After 25 years of marriage, Barbie Stopford thought she knew everything about her husband. Turns out, Eddie saved his biggest secret for after he died.
When a dusty legal document reveals he left her a hidden estate in Bakewell, England, Barbie does something that shocks everyone, including Shebooks two last-minute tickets and drags her reluctant daughter across the Atlantic.
Florence isn't thrilled—but after a summer she’d rather forget, a spontaneous trip to a storybook English village might be exactly what she needs.
The estate is grand. The locals claim it’s haunted. And the quiet groundskeeper seems to know more about Eddie’s past than Barbie ever did.
As the women uncover clues tucked between cozy garden paths and pints at the village pub, they begin to piece together a version of Eddie neither of them expected. And when Florence finds herself drawn to the groundskeeper’s son (who’s as kind as he is charming), it's a refreshing change from the life she's been pretending to live.
In this strange place, far from home, they both start to wonder if this detour was part of the healing all along.
Some inheritances come with strings attached. This one comes with buried secrets, uncomfortable truths, and the chance to finally stop running from their grief.
This is Book 5 in a brand-new, heartfelt, clean and wholesome series. Scroll up to begin reading today!
Aah!! I thought all 6 books were available, so imagine my surprise when this one ended and I went to download book 6 and got the message that it won’t be available until the 13th! Hey, at least I only have to wait one week.
This is a good little series. I say “little” because each book is less than 80 pages. I read all 5 in one afternoon. I checked and each book was published a week from the previous. This way of releasing books makes me think of the way “stories” were done around the 1950’s when radio shows were the big thing. These also remind me of 6-part/book series by Stephanie Bond, but Bond’s books are one month apart rather than one week.
I can’t wait to read the final, Book 6 to find out what in the world is going to happen next and how everything will come together and get wrapped up.
I was left feeling bad for Emory, angry at the “deceased” grandparents, and also happy for Emory and Florence’s possible future. My hope is that Barbie and Flo will remain in Bakewell and make their name symbolize good rather than the evil before them.
this whole series turned out to be pretty dumb. Unrealistic situations. Shallow characters. Timelines and events that don't line up. Things that don't make sense. Undeveloped storylines. Unanswered questions. I'm glad I didn't spend more than a couple days on the whole thing. And more tongue clicking, sometimes on the same page. What's with all the tongue clicking? An annoying mannerism for sure and everybody does it. The books aren't very well written and I'm glad I got through them, although the end wasn't very satisfying, still too many unanswered questions. I would suggest you don't waste your time on this silly series. Oh, and the house on the front cover bears no resemblance to the mansion described in the books. Just ugh.
A series means separate books that use possibly the same characters plus new ones, but in a different storyline. This grouping of books for what is actually one story told in segments where each segment spends the first half repeating the story.
This would have been much better as a novel with a consistent storyline within the one book… plus it would have made for a better book over all instead of the way this series of repetitive beginnings in separate “books” that aren’t complete books. I’m not interested in reading more from this author… because I feel a lot of time was wasted in the repetitive style of writing what I would not consider a true book and definitely not a series!
This review is for all the books in the series: Good mystery. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because I didn’t like that each book was only an hour or so read. Then I’d have to go and download the next book. Why didn’t they publish it as one complete 6 hour(ish) book since each one was literally an immediate continuation of the book before? No intro in books 2-6, just the beginning of the next chapter. Glad I have kindle unlimited and didn’t have to pay for each short book. These books are not stand alone and definitely have to be read in order.
The story is a good one. I liked it. Like many other reviewers, it is obnoxious to split this story up into 6 books that are only about 80 pages apiece. You just get going and then have to go get another book. Why not just put it into one or two books at the most? Can’t imagine the reason for this. And it’s not like you can just walk away after any of the books. That’s like putting a book down less than halfway through and walking away. I would have given it more stars had it not been for that nuisance.
This fifth installment in the series of novellas was a bit more action-packed and interesting. Barbie was endangered by a cut gas line, but met a handsome doctor in the emergency room. Florence and Barbie are complete idiots by going back to the house during a storm (typical movie fodder). The "shocker" cliff hanger wasn't a huge surprise, but interesting and hopefully will reveal motives in the last book.

Shocking revelations! Secrets partially revealed! So glad I stuck with this, although like other reviewers the could have been on long stand alone book or possibly 2 shorter ones. At least I got to read all 6 books at once, I doubt I would have had the patience to download them one at a time in intervals. One more book to go to wrap up this mystery!
It was just a bit better than a mediocre read, but what made me the maddest was having to buy 5 other books just to finish the story. It all could have fit into one book.
This has turned out to be a good story. It has kept me interested all the way through it. Book 6 is next and I think I will miss the characters. On to book 6
