Absentminded Angel

Rate this book
Everyone deserves a second chance, even spoiled little rich girls. Accepting that she’s on her own, Presley Ann Woodworth is working hard to make a home for her and her baby, no matter what others—including interfering family members—say about her. When Kendry and Jared reveal their attraction, she thinks they’re nuts.

Kendry and Jared McCulloch have been captivated by their absentminded angel since the night they met her. Her son ensnares their hearts as well and they can’t understand why she’s so hard on herself because of her past. When the baby’s father shows up out of the blue, they put their hearts on the line to prove to her that they’re the men for her…and her son.

Letting her guard down with the men who want to claim her isn’t her only challenge, as she struggles with Mother Nature’s wrath, bad plumbing, nosy varmints, and the joys of colic. How much bad luck can one girl handle?

Heather Rainier

Heather Rainier lives and writes in South Central Texas. Her stories offer up the content of her fantasies, with humor, tragedy, and triumph mixed in.

Heather's love of romance fiction began as a teenager when her mom gave her copies of Kathleen Woodiwiss's "The Flame and the Flower" and Bertrice Small's "Skye O'Malley". To this day she's pretty sure that was her mom's version of the "birds and the bees" talk.

Heather writes the type of novel she loves to read: More erotic and edgy than the mainstream, with plenty of sweet romance mixed in and a happily ever after guaranteed. Heather's favorite type of hero is the gentle, lovable giant but readers will discover a wide variety of heroes and alphas on the pages of her novels.

When not at her keyboard, Heather is usually busy corralling her teenagers, or loving on her smokin' hot husband, who thankfully loves to cook.

Heather invites readers to e-mail her at heather.rainier@yahoo.com and also to visit her website at www.heatherrainier.com

You know I'm surprised by how much I liked this book. When Presley Anne was first introduced I HATED her. If it was possible to kill a fictional character I would have. However over the course of 20 books she has changed, a few books ago I even started to like and feel sorry for her. So when I realized this book would lead to her HEA I was happy and excited to read. Something I never would have believed.

I hate to say it, but Presley Anne needed to be taken down a few pegs and through choices of her own that is what happened. This new and humble Presley Anne was one that I found myself rooting for. I found myself upset and up in arms when her aunt had the balls to come into her hospital room right after giving birth and spewing her hate. I was glad that Kendry and Jared where there for her and protected her. Their courtship of Presley Anne was certainly an unusual one because for most of it Whit was included, as he should have been. Presley Anne was no longer a party of one, but of two and the men needed to accept him as well. I found the scenes with the men and Whit to be great. They were just as smitten with him and they were with Presley Anne. I thought the ceremony at the end was perfect, Whit deserved to be included.

The whole book I was waiting for Whit's father to come into play, but I never expected the way that things played out there. It's nice that they were able to have a civilized relationship, and I hated the regret that he was left with. But as he now has a reason to be in Divine things could get interesting as I hope he can find his match too.

Presley Ann Woodworth, spoiled diva princess, gets a taste of karma when a one night stand results in pregnancy with her entering the ranks of single mom status. But. Everyone deserve a second chance don't they. From the first moment Presley Ann lays eyes on her son Whittman Merritt Woodworth it's love at first sight and she'll do anything and everything to become the kind of mom he'll be proud of.

For brothers Kendry and Jared McCulloch, it was love at first sight the first time they saw Presley Ann Woodworth. No matter she was pregnant at the time, she's the girl they've always dreamed about but never thought they'd find. With no father/husband/partner in Presley Ann's life, they are determined to court the new mom hoping she'll give them a chance to be her husbands and a father to her son.

But is karma done when a series of issues keep popping up including a jealous ex girlfriend, family who feel Presley Ann should cut her loses and put up Whit for adoption, attack guard dogs, repeated wardrobe malfunctions, and the reality of parenthood and one's sex life. Not to mention the circumstances of a mysterious birth father who may not be ready to give up Presley Ann or his son.

* * *

This is a series that I've followed that takes place in a town where menage relationships are becoming more and more accepted. Though there are still the critics, for the most part the installments are shifting, for the most part, to a straightforward romance storyline, with a few bumps in the road to get to the HEA ending.

For those fans who want a steamy m-f-m read that is supported by a predictable plot, this is going to be well received. Myself, while I appreciated the plight of a single parent and the second chance for redemption slant, this story dragged and got bogged down in fluff and unnecessary fill. Having read many stories with similar themes, I don't think the author succeeded in creating a unique platform for the social injustice and/or court of public opinion inequality that single mothers experience. There was also one scene about the illegal pirating of books that had more of a 'getting this off my chest' by the author motive versus any real flow in the story itself. For the record, I am strongly opposed to pirating in all forms but I don't include that into my reviews just to put them there.

Adult content scenes. The author is comfortable with the menage relationship actions so readers will appreciate the multiple m/f and m/f/m scenes.

Overall, I am questioning if it isn't time to close out the Divine Creek series (and I don't say that lightly because I've enjoyed many many installments) as they're becoming cookie cutter editions with no real purpose other than the core romance and setting the stage for the next installments with new characters, new variables. I really struggled through the first 50% of this book as the core characters worked out circumstances in their relationship. I'm also gonna put it there that this book could have used the services of a content editor. One last concern. When an existing prototype is in existence, I have a hard time believing existing patent laws wouldn't make it illegal to copy that prototype and call it your own. I could be wrong but I did wonder.

For me this wasn't one of the better installments in the series but that's based on the fact I look for more than a romance storyline. However, I did appreciate the positive slant on love no matter the circumanstances and that everyone deserves a second chance.

I totally enjoyed reading this book! I love that Heather Rainier writes about strong female characters and how they discover they are stronger than they thought. It helps me believe that I can get through some rough times as well. Reading books helps me distress from my day. Reading the Divine Creek Series makes me feel like I am really there and visiting friends and family with each book. I have a lot of authors on my favorites list but, I have to say, Heather Rainier is in the top two. Her stories will keep you on the edge of your seat and excited on so many levels. Even though some of the stories are deep and grip your heart and soul, there is humor to keep the balance. BTW, what happened to the Maxwell brothers was priceless! Another great job, Heather! I can’t wait to see what the next installment of Divine Creek has in store for us!

Its hard for an author to redeem a character that has shown to be mean spirited, self-absorbed and self-centered, but Ms. Rainier has done it beautifully.

When we were first introduced to Presley Ann Woodworth, she was a spoiled brat of a woman who was all about herself, often to the detriment of others. She knowingly chased after men who were already in relationships and did her best to belittle those they loved.

After several failed attempts to find to steal a man or men from the ladies of Divine, Presley Ann has one last fling with a guy passing through town. The way he treated her let her know that she was obviously settling and vowed to change her ways. The next morning, Presley Ann regrets her decision not to exchange names, but knows it for the best.

When she find outs she's pregnant, Presley Ann is determined to make sure her child is loved and wanted. Changing her ways is hard, but she's knows that her child's wellbeing is more important than the material things in her closet.

Before Presley Ann can tell her family she's pregnant, her sister faces a devasting loss. Vowing to be a better sister, Presley Ann bucks up and does all she can to make up for the ways she has treated her sister, and everyone else in Divine, in the past.

Before long, Kendry and Jared appear in her life. Doing her best to avoid them and any romantic tendency they may have toward her, she keeps her head down and focused on her new number one: her child. Presley Ann also does her best to redeem herself in the eyes of those she has hurt, and doens't understand the forgiveness being shown to her.

Presley Ann's lack of self-confidence is one of her worst stumbling blocks. She believes she deserves the way her family treats her and does little to defend herself against their taunts and outright hostility.

Being with Jared and Kendry gives self-esteem a boost and her love for her child does wonders as well.

Seeing the evolution of Presley Ann over the past several books, and again in this one, has made me realize, again, what a wonderful author Ms. Rainier is.

I loved, loved, loved Absentminded Angel by Heather Rainier. It has become my new favorite story in Ms. Rainier’s Divine Creek Ranch series. While you can understand what is going on if this is your first time reading this series, it is best to read this story in chronological order. If for no other reason other than to understand just what a holy terror Presley Ann was.
Talk about a complete turnaround. Presley Ann was nasty. She was mean spirited, selfish and self-involved. That is until she got in the family way. When she had someone who would depend upon her, she made changes. Changes that required her to repent her ways. It was like twelve steps for mean girls and she stuck with it. She made friends, good friends. I loved that Ms. Rainier allowed Presley Ann a second chance. It didn’t happen all in this book, it was a culmination but it was visible, heartfelt and sincere so we were ready to forgive and forget by the time Presley Ann found men of her own.
And speaking of her men, I adored Kendry and Jared. As they were recent transplants to Divine they could only judge Presley Ann by the woman she is not who she was. They allowed Presley to see that she deserved happiness in spite of her past nastiness. I loved that they believed in her and allowed her the independence to see that relying on someone did not make her weak. Their willingness to support and uplift was wonderful to see. It wasn’t all smooth sailing either. With the return of Whit’s father, both men felt a bit insecure. They knew that Presley Ann felt guilt and a spark for Whit’s father and that left them unsure. They had to trust in what they had built with Presley Ann. I thought Ms. Rainier did a wonderful job of laying out their hopes, desires and concerns. It wasn’t one-sided in the least and I enjoyed the conflict. This story was a wonderful addition to this series and I think the best yet.

Oh how I wish they had a TEN star rating! I am ALWAYS amazed with Heather Rainier's work. She never ceases to pull off making every new Divine story better and more scrumptious than the last. With Absentminded Angel,we the readers, get a chance to see the REAL Presley Anne. The one underneath the spoiled rich girl we seen in previous books. I never hated or really disliked Presley Anne. I always knew she just needed a good dose of reality to set her to rights. And she definitely got that when she got pregnant with her son, Whit. Because of him, she transformed into a wonderful mother, a good person, and is no doubt one of my favorite female characters. Jared and Kendry were the BEST men for her. They loved her and Whit. They were both sexy, determined, dedicated and always supported Presley Anne. They never stopped showing her they cared about the woman she is now, not the girl she used to be. I was also quite taken with Whit's biological father. I loved the fact that he gets to be part of his son's life. I sincerely hope he and his brother (maybe if we are lucky) get a story of their own. I really think that would be neat! Absentminded Angel is one of the sweetest reads in the Divine collection and is now my NEW favorite book in the series. Keep up the fantastic work Mrs Rainier! Your books truly are DIVINE.

Another 5 star winner from Heather Rainier! How does she do it? How does Heather write 20 heart stopping winners and not 1 below 5 stars?
I love every single book. This series has to be my #1 favorite.
Poor Presley Ann has gone full circle from game playing, flirty- sometimes slutty- party girl to responsible, serious mom. What a huge change that I never saw coming while we have read about her wild, crazy life. She has mended bridges and set herself on the straight and narrow towards respectability so her son will be proud of her.
She never expects two men to see her as everything they ever wanted or to be pursued gently through her pregnancy. Kendry and Jared prove themselves to be as wonderful as she hoped.
I'm not giving any spoilers because this story deserves to be seen with new eyes. It's so sweet and perfect, you will wish you were Presley Ann!!
I can not wait for Violet's book and more about everyone in Divine!!

Heather Rainier is a wonderful writer. Her deep thought filled characters are so lovable and interesting. This is a long awaited tale of Presley Ann. Here she finds her loves, finally, and true happiness. The twists and turns are amazing, and it is a full bodied, fast paced story. Kendry, recipient of Patterson's heart, and his brother Jared have been smitten with her from the first time they met her. Some of her own family is very mean to her, The real father of her baby shows up, her sweet son, Whit, is kidnapped and saved, and there is so much more to this hot, sexy ménage and lovely romance.
We also get to see past characters to know how everyone is doing. This is a great town with heartwarming tales and true emotion from all the characters. It is a cross-over to Cara Covington's Lusty, TX series, "Love Under Two Outcasts". I love both of these authors. You can read these as stand alone, but they are so much more fulfilling as a set. Read one and see. ENJOY !!!

In the style I came to love some much, Ms. Rainier created another HEA for a woman I used to despise in previous books. Presley Ann came a long way and changed so much, this story is about second chances. I fell in love with Kendry in the previous book where he made an appearance with his brother, Jared, another lovable hunk. They fell in love and believed in Presley Ann which helped her believe that she could be happy after all, despite what her spiteful aunt and cousin were telling her. I wanted to bitch-slap those two. The twists in the story are unexpected, but made the story so much better!! Thank you Heather for another great read.

I'm glad we all gave Presley Ann a second chance, I really liked this story and how She has changed her ways but she still sees herself as a screwup, when she has her beautiful baby whit she thinks she can do everything on her own but a newborn is way way harder than she expected, so she accepts the help of Kendry and Jared with whit and starts to fall in love with them but feels that after her rocky past she doesn't deserve this wonderful men or a happily ever after. Cool surprises and I wish there really was a town filled with so many cool caring people.

Holy hotness

I have been a fan since the first book. If your looking for romance with two hotter than hell firefighters then this is your mind of book.
Heather Rainer is one of my favorite authors. Not because of the smoking hot sex thought that's good too. Lol
It's because she knows how to rope you in from the first sentence and keeps my interest through the whole book. This series is a long one and I imagine that it's hard to keep that going as a fan I look forward to every book.

I was looking forward to reading Presley Anne's story and it definitely didn't disappoint. It's rare to find a story of the "bad guy" turning good and in this case having karma happening and turning a new leaf. It's heartwarming how the ladies and men took her in and welcomed her despite of her wrong doings. There's still good in the world. I adore the men and how much care and love they have for Presley Anne. How they didn't care for her past and just looked at her. Much envy! Loving this entire series too much.

AWESOME!! Once again Heather Rainier has written a wonderful, heartfelt story. Presley Ann went from being a spoiled, self centered little girl to a wonderful, sexy woman, who falls head over heels in love with Kendry and Jared. This story is about second chances and don't we all deserve one. Heather pours her whole heart into her stories and it really shows. I am never disappointed with her stories!!

Presley Ann knows that she's getting her comeuppance being pregnant and alone, but at least she's finally made it up to all the ladies who are now her friends if only she could understand what Kendry and Jared are thinking wanting a hot mess like her....She still sees herself in a bad light and all they want to do is show her how they see her... I absolutely loved this story loved it!!! I'm so happy that Presley Ann finally got her story...time to get a little lusty....onto the next

Another amazing story

If you've followed the series, you've been able to follow her character from spoiled, rich girl to facing a life altering decision. Ms. Rainier takes on a journey watching a bratty spoiled girl become an amazing angel who learns who she is and what she is capable of. With the desire, anything is possible

Love Presley Ann.....never thought that would happen

Not everyone takes to heart a second chance. Presley Ann did. She is a great mom. Was broken hearted for the Strongs. Hopefully we will see them again. Love Kendry and Jared. So loving and sweet. They were amazing. Can't wait for the next installment.

Nice end to Presley Ann's story

If you've read the series from the beginning, Presley Ann was not a popular character. This story sees her grow up quickly and see herself in a new light. The men in her life are wonderful and even the father of her child turns out to be a nice guy that you feel bad for because he truly cared for her and want to be with her. Well worth reading.
