A Murderous Blend in Mocha Mills: A Small Town Coffee Cozy Mystery

Rate this book
Coffee, community, and a killer who knows how to hold a grudge.

When celebrity coffee expert Jackson Greene arrives in Mocha Mills to judge the annual Summer Coffee Festival, café owner Vivian Palmer is hoping for nothing more stressful than fierce competition for the coveted Golden Bean award. But when Jackson is found dead at the bottom of the historic mill's cellar stairs, Vivian's peaceful small town is once again thrust into turmoil. With her observant nature and connections throughout town, Vivian finds herself drawn into the investigation as motives brew among the festival participants.

As the competition continues despite the tragedy, Vivian discovers that Jackson was stirring up more than just coffee rivalries—he was planning to reshape Mocha Mills' café scene in his own image, with winners and losers already decided. With help from her husband Frank, librarian friend Sylvia, and visiting daughter Zoe, Vivian must filter through a growing list of the rival café owner with a bruised reputation, the newcomer with a mysterious past, the assistant with royalty disputes, and the silent filmmaker who captures everything but reveals nothing.

The deeper Vivian delves into Jackson's dealings, the more she realizes that his death is just the final pour in a carefully crafted recipe for revenge. Racing against time as the festival nears its conclusion, she must uncover the killer before another person falls victim to the perfect blend of opportunity, motive, and bitter memories that can turn deadly in the cozy town of Mocha Mills.

Repetitive

This is the third book in the series. They could all be read as a stand alone, which would make it not as bad of a read. BUT when read as a series there are a lot of flaws. They repeat parts of the previous book, but make it seem like new information (ex: the relationship between Dr. Lewis and Marcus Webb). Things that happened previously with characters apparently have no longer happened in this book. I guess this is what is to be expected when multiple people write a different book of the series.

At least the cozy mystery aspect is there.

Character confusion

Enjoy this author, however, things happen in one book and then the next book totally contradicts them. In book 2, the person who committed the murder is suddenly back and gets with her old boyfriend. The sheriff acts like he didn't even know they used to be together, even though that was discussed in book 2. The main
character's daughter calls her dad by his first name one time, confusing me at first that maybe she was Frank's stepdaughter. Then she goes back to saying "Dad". Very conflicting.

Very confusing! I am reading the series in order. In book 2 the mayor is resigning and someone is found to be the murderer (don’t want to give it away). In book 3, the mayor has not resigned and the murdered in book 2 is out and never mentioned about their involvement in the previous murder.
