonderful story about two complicated women who simply love each other. A nice treat devoid of often so much sordid sexual descriptions that it takes away from the story. This was romantic and tastefully done. Thank you.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, as the subject was unique and kept me guessing until the end. Both main characters were well developed and very different. I highly recommend the Glass Spinner.
Engaging story and characters. MCs very different yet complement each other. Enjoyed the kindling romance between MCs as the plot unfolded, leading to a surprising ending. Throughly entertaining!
First time Maggie Brown reader and I will definitely be looking for more of her books! Lots of intrigue keeps the story alive and some good spice to keep it interesting! 5 🌟
I loved it. This is the second Maggie Brown book I've read and I'm hungry for more. The research she must do for her books is amazing and gives them depth. Her characters are believable, flaws and all.
A wonderful book, as usual with Maggie Brown. The great strength, which exists in all her books, is creating two main characters who have undeniable chemistry, but who are also likable individually.
