For the lovers, for the adventurous, for the curious, for the bakers. Especially for the bakers. Birds do it, bees do it. And guess what—cookies do it, too. In fact, never have a pair of gingerbread cookies looked so pleased. Yes, the Kama Sutra meets the Joy of Cooking. Featuring an unabashed gingerbread couple, who are photographed in unflinching full color, the Cookie Sutra is a recipe for pleasure. There is The First Posture, where two are yoked as one (yet the calorie count remains unchanged). The Pair of Tongs, allowing the woman to be open, free, sweet and crunchy. Pounding the Spot, requiring the suppleness of freshly rolled dough. There is Scissors, Autumn Dog, Tripod, The Wheelbarrow, The Snake Trap. And, for the advanced and adventurous, The Suspended Congress—great care must be taken lest the cookies crumble. A great gift for a bride or groom, for your valentine, or for a home baker with a sense of adventure.
My expectation for this book was that it would be a comedic take on the Kama Sutra - more punny than anything. Turns out, there are a few jokes but it’s mostly gingerbread cookies in indelicate poses. 🤨 It does end with a recipe for gingerbread.
Quite funny. I suppose to read it with a partner improves the experience, in fact, I bought it with that purpose. That's life. Things sometimes make it change.
I went into The Cookie Sutra with exactly one expectation: to be entertained. I bought this just because it made me laugh--and it absolutely delivered. This book is a clever, lighthearted parody that doesn't take itself seriously for a second, which is exactly why it works so well.
At its core, it's a humourous take on an ancient book, complete with little gingerbread people showing you how to spice up your sex life. The illustrations are charmingly ridiculous, and the tongue-in-cheek commentary strikes a great balance between cheeky and clever without ever tipping into uncomfortable territory. It's playful rather than explicit, making it perfect as a novelty read or a conversation-starter gift.
What really earns the five stars from me is how committed the book is to its bit. It knows what it is, leans into it fully, and never overstays its welcome. You're not reading this for deep insight--you're reading it to laugh, to smile, and maybe to appreciate how creative humor can be when it's done well.
Short, silly, and surprisingly memorable, The Cookie Sutra is exactly the kind of book that does one thing--and does it perfectly.
A short 75-paged book. Not sure why it’s entertaining. The positions are just pretty much all you can think of. Maybe it’d be more fun to read a physical copy ;P Gingerbread man looks cute though
[edit -> change from 2-star to 3] Bump it up to another star coz I gifted this book to my partner and I would say that it helped them read lol. The physical book does feel more premium than the digital one.
Given my sabbatical from reading in 2013, I needed something to ease my way back into it so this is what I read. Lol. It was hilarious - thanks Chia-Yu!
