Saddle Tramps Westerns #1

The Saddle Tramps: An Old West Western

Rate this book
From the bestselling author of the Gideon Johann Western Series, the Wild Horse Westerns Series, and the Hand Of Western Series, comes The Saddle Tramps!

After the War of the Rebellion ended, Shane Engel and Jody Baird headed out west, seeking adventure and escape from their pasts. They spent their days riding the trail, making just enough money along the way to keep food in their bellies, a beer in their hand, and some cash left over to visit the ladies. Their carefree lives are interrupted when they run afoul of a sheriff. When an Indian boy they’d befriended puts them in a precarious position, the trio make their escape on a journey that has them dodging the law, encountering notorious outlaws, and meeting a couple of sisters that are also on the run from both their past and a man determined to return them back to him at any cost. Shane and Jody find themselves on the adventure of a lifetime as they try to clear their names, capture outlaws, and help Hilda and Elke start new lives. Will they succeed in their endeavors or will they end up remembered as just a couple of saddle tramps that went astray?

Duane Boehm has written another western novel with enough humor, heartbreak, love, and outlaws to keep you turning the page.

Duane Boehm grew up on a farm outside of Petersburg, Illinois. All the time spent driving a tractor gave him plenty of opportunity to let his imagination run wild and not tear up too much equipment. The two passions he developed early in life were the love of playing guitar and reading books.

He eventually moved to a mini-farm outside of Murfreesboro, Tennessee with his wife and replaced planting corn with trees and raising dogs. For a number of years he worked as an IT consultant and continued with being a part-time musician and songwriter. He dabbled in writing short stories with the idea in the back of his mind that someday he would write a novel. One Christmas after watching "A Christmas Carol", he was inspired to begin his journey as a novelist.

☆☆☆☆☆

After roaming around for years without a care in the world other than where to find the next poker game to stock up on supplies and enough to stake their next game and to move to the next town and start all over again. Shane and Jody are living the life of their dreams, carefree and with no women trouble. They couldn't be happier. That's until they bump into a pair of the most charming, witty, and beautiful sisters they have ever stumbled upon.

Hilda and her younger sister Elke are on the run from a previous employer who has hired a pair of bounty hunters to bring them back a force them to continue to work for him with the plans of marrying one and forcing the other to run his business. The young ladies have had a rough life being under the thumbs of different men who pretty much believe their place is to be ruled as if they are slaves or indentured servants to do their bidding.

Shane and Jody come to the rescue saving the day as far as Hilda and Elke are concerned only to brought into one conflict after the next. They happily risk their lives with no expectations other than to help the sisters out to live the life they want without being under the thumb of someone else.

A really good read!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The descriptions and character development were quite nice.

The best part was that it was as wholesome as possible, what with the storyline as such.

I’m looking forward to other books by Mr. Boehm. I’m hoping for a sequel to The Saddle Tramps.

It took a long time but they made it!

Two women on a journey leaving horrible experiences behind. Two men on a journey just for adventure.
Trials and adversity following all four of them. Finally their paths cross and they connect. I wish I could have read more of their story in buying a ranch and starting their new journey.

Shane and Jody became a couple saddle tramps after the war, doing just enough honest work to continue their wanderings. Riding into town they ended up in jail for saving an Indian boy from a beating. They get mistaken for a couple of notorious outlaws and it looks like a hanging matter until the boy breaks them out. Hilda and Elka are two sisters who came west to find work. Finding none and out of money, they end up at Jack's Ranch, a brothel. No girls left Jack's without his permission, so they escaped, found a new town and got good jobs in a dance hall. Until they were kidnapped to be brought back to Jack. Wouldn't you know it, they ran into Jody and Shane on the trail and get rescued. Now the 5 of them are after the real outlaws so Jody and Shane can clear their names.

Two men, two women & one Indian Boy : Happy Ending !

Wow ! What a saga across the far west. Shane & Jody are saddle bums out to work their way across the west. Elke & Hilda are two sisters running from life on their dad’s farm. Both pairs travel separately and fall into life threatening circumstances to include gun battles, living on the streets, physical servitude, kidnapping and arrest as notorious bandits. Eventually, one pair accidentally saves the other. With pressures & threats from the girls former boss, there seems no way out. Then a surprising ending makes the journey worth while. Don’t miss this story.

Take a Chance

When you saddle tramp you take a chance on being able to survive; when you strike out on your own from a bad situation you take a chance on your survival; when you've been put down all your life and somebody finally sticks up for you you take a chance on surviving in a new world. Our five friends take a chance on each other and it does indeed lead to survival. Hard times can bring people close together and Mr. Boehm does that in a daring adventure. Really good read.

I enjoyed reading this book. I liked the bond of these lifetime friends, the quarrels they had and the way they resolved them. They were such good friends, they couldn't stay mad at each other for more than a few days, somewhat like siblings. The kidnapping of the outlaw , Kid, was a little to easy for such a famous outlaw which is why I gave 4 stars. I recommend this book for an enjoyable read.

All In A Day's Work

I absolutely loved this wonderful story! I'm not sure if it's the best thing I've read or something close! The characters are not the average Cowboys and the sisters are very interesting and quite intelligent! Love the fact that this group has been so good to the Indian boy and plan to help him with getting his own life figured out! Looking forward to reading book#2!!

Great Story

This is a relatively simple story emphasizing the characters. And a great character study it is. The overall storyline is evolves through the activities of the main characters leading to a common conclusion. As with all of Mr Boehm's novels, there is plenty of action, but it is the top quality dialogue that engages the reader!

story is okay but

The story is okay. Adventure some intrigue subtle romance but I hate abrupt endings. Could have gone and finished out the story instead the author leaves you sitting there with no place else to go. Not good

Born and raised in the west and can relate to the places in the book. I like a book that is entertaining and doesn't leave me depressed but ends with a smile and a happy ending. Nice to ride along with.

Surprise!

Fun reading and leaves a good feeling when you finish. Some some shoot'm up and a little dancing around. It really takes a turn around the 40% mark. You like western stories and the will give you a little change from Marshall Shorty.
