Shifter Lords #3

Power Shift

Rate this book
Snark. Sass. Sabotage.

Evie Quinn is tired.
Of magical politics. Of cursed bouquets.
Of hot Shifter Lords who kiss her like a promise and then send her potential love interest to another state.

All she wants is to run her flower shop in peace, maybe master the whole “accidentally-a-Chimera” thing, and avoid becoming a pawn in the games of gods and Lords.

But when has Evie ever gotten what she wanted?

When Finn arrives with a warning about a new threat, and her mother starts sniffing around for a lost possession she thinks Evie has stolen from her, the Floromancer feels the walls closing in on her.

Add in some unfortunate magical misfires, Caelan's insistence on a quickie wedding she never agreed to, and the presence of a god too close to figuring out exactly what she is, and Evie has her hands full with no solutions in sight.

When secrets unravel and ancient enemies rise, Evie will have to play nice to survive ... or become the storm they never saw coming.

Power Shift was definitely a shift for this series. In my last review I mentioned how there was no word about Poe and baby Phoenix in book 2 but they made big appearances in book 3. Evie's mom, Cliona is still after her but not for the reason we have been led to believe. Evie and crew make a discovery that has yet another god involved, Tess's powers are growing significantly and the relationship between Caelan and Evie.. well let's just go back to the first sentence and the title and say it beautifully shifts!

I really love the friend group in this series. Ash, Tess and Moira are so caring for Evie and mindful of her feelings but I appreciate that they knew when it was time to make her listen to the hard truths about her life. They really helped her to grow and trust not only herself but other people a little bit more, especially Caelan. Tess plays an even more prominent role in this story and she reminds me of Temperance Brennan for Bones. As a banshee, she often doesn't understand the emotions or the narrative of her friends so she blurts out awkward but useful information a lot of the time. I found myself laughing out loud at some of the conversations with her involved.

I can't finish this review without shouting out Caelan. Another fictional man I absolutely adore. The last like 30% was equal parts swoony and explosive but my man is 1000% devoted to Evie and really proved in this story that he has her back no matter what. I was truly cheering by the end because they get real spicy (finally!) and was worth the wait.

This book ends on a sort of HFN but I'm definitely excited for the next book to come out and I can't wait to see what happens next!

Whelp, when I didn’t think a series could get any better, this one proved me wrong. I am just so in love with Evie and Caelan, I throw myself in a book with them, and I don’t come up for air until I’ve finished, acting like an addict wanting so much more. Anyway, this latest book in the series, starts off with a bang, and it finishes with an even bigger bang. There are many twists and turns, and unexpected scenes, that I had to find out what was coming next since so much was so very unexpected. I am really vague, but so much happens, I don’t want to spoil anything. I loved this latest installment, and I can’t wait for the next. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

This was SO close to being four stars! Like, really really close! Until the very ending, I was really digging this book, thought we got a lot of character and relationship development. The world-building is very interesting but definitely incomplete.

The ending, for me, was just a bit too cringey and it kind of killed things for me, unfortunately! That weird scene after Evie and Caelan fuck and then just return (naked, I might add) to her friends, her DAD, and like his entire pack… and her friends, like, get in line and each say a clever one-liner before they go off into a sex cave for a week… I don’t know, to me it was just super awkward, not to mention kind of out of character for Evie. I honestly didn’t love it.

I am definitely giving the next book a chance, however, as I am still optimistic that with a bit more relationship development I will enjoy them as a couple.

So many surprises in the 3rd book . Evil’s friends help her and the wolf lord surprises her. So much happens in this one story it was a powerhouse of shock, adventure and love.

The proofreading has got to improve. It got worse since the last book.

"Don't be jealous, she love love you more than me!" Should be, "Don't be jealous she loves me more than you!"

I don't know why this is a thing, but phrases keep getting switched and mixed up. There's also an issue with quotations and sentence structures.

Also, not only half but full goddess... How does the goddess 1. Not know she's a goddess? Cause wouldn't you feel that? And 2. Why the Chimera magic take?

Has been a good entertaining series. Getting a feeling of sameness so I think this is a logical place to end reading the series to finish on a good note.

Oh, Evie's tired? Bitch, I'm tired.

As fun as these books are to rip apart and mock with my besties, I feel this will be my last review for these books.

The best part of these books is always the found family stuff with Evie and her friends/employees, but given that half the time they were fawning over Caelen, I dreaded every time they were on-page. Which makes me sad, because I love found family.

I had a lot to say about Evie, but most of it I've already mentioned in previous reviews. Credit to my girlfriend for this one (hi babe), but they succinctly put my rambling about Evie into one sentence: her powers/backstory are playground rules worldbuilding. This is the type of shit you'd hear Jessica and Meghan fight about during their epic faerie mermaid wars during recess. Evie is actually an all-powerful full goddess and princess of the faeries, and has super awesome cool healing powers that can bring people back from the brink of death, and can also shapeshift into anything, and ALSO unlocked her full chimera form, and apparently, in the next book, can travel to different worlds?? It's getting ridiculous. Not to mention her backstory, where just so much shit happens. I need authors to learn that piling powers and huge events onto your characters doesn't make for a complex personality. It's just a backstory. It's the same thing with all these story events: it's just plot happening, and when you pile on too many plot elements, a lot get left behind or forgotten. Yeah, it's cool that Evie has a phoenix now, but like, that plot point was literally dropped into her lap in book 1, and then didn't come back until this book, and now serves little purpose to the story. How about you actually introduce plot elements when they're needed, Babin?

Before I get into Caelen's section, I'd like to apologize for a comment I made earlier. In my review of Shift Of Heart, I said that Caelen would probably go to Epstein Island, but that was wrong. Caelen would be at Diddy Parties. That motherfucker knows about the baby oil.

In all seriousness, this book was just the cherry on top of the gaslight and rape apologia sundae. Caelen is still his creepy self for about 75-80% of the book. Evie rebuffs him over and over again, keeps trying ot put space between them, but Caelen constantly steamrolls over what she wants. Oh, he respects her distance once at the end and that's enough to show he's changed? Of course! That must mean he is entitled to her body and love. Does he ever get real, tangible consequences for it? No! Evie's pranks don't count since they barely do anything, and being rebuffed by her doesn't matter because we know she gives in anyway. The three books I read tell the tale of a creepy, boundary-stomping man who is so persistent with a woman, over and over and over again, until he is eventually rewarded for his efforts. We have an R word for that, Sheryl Babin, but it's not romance, and you're not gonna like it.

Power Shift amps up the gaslighting to an insane degree. I don't know if Babin thinks that her readers lack brain cells or if pumping out all these books months apart had her mix things up, but since I read these three books in pretty quick succession, they're fresh in my mind. This book claims he's not destructive without a cause...but this man destroyed Evie's shop because she retaliated due to HIS ACTIONS, AND he punches holes in the wall at his own home when he doesn't get his way. People constantly say that he isn't that bad, but I've got 3 books to prove otherwise. And the fact that all of the past abuse Evie took is swept under the rug because of some reason is a very, very worrying message. Hell, Caelen doesn't even mention anything he likes about Evie's personality until THIS BOOK. He literally has to be told by another grown ass man that maybe if he respected Evie and was nice to her, she'd like him. A grown man had to be told this. Kindergarten shit.

A while back, my girlfriend told me that we should send all straight women to re-education camps. At first, I thought their methods were way too extreme. After reading this book, I fear they may have a point. I'm sorry for doubting you, darling. I love you, and you are always correct.

These books are not the cause of misogyny, but they're certainly a product of the patriarchy. Sheryl isn't the first or last woman author to write horrible shit disguised as romance and be swept under the rug because all her readers see is a hot werewolf daddy. It still deserves its criticism and ire. Women deserve better in fiction.

excellent work, exciting, engaging and very entertaining

Rating: 4.5⭐️

The Shifter Lords series by S.E. Babin just keeps getting better with each new book she releases. In the perfectly named Power Shift, multiple characters come to new heights of development and impact in the overall series arc.

Some have huge moments of personal magical growth and character progression. Others have revelatory scenes that shake up the backgrounds and future of main characters here. And others simply get their long awaited comeuppance.

It’s all done through a narrative that is written with humor, dramatic scenes and wonderful threads of mystery and mythology.

I started it and didn’t stop until I finished it, so invested in the characters and events as they rapidly unfolded. Suspense, magical creatures, endearing poisonous fauna and a found family of supernatural beings that I just adore.

This is a series that I highly recommend and found absolutely amazing. A winner!

This is the third season of the Evie show. This book is like a roller coaster of emotions. We have some great character development & relationship building across the board. Tess has some major growth, in her powers & her relationships with Ash and the crew. The group as a whole grows stronger together to overcome their next gardening obstacle. The chimera problem is an ever changing beast. We get to meet Hanna (short for Hannible), the newest lovable carnivorous plant. We learn more about Evie’s heritage, and we may even have a new relationship blooming between a couple of the characters. I loved spending time with Evie & the gang in this book. I wish I could say more, but I don’t want to give you spoilers! It’s such a great read, that you could finish it in a day or two. Give it a shot, Evie and the fam will grow on you! I can't wait to read the next one!.

Power Shift is the third book in the Shifter Lords series and it was just awesome! All Evie wants is to live a quiet Floromancer's life running her floral shop with three closest friends. Unfortunately, she's attracted too much attention of the Shifter Lords, Caelan in particular, the Chimera, her mother, and a Fae king. Soon as obvious that she's going to have to step up and make a choice.

I really like Evie, and she really shines in this book! I also love Caelan's persistence, and their contract negotiations always make me smile. This is a wonderful story of found family, finding yourself, and stepping into the ruoes you were always meant to be. I'm really loving this series and it looks like the author has several more books planned, so I am thrilled! I was really happy with where Evie is at the end of the book and blessed chapter ends with an exciting hook for the next book in the series. I cannot wait to see what happens next!

Epic!!

Evie is my hero and I totally wanna be her when I grow up. Ok yes I know she’s a fictional character and technically for the record I am grown up but whatever details. Seriously though I love the one liners that are both threats and yet hysterically funny at the same time. Yes there’s still plenty of action and tension and complicated romantic undertones that have been going on since book one. Lots of twists and a doozy of a surprise at the end. One hundred percent my favorite thing about these books is the dialogue and the sarcastic humor. It is slightly off center and not at all politically correct for the setting and I am here for it! This book was just fun to read.

Book three of this incredible series and we hit the ground running. This is one of those series that gets better and better with each passing book ad you find your self totally lost back into this amazing world. Our incredible characters have been through so much and their growth is remarkable and we do get to know some of them a little better. Evie is such a great character and she is really starting to come into her own but as some decisions to make. It’s a fantastic read, exciting, enthralling, it’s a wonderful blend of mystery, mythology, drama and suspense and I thoroughly enjoyed this from start to finish.

Power Shift (Shifter Lords Book 3)

I love the development of the characters of people in the Shifter Lords series, to date. Power Shift Book3 brings extra goodness & surprises. The character development is deeper than the outside descriptions that 1st meet the readers. It goes beyond vampire, chimera, wolf, goddess, banshee, witch & others & gives nothing away when an extra & deeper layer is about to greet the reader. Power shifts indeed! Things have changed physically and spiritually. I cannot wait to get to book 8, in anticipation that books 4 through 8 will take my breath away!

wowwwww

Holy crap on a cracker. I don’t even know where to start after the last few chapters of this book. So many surprises so many bombshells dropped. I am still a little bit in awe. EV is about to have another big fight on her hands after the occurrences. I’m not gonna lie, I was really excited to see the relationship changes between her and our lovely handsome shifter, but I have a feeling this is now gonna get more complicated because of it. I am loving the growth that Evie is showing as a character as well as a powerhouse that she really didn’t even understand and maybe still doesn’t. I am completely invested in a series and truly obsessed.

I admire the idea and the fact that it felt fresh from the books with similar themes. I have to say though that I started to feel tired towards the end. I guess you cannot be innovative all the time and you have to follow some common rules in order to move the story along. In the case, Evie had to shift into the chimera form and to mate with Caelan. Although to be fae king's daughter wasn't necessary... I fear that the series will become rather bland with these revelations and I am going to stop now. I might revisit later...

good

I love these books and the characters in them. I really like the fact that Evie doesn’t let the shifter Lord push her around even though he seems to try. I love the way that she gets back at the shifter Lord for his stupidity.Evie learn more about her powers and who her father is in this book. Unfortunately, she learns more than she probably wants to know. I will definitely be reading. the next book in the series.

I love this series !🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Every book in this series spoke, whispered, shouted, revealed, and called to me in different ways—friendship, differences, family, identity, unhealed past, grief, unculled humor, outright unapologetic humor, trust, love, and possibility. Thank you, S. E. Babin! The human in me can’t help but to hope for more. ✨✨✨✨✨

outstanding

Love this story. I have read the series out of order and I am going back to catch up. This is so well written. The story is concise, the characters are perfect and I loved the banter between them. Another excellent read. Highly recommend. HFN, no cheating, no cliffhanger, just a continuous storyline into the next book.

I truly wish I could convey, share or explain with detail how awesome this series is.

The author reminds me of Patricia Briggs. Strong characters even the support characters ate strong.

Well this book I loved what happened to some of the bad people... I'm sure there is more that will be popping up but for this book I'm a happy camper.

Things keep getting weirder and wilder with Evie’s magic and demands made on her by gods and and some very not nice others. I am thinking this series is going to get even more unusual as Evie’s changes may change her world. Not sure I want to find out what those changes will be.
