New York Times, USA Today, and #1 International bestselling author K. M. Moronova has enjoyed telling dreary stories as far as she can remember. She adores reading and writing dark-themed, romantic books with plot twists and emotional turns. Often, she is found drying flowers in her study or drinking tea while relaxing in her garden. She loves spending time with her partner, exploring the forest, and envisioning more devastating stories to tell.
Great concept, but the execution was completely off!
Briar is running from her ex after he tried to kill her, yet she’s distracted by every hot guy she sees in town, and they’re all a potential love interest. That’s completely normal. When she finally lands on Roman, there’s no pining, no tension, and no development. Just immediate spice that felt forced and awkward.
The plot was all over the place. Not even the side characters saved this for me since they weren’t that well developed. And don’t get me started on the fact the whole squad watched their first time!! I thought this was going to turn into a reverse harem for a second (and a little disappointed it didn’t).
Between the lack of a believable romance, and the weird pet name (Squirt, really?), I just couldn't get into this. I think this author’s writing style might just not be for me.
─ ✦ ──── ✎ᝰ.┊ pre-read: Lethal squad, hidden pasts, and a small town setting… really hoping for some high tension in this one!
⬫ ⬪ ⬫ Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc!
ARC read ✨ A bit different angle than usual Moronova’s style 😁 It was a bit strange cause naturally, I am comparing this book to DF duet and LMB but I like Bulletproof more than the DF duet. Please don’t come for me 😆
Thank you NetGalley and the SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books for the ARC of Bulletproof by K.M. Moronova, to be published on 26th of April 2026.
I want to start by saying that K.M. Moronova is my auto-buy author and I read all the books in the Dark Forces universe and unfortunately Bulletproof just didn’t hit the spot for me.
First 50% of the book was really difficult to get through, extremely cringe, rushed and full of plot holes. It would definitely benefit from some extra editing, a lot of repetition of certain words (“casing” & “crotch rocket” were just some that I remember). The second half picked up a bit and redeemed itself, therefore I bumped the final rating to 3⭐️ (and I’m thinking I’m being generous but there were some parts that I liked and I even shed a tear).
The FMC, Briar, was really irritating and her behaviour was really questionable, she came across as bratty and generally insufferable. By chapter 3 she was salivating and clenching her thighs over 6(!) guys. Considering she was almost killed by her ex and supposedly had trauma because of that she was very quick to trust every guy she met and blushing at every attention she has been given. Also she tried to play hard but ended up being a pushover with no moral spine.
Roman, the MMC, apparently has a very dark past that we only get glimpses of, but he is being a total jerk towards Briar for no reason. The nickname given was just another level of cringe. Also kept calling the FMC “whore” (or “whoreton”?!?!?) to push her away and I thought that was just a bit extreme and also juvenile. They both play this push and pull game and lie to each other but then get mad that the other person is keeping secrets 🙄
The spicy scenes, especially the first one were extremely cringe and the commentary during that scene made me roll my eyes so bad it hurt.
Some of the plot twists were good but some just didn’t add up because of the plot holes. Like whole dark forces squad spilling secrets about their operation to FMC shortly after meeting her but few days before they were trying to run her out of town? Also, I wish we got more insight into the Bulletproof soldier concept it had so much potential but we really got nothing 🙈 I was waiting for the ending to hit but I got nothing but disappointment 🥲
Overall, the book felt rushed and was full of plot holes, cringe dialogue and bad spicy scenes. It had potential but unfortunately it didn’t deliver and it’s my least favourite from the whole Dark Forces universe.
I’m not sure what is put into dark military books that make me consume them fast and hard. And this one was the same!!
Briar ….. To word this nicely, you are not going to really like/love her till the ending pretty much. She’s giggly, shy, but yet “knows” that things aren’t right but doesn’t listen to any instinct. Not all her choices are bad but from the start you’re shaking your head. Then you see why and you feel like you judged too soon. But her choice in Roman was a good one.
Roman is something. He’s the bad boy you know you can’t change and just say f it and go in legs first. I wasn’t a fan of the self mutilation but I get why he does it. Why keep the bad when you can make it good. And then when he fold for her!!! Loved that moment. I will take more of him. And what happens next… I want to know where they all go.
From authors insta: Enemies to lovers, Small town dark military romance, but he's the lieutenant on an undercover squad and literally tries to run her out of town... Bulletproof is a dark military romance standalone in the Dark Forces universe that will have Booktok absolutely feral.
Thank you NetGalley and Bloom for the ARC!!! I was invested in the story of Briar!! Roman is so morally black. The story follows Briar who has to move to Bane Falls by her uncle who passed away. She gets to the farm and has to go through everything. When she gets to the farm, someone is casing the place. She leaves and goes to the local diner where a biker crew comes in and starts some shit. Roman comes in and tries to get her to leave town. She is stubborn and doesn’t want to leave. So she stays and gets involved in a very dark part of the world. When we lost someone, I was so sad! I liked them! The twist towards the end, I wasn’t expecting that! I loved this story and cannot wait to add a physical copy on my shelf!!
This ARC pulled me in immediately with a fast, tension-filled opening that had me hooked from the first scene. The diner entrance was especially memorable, setting the tone with action and intrigue right away. From the start, I was completely obsessed with Roman, and Briar’s sarcastic, sharp personality added a lot of fun to the dynamic. The whole squad has great chemistry, and their interactions kept things lively. There’s honestly never a dull moment, and the bickering between Roman and Briar was especially entertaining.
That said, there were a few elements that didn’t fully work for me. Some of the spice scenes felt a bit over-the-top for my taste, which pulled me out of the story at times. I also struggled with the FMC. She came across as quite naive and often made questionable choices, and her attraction to multiple members of the squad made the central romance with Roman feel less convincing.
Pacing was another issue. The first 70% of the book felt slower than necessary, while the final 30% moved too quickly, making key moments feel rushed. Because of that, the ending, particularly in terms of the romance, felt somewhat unsatisfying and lacked the payoff I was hoping for.
Overall, this was an engaging and entertaining read with strong character dynamics and a gripping start, but uneven pacing and a less convincing romance held it back from being a standout for me.
Did I have fun for majority of it? Yes. Did I enjoy the fast pacing? Yes. Was there super cringe dialogue that made it difficult to get through? Also yes.
KM js my go-to for a darker, bully, military romance and I really love the Dark Forces universe. While this one has a lot of potential, it didn’t hit the mark for me like her other ones have.
I did like that Roman was a lowkey sucker for Briar and was battling with himself about *finally* caring for someone. This is a pretty common theme in a KM book. That being said, I feel like there was not a ton of build up between him and Briar which made it difficult to connect to their relationship.
And DON’T even get me started on her nickname. Squirt???? Bc he “can tell she’s a squirter”??? 🥴 and then the rest of the squad called her that knowing the meaning? No.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bloom, and KM for the e-ARC! Maybe the next one will be better 🫶🏼✨
K.M. Moronova is an auto-buy author for me, so I went in super excited and honestly, I was hooked from the start. The vibe is dark, intense, a little unhinged… and very addictive. I flew through it.
The setup?? So good. Small town, undercover squad, danger everywhere… secret missions and morally grey men on motorcycles—say less.
At its core, the story follows Briar, who’s on the run and ends up in this small town—only to get pulled into something much bigger than she expected, surrounded by secrets, danger, and people she’s not sure she can trust.
From the beginning, there’s this push and pull between Briar and Roman—attraction, tension, mistrust and it keeps things really engaging.
I did find myself wanting a bit more from the characters. Briar had a lot of potential and I liked her, but at times she felt a little naive and still figuring things out, which made it a bit harder to fully connect with her.
And Roman… he’s very much my type of MMC —cold, controlled, slightly unhinged but I just wish we got a little more depth from him. The moments where his walls start to crack were so good. I just wanted more of that.
They definitely have chemistry (and the tension), but I wanted a bit more emotionally.
One thing I really loved was the Icarus squad. Their dynamic, their loyalty, that found family vibe?? So good. Definitely one of my favorite parts.
The pacing is a bit slower in the beginning and then really picks up towards the end but once the Dark Forces plot really kicks in, I was completely locked in. The action, the twists, the chaos… that’s where the book truly shines.
Overall, I had a really good time reading this, and it kept me hooked the entire time.
I’m definitely still invested in this world and excited to see what comes next 🖤
Bulletproof releases April 28th—add it to your TBR!
Tropes: small town • fmc on the run • military experiments • bully romance • found family • secrets & twists
Thank you to K. M. Moronova and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.
This ARC is not a light read—it pulls you straight into a world filled with tension, emotional damage, and dangerously addictive chemistry.
The story leans heavily into a dark, emotionally intense dynamic, with characters that aren’t easy to love—but that’s exactly what makes them so compelling. The male lead gives strong broken and dangerous energy, while the female lead feels caught between protecting herself and giving in to something she knows might destroy her.
💔 What stands out: • The chemistry is explosive, not soft or sweet • Strong psychological tension throughout • Themes of trust, survival, and emotional trauma are central
🔥 Vibe check: If you enjoy: • Dark romance • Morally grey characters • Relationships that feel wrong but irresistible
…this one will hook you fast.
⚠️ Heads up: This isn’t for everyone—it likely includes heavy themes and potential triggers, so go in prepared.
I READ THIS IN 1 DAY! Finished at midnight. I could not stop, once I started!!
1. MANY HOT MMCs. This may be my most favorite squad yet!! 2. The pacing was 🔥🔥 it kept my attention the entire time and I did NOT want to put it down
3. A little bit of a bully romance moment. Typical I’m bad for her so I’m going to be cruel so she leaves me alone. Newsflash. THAT DOESNT WORK _____________________
I forget time. I forget that we are wrong for each other. I don’t fucking care. _____________________
I devoured this book in 24 hours. If you loved the other Dark Forces books, you will enjoy Bulletproof just as much. It’s dark, spicy and such a fun read.
Just like all of KM Moronova’s books, Bulletproof did not disappoint. It sucked me in on the first page and had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. A big thing I love about her books, is that they’re never predictable. There’s always a huge twist that has me gasping. This book was phenomenal and exactly what I expected from KM
ARC Reader. The plot twist carried the whole book honestly. The chemistry between mmc and mfc was none existent, only lust. Liked the mfc story and her background, mmc was just hot bad boy, nothing special apart his body modifications by dark force. I hope the author continues the book ending in another book, but maybe with different story.
Arc Review Another great story from Moronova, but this definitely felt different than the other 3 in the series…
FMC Briar, on the run/in hiding from her ex who left her for dead, ends up on a farm left to her by her uncle… she quickly runs in to the “bad boys” of the town and the gets sucked into the chaos of an underground turf war essentially. MMC Roman, the leader of DF Squad Icarus, is sent into this town to observe & report on the black market underground… he fights his feelings (as they always do) for Briar while trying to use her and then dispose of her as ordered!
Timeline note: This story takes place after Leave me behind as Gallows gets referenced towards the end!
The first 50% of this story felt less like a dark military romance and more like a standard Bully romance to me cause of course Roman has to be an asshole to her so he doesn’t get attached, and she is just a regular girl running from a shit past… But the second half definitely kicked us back into the realm of dark military romance we are looking for with this series! The lies, the uncovered secret projects, the violent conflicts…
Spoilers Below: I think this story felt so different from the other 3 because Briar isn’t a bad ass who is part of a DF squad, but rather just a girl who seems to have shit luck in life… until you learn that she is indeed a part of the DF program but in the Jason Bourne kind of way where they wipe her and give her false memories! (A fucking twist I definitely should have seen coming & I’m mad I didn’t!) so you have a POV that isn’t reliable cause even she doesn’t know it, so you are lulled into the lies with her.
🌶️🌶️🌶️/5 Hate fucking, sweet fucking, dance floor fucking… a fun time indeed!
Thank you to Netgalley & KM Moronova for allowing me to get an ARC!

I absolutely love KMM’s work, and Bulletproof was no exception. She has such a talent for pulling you in and keeping you there, and this one felt like a refreshing shift in the best way. The setting stood out immediately, it felt different, a little more unique, and added so much to the overall atmosphere of the story.
This is easily my favourite squad she’s written. The banter, the loyalty, the chaos, I loved all of it. They had that ride-or-die energy that makes you wish you could stay in their world a little longer, and honestly I’d read ten more books just for them. And I won’t lie… there was a moment where I thought we might be heading into reverse harem territory, and I was not mad about it 👀
Briar did take me a little while to warm up to. She annoyed me at the beginning, but as her layers were peeled back, I started to understand her more and found myself really sympathising with her by the end. I actually ended up appreciating her growth a lot.
As for the romance, I did enjoy it, but it wasn’t my favourite couple overall. That being said... Roman. Holy moly. That man had me in an absolute chokehold from start to finish. And honestly, nobody writes broken men quite like KMM does, she has a way of making them feel so raw, complex, and impossible not to love.
Overall, this was such an addictive, emotional read for me. KMM just gets it every time, and I’ll always be seated for whatever she writes next. Pray for me that I survive the wait until her next book.
The twist and turns! Another installment of the Dark Forces craziness!! It doesn’t surprise me that this book is wild! She writes nothing but the crazy, and I’m here for it! I feel like I’m an insane person with sticky notes and string connecting all the connections together. I love a good series not series that’s interconnected but doesn’t rely on the other books.
I do think there are ways that she could improve her stories and writing. Regardless, if she did these books would be INCREDIBLE!!!!!
No matter what, I’m still going to read anything she writes!!!!
Thank you NetGalley and K.M Moronova for this ARC. When I received it, I actually screamed. Anyways, with that being said, all of what is said is my opinion and my opinion only. K.M Moronova has done it again folks!!!! I absolutely DEVOURED this book. I loved being able to fall back into the Dark Forces universe. I got super attached to the characters, as I tend to do with her books. I even enjoyed the secondary characters of this book. This book was fast paced and really enjoyable. I highly recommend it!
I liked it, & it kept me intrigued. But just something about it left me wanting more. There was a lot of involvement with side characters that I just couldn’t connect with enough to be able to decipher who was who.
The twist was a little lack luster. I just felt like it started to lose its potential towards the end when it should have been heating up.
So this turned out to be my favourite K.M. Moronova book so far I kept thinking I know where this story is heading and every time I was wrong in the best way.
I dropped my current reads to read this ARC since I have been anticipating this book and it was an easy 5 stars! This squad was my favorite of all the military set books of hers, kept my attention, and that last 20%?! My heart was racing!! Aside from the action, the emotional growth of the MMC was *yesssss*!
I will certainly be buying a trophy of this book for the shelf!
If there’s anything I’ve learned from reading the Dark Forces books, it’s to be prepared for the emotional rollercoaster/trauma you will read in the last 50-75 pages 🥲🙃
i’d like to start with saying that i’m a huge fan of leave me behind and the overall dark forces universe. military romance is one of my guilty pleasures especially the ones that have a spicy twist to them.
unfortunately this book does not live up to my expectations on romance and smut. what i loved the most about leave me behind, even in the dark forces duo, was completely missing in bulletproof.
let’s start with the female protagonist. until the very end of the book i still couldn’t tell who this person was or was trying to be. her personality consisted of “i have trauma” and “i don’t belong”. she didn’t really care about anything. specifically when interacting with people - or should i say men, she seemed to be interested in all of them equally, even including the main male protagonist - which really rubbed me the wrong way.
briar meeting roman felt somewhat dull. she had already set her eyes on multiple other men just a few minutes before that. and even after the encounter with him she still tried to get on with others. (mild spoiler) before anything between those two started she made out with his friend right in front of him. i’m not gonna lie, that felt very anticlimactic to me.
what was the point of that ? i believe the thought was to awaken roman’s jealousy in the plot but to me it just made briar extremely malleable and empty. as if she had no opinion, no preference, as if she would just end up with that guy who conquered her first. and all of that made the romance between roman and briar not special to me.
so let’s continue with that, the romance. the interactions were dull, the connection wasn’t there for me to see nor feel. so did they manage to establish a bond ? - sadly no. the sadness started to really sink in when the smut kicked in and i just wasn’t excited about it. there was no yearning, no build-up. it suddenly just happened, it felt out of place and went in a direction that had not even been slightly hinted at beforehand.. “Eyes on me, baby. The boys can watch, can’t they?”
them calling her squirt because “You’re a squirter” made me cringe more than just once since they did proceed calling her that for the rest of the book, even during supposedly serious scenes which ended up ruining the immersion for me. it felt like they were all constantly making fun of her and she didn’t even notice due to her lack of intelligence.
well that intelligence i’m really questioning strongly here. during the story she keeps jumping from one guy to another making it actually quite unpredictable whose arms she would jump into next, not because it’s some grand scheme - no, it’s because there’s genuinely no reason at all for it. it’s like she does not care and doesn’t understand anything. always changing her mind who to trust next. i have never felt that disconnected to a protagonist as with briar before.
honestly i don’t even know what to say about roman. he was just there, he existed. he didn’t behave like a lieutenant in the slightest. his trauma was barely glossed over. he stayed quite 2D in my eyes, fitting with the rest of the cast of characters. his decisions and distrust were hard to connect with. especially him changing his mind about briar multiple times during the plot. nothing really happened to awaken his trust nor ruin it at some point. it felt completely foreign to me. the only nice scene between them i can think of is them talking about rewriting one’s story. i did think that was a somewhat powerful message (ignoring the actual activity of that event).
the story did pick up from the middle of the book at least but it never really peaked for me and didn’t make much sense until the end. a lot of stuff was skimmed over that could and should have been way more dramatic and detailed, for example her past trauma was covered in a mere 3 pages, lacking all emotional depth.
the reason for the mission was underwhelming and felt lazy. i was however very happy to see some nice and not so nice characters from former books. huge fan of tying these dark forces books together that way, even tho the development of some characters felt out of place to me, making a surprising 180.
sad to say, a lot of this felt out of place, awkward and unfinished. breaks my heart to say this but i was let down by this book.
____
@kmm i know you can write absolutely heart-shattering stories and i will keep buying and reading them. my most hopeful dream is reading more from my favourite character reed jenkins. love xx
K.M. Moronova has a knack for creating worlds where the line between protector and predator is razor-thin, and Bulletproof is a high-octane testament to that skill. As a solid entry that rolls into the expansive Dark Forces world, this story delivers exactly what fans have come to expect: a fast-paced and gritty dark romance. It was a quick read that kept me turning the pages late into the night, though it left me with some interesting thoughts on how it stacks up against the other books in this universe.
The story takes us to the small, shadowed town of Bane Falls, Montana. We follow Briar Thornton, a woman who has spent months trying to outrun a traumatic past, only to find herself drawn back to settle her late uncle’s estate. What should have been a somber, routine task quickly spirals into a nightmare when she crosses paths with Roman Syxx. Roman isn't your typical hero; he is a weapon forged by the elite special ops world of the Dark Forces. As the lieutenant of the covert Icarus Squad, he is in town with a cold, precise mission: infiltrate and eliminate. However, the moment Briar enters his orbit, the control he has spent years perfecting begins to fracture.
Briar’s character arc is one of reclaiming agency. She begins the novel in a state of flight, defined by the man who tried to kill her and the secrets she’s carrying. Throughout the book, we see her transition from a survivor who is hiding to a woman who is willing to stand her ground, even when faced with a man as dangerous as Roman. Her journey isn't just about escaping a physical threat; it’s about navigating the internal trauma that has kept her looking over her shoulder. Seeing her burn through her own defenses to find a sense of power alongside Roman—rather than just being protected by him—makes her a compelling lead.
Roman’s arc, conversely, is a slow deconstruction of a "bulletproof" exterior. He is introduced as a man who is more machine than human, programmed for destruction and devoid of personal attachments. His evolution is centered on the loss of that icy control. Briar represents the one variable he didn’t account for, and watching him grapple with the "glitch" she causes in his programming is fascinating. He has to learn that being a protector requires a level of vulnerability that his training taught him was a lethal weakness. By the end, he has to choose between the mission he was built for and the woman who has made him feel human again.
The chemistry between Roman and Briar is explosive. As is standard for Moronova’s books, there is plenty of spice that feels earned through their shared intensity and mutual understanding of trauma. The action and danger are relentless, moving from the quiet tension of Bane Falls to the high-stakes tactical maneuvers of the Icarus Squad. The pacing is excellent, ensuring there’s never a dull moment as the hidden connections between Briar’s past and Roman’s current mission are slowly exposed.
While I thoroughly enjoyed this installment and found it to be a solid addition to the Dark Forces world, I found myself reflecting on the previous books in this series. This was a strong, well-executed story, but I think I enjoyed some of the other books in this world just a bit more.
Overall, Bulletproof is a must-read for fans of military dark romance and those already invested in the Dark Forces universe. It offers a blend of suspense and passion that proves once again why Moronova is a staple in the genre. If you’re looking for a quick, intense read that explores the beauty found within a body count, this is definitely one to add to your shelf.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the copy in exchange for an honest review.
It's not a secret that I'm a massive fan of the Dark Forces series by KM. I've read the three books prior to Bulletproof multiple times, so naturally this title was my most anticipated read of the year! I'm beyond grateful to have been one of the lucky readers who got the instant read for the e-arc.
But as big of a fan I am, I'm not here to water down my honest opinion, so I will start by saying that unfortunately Bulletproof is by far the weakest book in the series. I did enjoy it and it was hard to put down, KM has a knack to keep you hooked. She did a fantastic job of extending the Dark Forces world once again by giving us a different setting: an undercover squad out in the real world in a small town.
The concept is great and it works. Despite this being a standalone, there are more than enough nods to the previous books to make a die hard like me gasp and giggle like mad. But my issue with the book is that the characters felt underdeveloped and we still barely know them at the end.
Roman was marketed as a brutal MMC, one who is even worse and scarier than Bradshaw and Cameron. I was genuinely wary about him, but very quickly found that Roman is just a mean mouthed guy, and there is nothing really scary about him. KM does make sure you understand his behavior towards Brair, the FMC.
Maybe my expectations were high, but I was very underwhelmed with Roman. At the end of the book I still felt very disconnected from him, barely knowing anything about him or his past or the things he did to end up in the DF. I did like him and his red flag behavior, but I feel his character could and should have been more fleshed out, because we know KM can be a master at that when we look at the former DF books.
I know Leave Me Behind and obviously the duet had more pages and more time to explore the characters, but that is my next issue. The ending felt very rushed and reveals spilled out faster than you could blink. That wasn't all bad, as one big reveal and a plot twist at the end actually saved this book for me, but it has me coming back to exploring characters: I would gladly take out all the smut in this book (that sometimes felt forced) and replace it with character development, or just simply give the story more time to develop.
Where Roman felt, dare I say, a little forgettable, I do have to give props for Briar being a memorable FMC in this universe. It was a pleasant surprise to find out what we did about her, and she held her own during all the chaos and madness. The downside of her character however is that from the get go she is interested in basically every male character that gives her a bit of attention. It's also why I didn't feel much for her and Roman as a couple, there really wasn't much chemistry between them.
To top it off, the book is supposed to be a standalone yet Bulletproof has the biggest open ending I've seen in the DF series, which left me rather confused too.
Conclusion: I did enjoy it and couldn't put it down, the book is fast paced and it has some really good moments and I especially loved the motorcycle action near the end. It all fits in with the universe KM has created and it even shows more of the gruesome stuff that goes on there. But it just lacked depth and feeling, while we know KM can absolutely tear our hearts out with her characters, and the ending left me with more questions than I had when I started the book.
I rate this book 3.5 stars. It's still a must read if you love the Dark Forces universe.

If KM Moronova writes it.. I’m reading it immediately. And yet again she’s coming in, stealing my very heart and soul out of my body via words on a page. Whattttttttttttt do you put in your books?! The tears of your beloved readers? Ugh, I love it. Take my soul if it means we continue to get books like this.
Briar, or FMC, comes into the small town of Bane Falls after the passing of her only relative left alive. Uncle Arthur leaves all he owns to Briar and she hopes that she can sell the property rather quickly and leave the country before her murderous ex boyfriend finds her alive. But when she gets to the house she finds that someone is already there at the run down house. Fleeing the scene in an attempt to get service to call the cops (because that’s what we should do in horror movies .. one point for Briars critical thinking) she arrives at the only open diner in town in the middle of the night. In comes the Icarus squad, put in Bane Falls to find and infiltrate an underground operation. Leader of the squad? Roman Syxx, the cut throat Lieutenant has only one thing on his mind. Finishing this mission and getting the hell out of the Dark Forces. His squadron, they are his closest friends so when he sees them flirting with the new girl in town who hasn’t been cleared.. you can imagine how.. not happy he is to find her laughing it up with them. In an attempt to scare her out of town, he finds that she, like him is extremely stubborn and won’t give in to his threats. Though it’s not without trying, he is absolutely RUTHLESS. He is mean, he does notttt give a single F. Follows is a crazy, WILD ride. There’s a bit of mystery, memory loss, twists and turns. The ending literally had my jaw dropped. The spice is SPIIIIIICINNNNN in this one. There’s a scene that will probably live in my head rent freee for the rest of my days.
I actually really enjoyed Briar! She’s just your run of the mill city girl. She’s not like Nell or Em, she’s not in the dark forces, she’s not a soldier, she didn’t compete in the Under Trials, she’s not a cold hard k!ller.. But she still has that never back down, never give up energy that the other two girls had. She didn’t let the darkness swallow her up. Roman.. is everything to me. Those dark forces men are walking red flags (okay maybe not Cam.. 🫣) but I’ll eat it up every single time. I loved and I mean loved the whole Icarus squad. The side characters give a bit of comedic relief to the insanity. There are a couple little cameos of our favorites are in there. (I’d be lying if I said I don’t shed a tear every time the other characters are brought up. My lovesssss. 🥲) This is a BULLLLLLLLYYY romance. Like all the way, couldn’t get more bully if you tried. Roman is ruthless in what he says and how he acts. Briar, bless her heart, somehow managed to see through that Bulletproof exterior and breaks through it. But, read the triggers.. heed the trigger. They are there for a reason lol. Highly recommend reading anything KM Moronova writes if you like having your heart ripped into shreds and then force fed back to you. (I mean that with all of my love.) Thankful for the HEAs around here. 🖤
Thank you to Bloom via NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review! ✨
