HOW FAR WOULD YOU GO TO EXACT REVENGE ON THE PERSON YOU HATE MOST?
He wanted her.
She rejected him.
So, he humiliated her in front of their entire high school.
Now, she plots revenge...and won't stop until his life is destroyed.
This story explores the consequences of bullying, the destructive nature of revenge and the complexities of granting forgiveness to those who may never deserve it.
YA Thriller based around high school drama amongst “friends,”made for a great read! Very suspenseful. It kept me anticipating what was going to happen next. Can’t wait to read book 2!
Thank you to the author for allowing me to read this early 🤎
This is a story about high schoolers and the drama that goes on between friends or so called friends and the games they play with each other's minds and life, I really liked this story and it reminds me of the days I was in high school, although I think there is a lot more bullying these days. I can't wait for the 2nd part of this book.
I was lucky enough to get an ARC and was thrilled to read it! Although it wasn’t a thriller like his other books it was just as good :) It’s incredible how one wrong choice can affect so many lives. Bullying happens each and every day, especially in high school and can affect so many people. The ripple effect at its finest. Revenge isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I look forward to read the other books in the series as they come available.
Even though this book is based in high school it just shows how bullying (especially now with all the technology out there) can be scary and dangerous for all involved.
Let’s face it, being in high school will be the best or the worst time of your life. Some it’s both. For me….lets just say I’m glad we didn’t have social media and also any pictures taken were easily burned along with the negatives. (Yes I know I’m showing my age lol)
But seriously this book touches down on the good, the bad and the down right evils of high school. It shows how one persons actions can create a domino effect. It shows just how fast things go viral.
The mom in me wanted to hug a few characters. As well as slap a few too. But then I was able to relate to some of these characters in wanting revenge. But what is too far when it comes to revenge? How far will any of these kids go to get their revenge.
This is the first book in a new series for Spencer and I am hooked. I am trying to be patient in waiting for the next one. This book is bullying at its finest. There is a war between Heather and Jacob that spirals out of control when she rejects him. Things get way out of hand and end up involving many friends. Many people get hurt physically and mentally and it takes a toll on all. Hopefully they can work things outs without too much damage.
NO SPOILERS My Rules For Revenge by Spencer Guerrero - Author Release Date: Sept 4, 2025
This is my first stab at the YA genre. I decided to read this because if you’ve read any of his other books you know you’re going to read something very good! And it is.
WTAF!!!
These high school characters - their warped humor, heightened emotions, and chaotic energy are perfectly captured by Spencer’s writing.
Bullies that bully bullies. Hormonal rage. Tangled relationships. Smart a$$ comments. Easily triggered. Drama galore. Granting forgiveness when people may not deserve it. Truth will always come out. You’ve captured it all!
👉🏻 But also the realism of some high school problems and issues. 👈🏻
This is his 3rd book that I’ve read and I could not stop reading. It has many POVs and jumps around at times but you don’t fall out of focus.
Spencer Guerrero - Author you have a special talent for writing and you are a comedian! Thank you for the privilege of being on your ARC team! I have a front row seat to your artistry and I am loving it. All your stories have gripped me by the throat. Each in a unique way. I wish you lots of success!
My review for My Rules For Revenge: I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed the High School drama content! I don't normally seek out these types of books filled with teenage drama. It brought me back to my long ago High School days and gave me melancholy! This book is fast paced but easy to follow along. It has some great storylines and holy cow moments! The comedy that is thrown in here and there is done brilliantly! My favorite character is Jacob 💙
I’m normally not a YA reader but I was fortunate to be an eARC reader. Huge thanks to Spencer for the opportunity!
I had so many emotions during this read: Anger, confusion, heartbreak, etc. I questions my morals many times while rooting for these characters.
Heather has an angry problem and often takes things WAY too far, but deep down is a nice girl who would do anything to protect herself and her loved ones. She demands respect.
Indira is a naïve, quiet girl with a dark side.
Jacob is a clueless and desperate boy. He makes many mistakes with girls and says the wrong things. He has big academic goals for himself which I respect.
Eddy, everyone knows him as the nice guy, but is he really?! Not to mention, he doesn’t seem to really have any goals other than to follow in his best friend’s shadow.
I cannot wait for the second book and see where these character’s paths take them.
Spencer has a way of keeping my attention. I had the absolute pleasure of being an ARC reader. This book is geared towards YA so not any gore or murder, yet. The story actually made you think. Think about bullying, the tolls it takes and the length at which a person would go through to exact revenge. It was sadly, pretty spot on to how high schools are and the minds of the students. But it also showed other emotions like empathy, sympathy, and regret. It shows that some can learn forgiveness even when that's the hardest to do. I cant wait for the rest of this series!!
This book pulled me in from the first chapter. Spencer brilliantly explores the pain of betrayal, the dark pull of revenge, and the different treacherous paths toward forgiveness. The characters felt raw and relatable, despite being high school students. The tension kept me hooked until the very end. Perfect for fans of intense young adult mysteries with heart and depth. As always, I am looking forward to the next book! *thankful to have received this ARC.*
High School drama anyone!?! This story is packed with all the feels of being back in HS. There's not one dull moment within this story. The amount of drama, scandals, and bullying that took place within these pages will have you floored. I loved the dynamics of the characters. That twist...... That ending...... Looking forward to part 2 and how it'll tie in.
Thank you Spencer Guerrero and Bookfunnel for the eARC. This review is that of my own.
OMG!! First I felt like I was in high school all over again! The drama was definitely there, same with the twists. This book had me angry, sad, laughing & crying all at the same time! You really felt the emotions throughout the whole book! It hooked me from page one til the very end! Can’t wait for the second book!
This is an honest review by an ARC reader. A story of high school friendships, romance, enemies and all around teenage drama all rolled into one. I highly recommend this book (soon to be series) for any young adult. They will be able to relate to the story with its cyber bullying, friendship loyalty and the tough home life that teenagers often find themselves in. I look forward to seeing where this story takes us in the coming books. It looks like book 2 will be a wild ride. Note: I highly recommend reading any of Spencer’s psychological thriller standalone novels.
Oh I liked this so much! This was different from his usual books but I’ve been on a ya kick lately so I really enjoyed it! It literally took me back to high school but it wasn’t childish it still had that edge to it like his other books! Also that ending setting up book 2 was so good!
Really good for a YA book. Goes thru high school life just like it where real life. Touched things that unfortunately teens of today has to deal with. Definitely can't wait for book 2 to come out! Glad I got the opportunity to be an ARC reader.
I got this book as an arc read and I loved it!!!! It was definitely different than what this author had written before but I loved it!!!! I can’t wait for book 2.
I was lucky to be part of Spencer ARC readers and well this book did not disappoint. I was hooked on the first page. The way the chapters are written makes it easy to follow the storyline. definitely one to read when it comes out and looking forward to the next one to follow ..
This book surprised me! This book was filled with so much DRAMA. It felt like high school on steroids with the amount of revenge that went down. I'm eagerly awaiting the 2nd book.
Loved it!!! I just finished reading the ARC for My Rules For Revenge. What a palate cleanser from my normal Thriller reads. I almost forgot how fun YA books are! This book captured HS life in its entirety. Cliques, jealousy, bullying, vengeance. Even the lingo was on point. I literally felt like I was there walking the halls with these crazy teens! Everyone has a story. Is your friend truly your friend? Who can you trust? When is enough enough and too much too much? Great job! Can't wait for the next!!
My first time being an ARC reader and what a great honor! Thank you so much for sharing your book with me. It was a great read and I can't wait to continue the series! Loved all the drama lol
I had the amazing opportunity to be an eARC reader for My Rules For Revenge - Spencer’s first book in his YA series - and let me tell you, I’m super glad about it! It’s very different to what we’re used to seeing from him but it was a refreshing, easy, enjoyable and somewhat nostalgic read! Although US schools are different to UK ones, the experiences and people are universal and this book took me right back there to all the teenage drama and the biggest Dilberts you’ll ever meet 😏
Are people who they really say and portray themselves to be? How much are you willing to risk to go through with your idea of revenge and retaliation? How much of yourself are you willing to sacrifice to stay friends with someone you probably shouldn’t? And in the end, is it all worth it…
It’s set in a high school that focuses mainly around 3 groups of friends and looks at how the people around you can influence your decision making and how differently you can act by soaking up what they give out. The people within these groups have apparent differences in personalities that are well portrayed through the writing and takes you back to those god awful teenage years! Fun fact, I was very much a Heather. A hot headed, fist swinging girl with the protective nature and good heart buried deep inside there, who also had a knack for holding a grudge but didn’t quite know how to navigate the hormonally charged emotions that teenage life brings with it. Thankfully, there wasn’t really any social media at that time and definitely weren’t any cyber exposés! 😅 Anyway, I digress. This book touches on sensitive topics for young adults experiencing grief, mistrust - in both friends and adults alike, betrayal, cyber bullying attacks, emotional turmoil and frayed parental relationships. We can all relate to it and it’s written well. I was completely invested from the moment I started reading to the moment I stopped - on a cliffhanger I might add (thanks Spencer 🙄🙈) and would absolutely recommend trying this one out! Whether YA is your thing or not (it’s generally not mine) I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how much of an enjoyable read it is. Great job Spencer! Now hurry your tush up with book 2 please 🤓 thanks a mil! 😘😂
My Rules For Revenge is the first book in the Twisted YA Mysteries series. I was completely hooked by this teenage high school drama. There is no murder in this one, it's more of a suspenseful drama, but I was absolutely hooked and read it in one sitting, I couldn't put it down. It was both hilarious and suspenseful. Guerrero really created something super fun, impossible to put down and highly entertaining. The lengths to which they go to enact revenge was just impossible to look away from. It was so easy and became addicting to be involved in their toxicity. I think Spencer nailed it with what he was trying to do with this book !
The characters were a freaking blast. They are all hormonal teenagers, high up in their feelings, they're angry, they're sad, they're betrayed and they want revenge. Heather is absolutely unhinged and I was here for it! This girl's fuse blows up in 2.5 seconds 😂 This book just showed also how one simple action, reaction or choice can start a whole chain reaction. How easy it is nowadays for things to go viral, to make others believe what you want especially with AI and all those modification apps.
Overall, this was such a fun read. Different from my usual “thriller” reads as it did not have the murder aspect. The author still managed to truly create something that was so captivating, so entertaining and that I think younger and older readers will enjoy! It's a fast palate cleanser in between your more intense and darker reads. You won't be able to put it down! Can't wait for book 2 😍
✨ ️ Thank you to @spencerguerrero for my gifted ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Disclaimer: I read about 3 other books at the same time I was reading this book; otherwise, this would not have been a 5-day read for me. That being said, Guerrero delivered with this YA novel. I was immediately drawn back to my own adolescence and young adulthood as I read through this book at different stages. I found myself thrust back into the throes of high school in such a nostalgic way. This is my first book by the author, and he impressed. I was sucked into the worlds of Heather and Jacob and all their “friends.” Admittedly, if you’re not a fan of juvenile writing styles and dialogue, you may wish to stick to Guerrero’s thrillers for older adults instead. The book has multiple POVs and is dialogue heavy, which I know is not everyone’s cup of tea. It is usually not mine either, but Guerrero’s story kept me invested enough to look beyond those points. “My Rules for Revenge” is a fun read that reminds us why revenge may not always be the best way to find peace or happiness within ourselves. I was really close to hitting 5 stars on this one, but the ending left me wanting a little more. So, 4.5/5 it is. It is worth mentioning that this is the first book of a series, but I still wanted a slightly stronger cliffhanger at the end. Overall, I’m excited to continue to support and engage with Guerrero’s work. I am honored to have gotten to read this ARC, and I feel inspired to check out his fav recommendations , “My Father is a Serial Killer” or “My Son is a Murderer” next.
First of all, I want to shout thank you to Spencer Guerrero for sending me an ARC to read & review. I can honestly say that the pleasure was all mine. At Brightwood High, revenge is a popular elective & class is always in session. It all starts when an underage girl's nude photos are leaked by a trusted friend, igniting an inferno which will burn everyone in its path. At the end of the day, students are left questioning themselves & those around them. This book packs a very powerful punch. Mystery, intrigue, suspense, pettiness, revenge, sex, redemption arcs. There's something here for readers of all ages, so don't be discouraged by the YA designation. I'm an adult who is firmly entrenched in her vengeful villain era & I loved it. I could have easily read it in one sitting, but I paced myself. As much as I wanted to tear through it & find out what was around the next corner, I also didn't want it to end. Spencer Guerrero's books are akin to being placed on a roller coaster & blindfolded. You don't know where you're going & you don't care. Even if you think you know which direction you're going, you're wrong. All you know for sure is that you don't want the ride to end. When it sadly does, you want to go again. Only don't expect the car to be on the same track.
I don't usually read YA books, but I have found some to be quite good. Spencer Guerrero writes a great YA book.
The plot brings you back to your high school days where there were clicks of popular kids and not popular kids. The mean kids and the nice and quiet kids. The characters, Indira, Heather, Eddy, Vivian and some others include all of the above. The many POV's helps you see what each of the characters were thinking at the time of the events, in the past and in the present. The topics the author presents in the book are very real to many people even today. Bullying is very real, and it takes many forms that affect many people. Sometimes the consequences last many years and even a lifetime. At times, I had to figure out who was telling their story, but once you get the groove the story comes together nicely. The language was a little rough, but it is factual to how kids really talk amongst themselves.
The author did a great job of showing bullying, loneliness, hatred, and downright cruelty to others. He also showed us the way to forgiveness whether it be immediate or considering it. I liked this book a lot and I highly recommend. Thanks to the author for the arc of this book.
This is a Twisted Young Adult Mysteries book 1. Remember, this is a YA book based in high school with lots of drama
Indira always focused on her studies until that one night, which changed everything. Heather is her friend, and she is a firecracker ready to explode, Vivian is Heather's best friend and very quiet and doesn't like conflict and Eddy is a on the basketball team and he betrayed Indira and won't help her find the one that wronged her, so now she is out for retribution and won't stop til the one's who did it is sabotaged. Jacob wasn't friends with the jocks or buddies, so that made him an oddball senior alongside his best friends, Manny and Carlos, who are known as the nerds and computer wizards. Something bad happened a year ago with Indira, and then Jacob and his friends did something to Heather in the present, so the book jumps from a year ago, and the present which i really liked. Every character adds a different kind of tension. This book leaves on a cliffhanger, and I can't wait to read book 2 ASAP. This is a really good YA book.
