Eerie Estes Mysteries #3

Steeped in the Beyond

Rate this book
Nothing says fall in the Rockies like cider, ghosts, and a dead guy.

Halloween in the charming mountain town of Estes Park promises to be magical for bookstore owner Ellie Read. The town's Fall Festival and haunted hayride are in full swing, complete with spooky decorations and ghostly displays that delight visitors from across Colorado. But when the evening takes an unexpected and sinister turn, Ellie finds herself at the center of a mystery that threatens to unravel the cozy community's peaceful existence.

And if one mystery weren't enough, Ellie faces another supernatural puzzle when a desperate spirit appears in the antique mirror of her bookstore. This restless ghost has unfinished business that only Ellie can help resolve, but reaching out to the living proves more complicated than either of them anticipated.

When threatening messages and vandalism target Ellie's store, the stakes become dangerously personal. Someone in Estes Park will stop at nothing to keep their secrets buried, and with Halloween night approaching and the veil between worlds thinning, Ellie races against time to solve both mysteries before she becomes the next target.

With guidance from Baxter, the sarcastic Victorian store ghost, her unusually perceptive cat Hobbes, and all her friends, Ellie must navigate both the world of the living and the realm of spirits.

In a town where the supernatural runs deep, the dead don't always rest in peace—and their stories refuse to stay silent.

I really like this series but the MC got on my last nerve in this book. Please don’t make her go into the tstl category, the way she runs off by herself to talk to potential killers and goes into places she has no business going and justifies it by saying the door was open. No one in town has to talk to her or answer her questions, she is not the police. The way she talked to Zach was borderline obnoxious. Having said all this I am reading the next book in the series.

Good story even though it seems like Ellie stumbles from one suspects to another until it's clear who the real culprit is.

She’s at it again but this time not necessarily her fault first there’s a ghost in a mirror who needs her help and second during the Falloween festival and her friends discover the dummy in the casket isn’t a dummy but a dead body. But as always she has to investigate. Sometimes to the point her friends get upset. Though this time around Noah does seem to work with her a tiny bit more.
In one sense, I do like that she’s persistent and just has 1 million questions but the other sense she does not think about danger.

I keep reading this series but

I keep reading this series but it’s kind of mind-boggling because I don’t like the main character. Ellie is astonishingly selfish, not even thinking about the risk her arrogant behavior places on her employee & her friends. She’s incredibly selfish-centered, and continues to break the law without any regard to the damage she is doing to crime scenes or chain of custody for evidence. Ellie is convinced that only *she* can solve these murders. All the while, a college student is stuck running her shop.

I did enjoy this story and the introduction to the spirit in the mirror but Ellie's interference with a murder investigation is getting a bit over done! She is constantly putting herself in a place where she is in danger, both for herself alone but also for her friends Sofia, and Valerie. I hope the next book in this series puts more emphasis on the budding relationship between her and the handsome detective.

I must agree with most people here. In this book l started getting irritated with the major characters' gall in thinking she's in control of solving this crime, defying the detective and inventing, quite honestly, lame justifications for her behavior. I will continue with the series as l have already purchased books 4-6 and the peripheral characters are quite entertaining.

Death at Halloween

At the Halloween festival, it turns out that the body in the display coffin isn't the dummy from the drama department. It's real. There are a lot of suspects to choose from.
There's also closure for a ghost in a mirror.

This is the 3rd in the series and I enjoyed it as much as the first 2. It is a quick cozy read. This time the body of the president of the neighborhood HOA that is despised by everyone is found at the Halloween Festival and by Ellie. Thus the next murder she becomes involved in.

I have enjoyed all the books so far in this series. I do admit that Ellie is getting a little carried away with the investigation of police cases. I really liked the ghost in the mirror, and I thought the ending was just perfect. On to the next book. Recommend reading.

I thought this was a cute story. It is the second book in this series that I have read. It is light and easy and a nice change of pace from more serious reads. I am looking forward to reading others in the series.
