Falling for the GP Next Door is the first F/F romance I've read, although I've read 8 or 9 M/M romances which, curiously, are largely written by straight women, for straight women (of which I'm one). I liked it well enough but it's not the most exciting book I've ever read. Most of the story takes place inside the MCs' heads. There's one, fairly lengthy, open door sex scene.

Zara's mother was an alcoholic so Zara spent much of her youth at the home of her best friend Sabrina. She & Sabrina's older sister Tess developed a crush on each other, which went no further than a single kiss. In order to escape the oppressive burden of her parents' expectations of her, Tess left the Scottish Highlands for medical school in England at 17. This added to Zara's abandonment issues.

Sabrina & Zara's love lives had both been unhappy so they decided to become platonic life partners, each in turn planning to have a baby via IVF. However, when her daughter Helly was a baby, Sabrina died of a brain aneurysm. Her own life in tatters, Tess returns to her childhood home in order to build a relationship with her 3 year old niece...

I wish that Zara & Tess spent more time talking to each other rather than on their internal monologues. It would have saved them much heartache. Tess didn't appreciate Zara's fear of abandonment & Zara was apparently unaware of Tess's reasons for spending so little time in Scotland.

A couple of gripes: in chapter 5, Tess admires Zara's 'smooth, dark skin' but on the cover she has olive skin; & several times Tess's mouth 'crashes' against Zara's in a kiss: sounds painful!
