In a warm, conversational style of writing, Dr. Douk introduces his concept in the Introduction, stating ‘Meaningful change only happens when you bring all of yourself to the table – mind, body, and spirit,’ and with that invitation he presents his nine essential dimensions of wellness - intellectual, creative, financial, occupational, physical, environmental, spiritual, emotional, and social - that work together to create lasting health and fulfillment. His thoughts mirror his work in Neurobiotheology (even the three aspects of that word emphasize his message – Mind, Body, Spirit - or Neuroscience, behavioral psychology, and spiritual intelligence!), and his advancements of the wholeness of health is enlightening and life changing. Deeply inspirational!
This book made me slow down and think about how I usually look at well being in a very divided way. Sometimes it feels like sleeping better or eating differently should fix everything, but real life is more complicated. I liked the idea that well being is not only body or mind, but several areas that affect each other, even if we do not always notice it.
While reading, I thought about daily life, work, relationships, and the tiredness that builds up without warning. Not everything can be changed at once, and the book does not promise easy solutions. It invites you to look at yourself with some honesty, even when it feels uncomfortable. In the end, it leaves the feeling that feeling well is not about being perfect, but about adjusting, letting go a little, and taking responsibility for what you can change, step by step.
There are many possible wellness goals. If you feel unfulfilled in life, then the chances are high that you’re not reaching one of them, or several. This book explains what goes into wellness. It breaks the concept down into a formula and lets you know how you can tell if you’re lacking in any of wellness’s fundamental aspects.
Once you’ve figured out whether you’re unfulfilled socially, emotionally, financially, or in one of the other crucial wellness areas, then you can get to work alleviating your feelings of failure or disquietude. There are ways to do it, and the author is an expert at telling you about them. Soon, you will take the necessary steps to get to where you want to be in your wellness journey.
Having good health is not just about having good physical health, but also about having good mental health. But to achieve both, there are many factors that affect our well-being. ‘’The Art and Science of Well-Being’’ brings us a nine-step guide to apply and work on ourselves. With three pillars: mind, body, and spirit, this book will guide you on the path to regaining tranquillity. Without going into too much detail, this book covers the essentials and explains very well how to work in these areas. Based on the author's experiences, this book has become a bible of well-being. I highly recommend it, especially the chapter about creativity and environmental wellness; these were essential for me.
This book helped me look at health in a more complete and balanced way. Instead of focusing on just one area of my life, it explains how mind, body, and spirit are all connected as a whole. The idea this definition that states the book of the nine dimensions is something powerful and gave me a lot of value, because it shows that feeling well is not only about health or mindset, but about how everything works together. What I liked most is that the book mixes practical ideas with reflection. While reading, I felt invited to pay more attention to areas of my life I usually ignore or assume they are ok. Now, I’m aware and grounded about how I need to pay attention to my well-being.
I know little about behavioral health, and I must say that it has surprised me. I felt that all the areas that the doctor presents as relevant to life applied perfectly to the bumps I often feel in life and the balance I need to achieve. I feel that since reading the book, I have let go of some chains and found a path to liberation.
The doctor brings with him and his experience a huge number of tools for all kinds of life circumstances. It feels like a way to focus energy and finally find a center of complete stability.
This book is for everyone; everyone needs to identify that center.
Truly useful and helpful “The Art and Science of well-being” is an interesting and useful guide penned by Dr. Rob Douk. Thanks to his life experiences, his medicinal knowledge and his expertise as a doctor, he has penned a book that contains wisdom and ideas to apply in life. Rob explains the 9 dimensions that make possible a state of wellness. Every chapter deals with topics and concepts that people should know to work for their well-being. The way the author explains everything is really absorbing and catchy. There is no room for questions. I found it excellent and I’m applying some tips in my life. I definitely recommend it.
There were elements I liked about this book. The authors life story for example is very interesting and there are useful models and exercises to enhance your wellbeing and self reflection. However for me the emphasis on religion was too much. I do believe we have and need a spiritual side for our sense of wellbeing but for me it means something different. I am sure many people will find this book useful. Thanks to NetGalley and Forbes books for the ARC.
This book stuck with me even after I finished the last chapter. The author does a great job explaining how different parts of life connect to overall well-being. His personal journey adds depth to the ideas and makes them feel more authentic. I liked that the book encourages reflection instead of pushing quick fixes. It left me thinking about small changes I can make moving forward.
I picked this up thinking it would be another typical wellness book, but it ended up giving me a completely different perspective. The nine dimensions concept helped me see how things like purpose, relationships, and creativity influence my health just as much as diet or exercise. The author’s life story adds a lot of depth to the ideas. It felt like learning from someone who has actually lived through challenges and growth
A frame work that changed how I look at my life now
This book helped me see how many areas of life contribute to feeling fulfilled. The nine dimensions gave me a simple way to evaluate where I am doing well and where I need to improve. I realized I had been focusing too much on work and ignoring other parts of my life. The structure of the book made it easy to reflect on each area. I came away with a clearer sense of balance.
Made me more aware of what well-being actually means, I really enjoyed reading this book. The way the author explains the nine dimensions of wellness helped me see how different areas of life connect. It made me think more about balance instead of focusing on just one aspect of health. The writing is clear and easy to follow.
I picked this up during a time when I felt burned out. The book explains how exhaustion often comes from imbalance across different parts of life. Seeing wellness through the nine dimensions helped me understand what was missing. It gave me a clearer direction for where to focus my energy. That alone made a big difference.
What stood out to me about this book is how it brings so many parts of life together in one place. Most books focus on just health or mindset, but this one explains how things like work, relationships, and purpose all interact. The nine dimensions framework made everything easier to understand. I found myself thinking about areas of my life I usually ignore.
The author’s psychology background really shows in the way the concepts are explained. At the same time, the advice feels practical and grounded in everyday life. It never felt overly academic or complicated. Instead it felt like learning useful tools for living.
Helps you see what you might be missing. The biggest takeaway for me was understanding that well being is built across multiple parts of life. The nine dimensions provide a way to work toward balance instead of chasing one solution. It encouraged me to focus on relationships purpose and emotional health as much as career or productivity. That shift made a lasting impact.
A very worthwhile read This book offers a clear explanation of how different areas of life influence overall well-being. The author’s background and experiences add credibility to what he shares. I liked that the book combines research with personal insight. It made the message feel genuine.
Focuses on long-term growth This book left me feeling hopeful and motivated. The author explains how different parts of life connect in a way that feels natural and clear. I liked that it focuses on long term well being instead of quick fixes.
I like the book, well-written and thought-provoking. There were a couple of passages that really made me pause and think about some of my past traumas.
