Not sure what I think of this - on the one hand an incredibly thought provoking text about the importance of free speech, tolerance and co-existence whilst on the other a perhaps sensationalist view on what may happen should these values be ignored and Britain descends into civil war at the end of the decade.
I sincerely hope we can find an off ramp to the division of today in order to protect tomorrow.
I hope most fervently that we can find an off ramp. This is the worst case but I’ve heard so many people voice these fears that are brought to life in this book. It is only fiction. May it remain so
Very well written mind-boggling book, making more sense than I wish to admit! The big question on everyone’s lips At the end of 2025, is why oh why is the government bringing in thousands of military aged men? WHY??????
The potential was there. But I have my VERY strong suspicions that this book is either completely written by AI or heavily AI edited. It essentially just reads like a ChatGPT answer. Even the description on Amazon looks AI generated.
It also should come with a MASSIVE disclaimer that it is a work of total and utter fantasy. I’m not denying the threats of radicalisation in the U.K. and sectarian violence if certain population trends continue, but essentially almost every aspect of this book detaches from an objective sense of reality and reads like a wet dream of Enoch Powell.
Again, I’m not claiming with absolute certainty that it is totally AI-generated as I can’t prove this as fact. But… just why? There is SO much material that could be incorporated in to a near future fiction about political/demographic upheaval in the U.K and no doubt such a book would be incredibly rewarding to write for somebody who is interested/concerned about such issues. So why get chat GPT to write it and then pass it off as human work?
I read this book in one sitting, driven on by a sort of horrified fascination. The oral history format gives it a harder punch than a conventional novel would have done. It paints a worst case scenario and does so in a way that is uncomfortably believable. Is this book a warning or politically motivated fear mongering? Personally I’m not sure either way. I fear that if something isn’t done and an off ramp found then we’re headed for at least serious social unrest. Probably not within the next three years but certainly the next ten. Let’s hope wiser heads prevail.
Interesting Point of View, with a potential to be real in some areas. Specially when you read about the history of the conflicts between Islam and Christianity.
Thought provoking and not a future to be discounted lets hope wiser heads prevail. To balance this though it is at times a little chromatic and to the right of where I feel comfortable
