My car broke down in front of a grumpy bear shifter's cabin in the middle of nowhere.

He just happens to be my older brother's best friend, and the last person I'd ever want to be trapped with.

But it started snowing.

And considering my brutal fiancé is hot on my heels, hiding out with the grizzly seems like a better option than risking my life to get away in the middle of a storm.

When his beast goes insane and bites me in an attempt to claim me as his mate, crap hits the fan fast.

We have to fight our urges to finish the bond he started between us, or we risk connecting ourselves permanently.

Not to mention that my fiancé will legitimately kill me.

Or that bear shifters don't stay with their mates.

I can't afford to give in to my lust… even if it starts to look a little like love.

I’m sure this book could be great, I’m just having a hard time finding a story that really pulls me in right now. It might just be a case of wrong book, wrong mood, so I may try again later:)

Less smut, more actual content, and it would have been fine. Sadly, that wasn't the case.

Welcome back to Cub Lake with Bearly in Love, the third book in Lola Glass's Cub Lake series. This book centers on Madison and Bo but has a few familiar faces.

For the first time since I started reading Lola, there's a born shifter as an MFC. Madison is a fox shifter who is running from an arranged marriage. There is a small fire, and the bear shifter Bo, who is her brother's best friend, should come to her rescue. They didn’t have the best relationship growing up, but now they're finding something new when they're forced to spend a lot of time together because of a storm.

Bo and Madi have the most laid-back relationship ever. Friendship came very easily to them. Between playing video games, eating meals together, teasing, watching movies, and more, I can see how they bonded quickly. The attraction between them was pretty hard to ignore, so things got steamy pretty fast. I liked them together. However, neither had good examples of relationships, so they had a time figuring things out. Like, it shouldn't have been that difficult. At this point, the bear shifters need to have a community meeting to discuss the BS tradition they have of leaving their families. Bo didn't even believe in fated mates, and that's just sad. It was a little painful for a second because neither Bo nor Madi had a clue, but they did figure things out eventually.

I enjoyed the rest of the plot. A wicked snowstorm and a runaway bride with her skulk right on her tail—it's exciting. Especially towards the end, there was a scene that seemed like it came straight from a movie. Bearly in Love was a happy read with tropes I love. I enjoy this series so much; I hope there's more to come from Cub Lake.

It was cute, sexy, and a little ridiculous with a touch of drama. Loved it.

Though I wouldn't be me if I didn't have atleast one thing to nitpick over...so here we go. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Truly the only issue I had with this book was how the FMC Madi was so stubborn and maybe even at times willfully ignorant to what was literally right in front of her. It was like banging my head against the wall listening to her repeat over and over and over how Bo didn't even like her, that he hated her, that it was just attraction, and that the sex they were having was meaningless even after they bonded as friends the entire time.

Bo claimed throughout his whole life and to Madi personally he didn't want a mate because of how his parents mating went and how he was left to fend for himself as a cub. Not once did he say he didn't want a relationship with her at all! Even without a mate bond. He outright admitted he was and had been obsessed with her most of their lives even.

She just came across as genuinely ignorant of how shifters and mating truly works or she was stubbornly refusing to see what was right in front of her tbh. I still don't know which, though I'm leaning towards the latter. Because acting as if Bo being obsessed with her scent was "no big deal" since it was a "thing" for shifters was outright nuts to me since she was a shifter herself. A shifter can enjoy another person's scent but to be absolutely obsessed with it and their animal too? Like ???? Unless she was never truly taught about shifter matings despite being one herself because of her whole arranged to be married from the womb??? Because if that was the case, which it'd be easy to assume very well could have been, it was never stated.

Anway... Idk man, her constang denial just really got me in my feels and all frustrated for a minute. 😂 Like, I was just cruising along enjoying the ride and then bam! I tripped into annoying FMC territory and I was doing so well too! 🙈😭

Otherwise, loved it! Regardless of any frustration it's always a fun time in Lola's book world.

The only thing that gives me the ick was how mean her brother and the best friend were to her when they were younger. Her brother was so mean and had nothing to do with her.

And the MC wanted so badly to NOT think about FMC, he screwed other girls in the next room so she could hear. Eeeew. No thanks.

“Bearly in Love” is a spicy paranormal romance by Lola Glass. It is a true standalone from the Supernatural Prison World and is related to “All’s Fair in Love and Magic” and the “Cub Lake Novellas.” Madison returns from her girls' trip at the Supernatural Resort to face the music: she is getting married to a man twice her age because she is the only female kitsune in the world. The day before her wedding, she escapes her fiancé…until her car catches on fire and she’s saved by the bear shifter, Ambrose (Bo). Ambrose is off limits as her brother's best friend and her enemy, but, as the snow locks them in the house, will they give in to temptations they’ve secretly hidden for years? Will she be able to escape in time?

🦊 What to Expect 🐻
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️, Enemies to Lovers, Accidental Mates, Runaway Bride, Brother’s Best Friend, Shifter Romance, Trapped in a Snowstorm

At 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️, “Bearly in Love” is a spicy, unbridled, and passionate love affair between two people who give themselves a week to explore the passion between them until Madison can flee to the Resort. Their accidental mating perpetuates the unintentional love forming between them.

“Bearly in Love” is fairly well paced and spends the majority of the book alongside Bo and Madison as they spend their week together waiting out the snowstorm. The pacing does speed up after their week in the cabin is over, but it is tied up nicely nonetheless.

On a serious note, “Bearly in Love” confronts an archaic theme of marrying for status and using women to procure that status. Madison is determined to mate for love, not for status or to produce more kitsunes. We see her fiancé, his family, and members of her family pushing for this- even threatening her life if she doesn’t follow through.

As a standalone novel, you don’t need to read the “Cub Lake Novellas” or the other books in the “Supernatural Prison World.” In my opinion, however, I would read “All’s Fair in Love and Magic” first. Doing this first introduces you to Madison’s character, her friends, why she would seek out the Resort, and her determination to get out of her wedding in the first place.

hmm. So I've been in the most brutal reading slump I can remember. Nothing has kept me engaged so this at least got me to the finish line. spoilers.

This is short and sweet, we get the limited time in the cabin, the wedding crashing, the mating, then the epilogue. Now it's supposed to be short and sweet so that's not a critique but the critiques I have could probably have been fixed if this was flushed out.

1) I don't think I ever connected with our main characters. We get a super vague overview of them but no depth. What did he do when they were teens? besides screw other girls. God what I would've given for a few flashbacks scenes to make that relationship. And okay, both of them have traumatic pasts and we just kind of acknowledge and move on.

2) She compares him to the same level of asshole as the alpha she is running away from multiple times in the beginning of the book. If that's true then why give him a shot at all? and if it's not true than it's weird she made that comparison so many times. The alpha tried to kill her and kept her trapped her whole life. how did a boy you knew that was kinda an asshole come even close to that guy?

3) This love story was rushed and she was annoying about it. They don't admit to living each other until around 97 percent. We barely get to see them happy together and it was a let down for me. I just keep thinking that she acted way more naive than her life suggested.

overall, fast read and Lola glass always comes through for me but I just wanted more

3.5 ⭐️ This would have been 4+ but the FMC Madi started to drive me nuts in the last third of the book. Possible spoilers ahead

So Madi and Bo grew up together, he’s her brother’s best friend. They haven’t seen each other for 5 years and while she’s on the run from a truly heinous arranged marriage her car breaks down near his cabin. He offers her a place to stay even though she’s wary since they don’t have the best history (he and her brother were mean to her growing up, and/or basically ignored her), and they end up getting snowed in.

This was a super cute story, and seeing Madi and Bo’s relationship go from distant acquaintances who didn’t seem to get along well to good friends with great chemistry was so fun. They shared about their lives and cleared up some lingering issues from when they were teens. They do a whole friends with benefits thing and Bo accidentally bites her. And then her evil fiancé shows up to whisk her back to the wedding. And at this point I’m ready for Bo and Madi to be together, him to save her from the bad guy, and them to live happily ever after.

But here’s the thing, he saves her, realizes that she really his is mate and he loves her and wants to be with her, and the whole time this chick is holding on to grudges from 10+ years ago so tightly she doesn’t hear him when he says how he feels. So so. Damn. Stubborn and obstinate. The miscommunication trope is played way too hard here. She’s so convinced he can’t be in love with her because he was a dick when they were teens, and it’s like.. what?! I get you grew up feeling alone and abandoned but girl your brother and his best friend were teen boys. Like… it’s not that huge of a deal. She acts like her brother threw her to this evil fiancé and walked away, even when she admits him standing up for her would get him killed….?? Bo apologizes multiple times for being an ass as a teen while also saying he’s been in love with her forever and she still is like “no my guy, you don’t love me. That’s not love. You were slightly mean to me so you can’t love me now”. The whole thing was tedious and irritating. Glass saved the story in the end with the epilogue but I was so irritated with Madi by that point I couldn’t give it a higher rating.

Still a cute read and checks all the great Lola Glass pallet cleanser boxes.

I loved this book! It was such a fun, sweet book. It has a brother's best friend and they fall for each other. Ambrose is so sweet and grumbly. I loved him so much. Madi has so many walls up to protect herself. She has never had anyone protect her. Iloved the chemistry between the two. I really loved the ending!.

Bearly in Love is a standalone title, although it does seem connected to other series. Madi is on the run from an unwanted arranged marriage to an alpha who basically wants a baby machine to churn out daughters for sale. Yeah. Great guy (sarcasm). She falls far short of her destination when her useless piece of junk car catches fire, and she is rescued by her brother’s best friend, Ambrose (Bo). Due to back-to-back snowstorms, Madi is stuck at Bo’s cabin and completely unhappy about it. And she’s not shy about letting Bo (and us) know just how much she hates Bo, doesn’t want to be there, intends to escape as soon as possible, like he’s holding her there or something… spoiler, he’s not. Bo has been obsessed with Madi for years now. He won’t put an emotion on what he feels, but he certainly cannot let her die in a snowstorm, or marry an alpha that basically bought her. They both have conflicting feelings about each other, and it shows in banter, sex, lots and lots of sex.

For me, Bearly in Love by Lola Glass is a good story. I simply could not like or care about Madi as I was constantly annoyed by her. I know that I was supposed to understand why Madi and also Bo were the way they were – unable to define what love is, unwilling to accept that mates can be fated, and from the way both of their parents treated them, it’s obvious why they couldn’t make that connection in what they were feeling. I simply could not get beyond the way I was constantly annoyed by Madi’s words, her actions throughout the story. And, frankly, that is on me, not the author. Bearly in Love by Lola Glass gets a four (4) star rating from me for the level of writing by the author. I wish I could have loved this one, but I simply couldn’t.

Madison is on the run from her arranged marriage to the Alpha of her skulk (group of foxes). As the only female kitsune in existence, her father pretty much sold her to the Alpha. Now it is time for the wedding and she runs for it. Her car pretty much dies and does a flame on. She is lucky because her brother’s bestie, Ambrose, who is a bear shifter, finds and saves her because a snow storm hits. Ambrose Stevenson has had feelings for Madi for years but hasn’t shown it or allowed it out, until he is stuck with her in his home for days because there are a cascade of snow storms that hit the area. Due to the fact that her brother, Artie, believed that she was going to have a better life with the Alpha and her status vs his is vastly apart, they haven’t had much in common or been close at all. Madison had been to the Supernatural Resort, owned by Liam the phoenix and his blood witch mate, Sage. This is where Madi wants to get to, but is unable to because of the snowstorms.

Madi & Bo bicker a lot. Both are very strong willed and they are hilarious because they both have feelings for each other that end up coming out in boredom and things progress to steamy bedroomness. Just before her father, the Alpha and some more of the males of the skulk show up, something happens between her and Bo. The book is fun, funny, romantic, stomach churning, steamy and I loved it. SOOOOOO much. The fact that Madi still has contact with Sage and Vera (kelpie shifter, only female of that type), is fun too. I can’t wait to read Vera’s book. The fact that we also get to see some of the other male bears who’ve found their fated mates from other books show up was a lot of fun too.

A wonderful kitsune and bear shifter romance

This is another great shifter romance by Lola Glass; with great chemistry between the characters, humor, love 💖, steam, passion and overly possessive males. Set in a different part of the same world as the "Deceit & Devotion", "Wildwood", "Mate Mountain" and "Cub Lake Shifters" series, following Madison (from All's Fair in Love and Magic).

Madison has been engaged to her alpha since before she was born but all she wants is freedom. While trying to escape on the night before her wedding her car catches fire and she's dismayed to be found by her brother's grumpy best friend, a grizzly bear, who she knows has never liked her. Though he does help her out and gives her somewhere to stay during a snow storm which traps them in his cabin.

Ambrose has known for years that he wanted Madi, but she's his best friend's sister and so he's stayed away knowing her alpha would look after her. But when he finds her by her burning car he can't stop himself helping her. As they spend time together she starts to see another side to him and a friends arrangement is agreed on, though he knows he'll have to let her go eventually.

But with her fiancé still looking for her, can Bo find a way to help Madi to get out of her forced engagement and get her to realise what he truly feels about her?

it was great to read Madi’s story (linking “All’s Fair in Love and Magic” with the Cub Lake bear shifters) and I have to admit I love this world Lola's created, starting with the demons, and how it just keeps expanding and interconnecting.

Every time Lola releases a new book, I drop everything—no questions asked. Her stories are always packed with swoony romance, delicious angst, and just the right amount of spice. And best of all, they leave me feeling warm and happy long after I’ve turned the last page.
Book 3 of the Cub Lake Series is no exception. If you haven’t read All’s Fair in Love and Magic, I highly recommend starting there to get the full backstory on Madison—it’ll make this one even more satisfying. I devoured it in a single day. Couldn’t put it down.
Madison is desperate to escape a marriage she doesn’t want, and when things go sideways, Ambrose—her brother’s best friend—steps in to save her. The catch? They don’t exactly get along. At least not at first. But sparks fly, tension builds, and suddenly their animosity starts to look a lot like something else. Maybe.
The banter is sharp, the chemistry is off the charts, and the emotional depth gives the story real heart. Madison’s guarded nature and Ambrose’s emotional baggage (thanks to his parents’ messy history) make their journey feel raw and real. And when things finally heat up? Let’s just say Lola knows how to write a steamy scene.
One of my favorite things about this series is how Lola weaves in familiar faces from past books—it feels like coming home. She’s built a world that keeps expanding in the best way, with characters who feel like friends and stories that stay with you.
If you love romance with bite, heart, and heat, this one’s a must-read.

Loved this book! It’s nice to revisit cub lake again and also follow madison’s story who we met in all’s fair in love and magic. Characters from the other books do pop up in bearly in love, but it can be read as a stand alone, though the other books are fab and well worth a read to get insight into the wilder universe in these books.

Ambrose, a bear shifter who lives on the outskirts of cub lake, has been in love with his best friends sister and in denial about it for as long as he can remember. Madison, a fox shifter the only female kitsune, is fleeing from her fiancée the night before their wedding. Madi’s father arranged her marriage to the alpha of their pack as soon as they knew she was going to be female before she was born, and her father plans to force her to go through with the mating at all costs. Whilst escaping during a snowstorm madis car breaks down and she’s rescued by the surly grizzly who lives alone high in the mountain and just so happens to be her brothers best friend. Whilst they’re snowed in their friendship and feelings develop and things get steamy leading Ambrose to accidentally bite madi. Now all he has to do is acknowledge his true feelings, claim madi and save her from her forced mating!

Absolutely fab book, I was hooked from start to finish and couldn’t put it down! It was funny, entertaining and full of passion and drama!.

Gleeful Goblin Review: This was an interesting book for me as someone who's read a fair bit of this author because this is the first time I've seen where both main characters are shifters! In this case we have our MMC Bo as the bear referenced in the book title and we have Madi who is a kitsune (basically a fox shifter). I liked that because both characters are shifters we have a pretty stark culture clash as the main tension point of the story.

Both the bears and the kitsune have outdated and emotionally out of touch practices around being joined, with whom that joining happens, and having offspring. We get to see both characters struggle against tradition (with familial pressure as an added bonus) versus feeling the need to make the choices that feel right for both of them. That struggle leads to some very frustrating moments (for me at least) during the denial phase for these dorks. But it's well worth it because I knew that regardless of how much I wanted to shake one or both of these characters and yell "What are you thinking!" I was confident that a happily ever after was where things would end. 5/5 Stars.

DNF 90%. I have read 2 other cub lake novellas. Hudson's story and Reed's story. I actually liked those quite a bit. There was just something about this one that was irritating.

Maybe it was the 2 seconds it took our leads to fall into bed together. Maybe it was the completely unnatural conversation between Emily and Madi where Madi very carefully explains how Bo isn't in love with her(which doesn't convince anyone that he isn't in love with her). Maybe it was that after we had to suffer through the conversation with Emily Madi and Bo have a very similar conversation except she is telling him he isn't in love with her. Maybe it was that suddenly magic words are required to seal a mate bond. Whatever it was I am dropping the book and I probably won't return to it anytime soon if ever.

I am cutting myself off from Lola Glass books for at least 6 months. I dropped this at 90%. I honestly don't remember ever dropping a book after I made it that far in but I just can't finish it. I think if I don't take a break I won't be able to read her books anymore. These type of books are my overstressed, overtired, not too complicated HEA reads. I would hate to lose them forever.

Sometimes fate steps in putting two people exactly where she wants them so you might want to get comfortable you won’t put this one down until the last page has been turned. Madison is a fox shifter on the run after arranged her marriage to the alpha of their skulk since she is the only female without even asking her, so she ran but her car dies well actually it catches a fire just before a snowstorm and she is rescued by a bear shifter….one that has loved her from a distance. Bo sexy as all get out bear shifter grumpy, her brother’s best friend always had eyes for the curvy Madi but never said anything but when he gets her in his home during the snowstorm he shows her that he can take care of her, the thing is they were great as friends and he knew they would be the best as at mates. But neither of them knew what it was like to have a decent relationship or a bond with someone who loved them for them just because of them so the relationship thing was a little hard to figure out but they were figuring things out but would her family allow them to be, will her father continue to force the arranged marriage, will he allow them to be, and will they find the happiness they seek?

This book delivers exactly what fans of Lola Glass books have come to expect: a brooding, muscly bear shifter living alone in a cabin in the woods, and a rare female fox shifter running from an arranged marriage. This story hits all the familiar tropes. The steamy scenes were fun and definitely got me fanning my face, so credit where it’s due 🔥

That said, Madison, the heroine, becomes SUPER frustrating toward the end with her constant denial of Bo. The attraction between them is obvious to the reader, yet the author insists on dragging out contrived reasons why they can’t be together. The formula in between, including the kidnappings, misunderstandings, and dramatic back-and-forth, gets tiring to read, though I do love that her stories always end with a happily ever after.✨

I’ve read most of her series, and while I’ve enjoyed them as quick, escapist reads, after this latest release I can safely say I’m done with her formula for now.

If you’re looking for a “one-night stand” type of book, steamy, fast, and easy, this author delivers. But don’t expect deep plotlines or meaningful character arcs.😅

These two have known each other their whole lives - the MMC is her brother's best friend. They didn't have a great relationship growing up so they struggle a bit to come together. I liked that one of the things they have trouble with is his inability to ask questions, including getting married.

““You didn’t ask, Ambrose.”
Oh.
Shit.
I’d figured a surprise was the best way to stop her from stressing, but she had a point. I should’ve started with a question.”

He has a good level of humility to him and he learns.

I liked this line,

“I’m not into massive group events. If someone didn’t change my ass when I was a baby or I don’t talk to them regularly, I couldn’t care less if they want to celebrate me.”

And this,

“Now, hand me our son so you can rest.”
“You’re not allowed to use him to force me to let you take care of me more,” she warned.

What must it be like to have a man actually want to take care of you? Make sure you get enough sleep? I can hardly comprehend this.

If I want to read a shifters romance that keeps me engaged in the story, Lola Glass is the author I go with!

This book has you hooked right from the start. She is running away from a man twice her age that she has been betrothed to for years all because female fox shifters are rare and he is an alpha.

This story was so sweet and it switches POVs so you get to see that the bear shifter that rescued her actually does have feelings for her. There is very little real communication between these two until it is absolutely necessary, and that kind of drives me nuts.. but for this story it does make sense. He is a grumpy shifter who won’t accept his feelings for her. And she is doesn’t want to be tied down to someone who doesn’t want her for any other reason other than because who she is as a person. Not because she is a female fox shifter, or not because she is a “fated mate”. She wants to be loved for who she is.

I’ve said it before, but I love all the shifter romances written by Lola Glass and will forever suggest them to others who enjoy that genre.

Not as Cozy as Usual

Lola Glass is pretty much an auto download for me and I was happy to see a bear shifter book without pregnancy (until the epilogue) or a single parent from her. While I liked this book and was able to finish it, there was a piece that felt icky for me. Technically it wasn’t cheating.

Spoilerish but for safety-
When they were young the MMC has loud sex with other women in the FMC’s house just to prove to himself he didn’t want the FMC… It’s not cheating, they weren’t together, but it felt wrong and I almost put the book down. For me it’s still a point that lingers more than the earned HEA, they weren’t necessarily fated mates but it seemed like a point made just to prove how much the MMC wanted her? It was almost out of character for him. Thankfully Lola doesn’t write blushing virgins who get with a guy who is the opposite so the FMC had been with other people.

Bearly in Love is a sweet, spicy shifter romance that finds it’s MFC Madison on the run from an arranged marriage brokered since her birth to the alpha of her Skulk (group of foxes).
When her vehicle catches fire just before a snowstorm hits she is rescued by bear shifter Ambrose.
Madison has always had a crush on her brothers best friend but never would have believed it was reciprocated until he proves to her it was.
They both have issues that need to be resolved as between the storm and the simmering lust making itself known things have become a little bit complicated.
Throughly enjoyed this story that was written well, had drama, humor, spice, shifter politics, and family dynamics bringing the reader on quite an entertaining journey.

- Cute, cozy with some heat!
- Quick and breezy read.
- If you like bear shifter x fox shifter, brothers' best friend, haters to lovers and forced proximity.
- Madison gets stranded in Bo's cabin in the middle of a snow storm as she's running away from her arranged marriage.
- It was very sweet to see these two fall for each other! How they could not fight their attraction. Bo just loves feeding, caring and protecting Madison.

- Madison went a little too hard and too long with her denial.
- This felt a bit slower paced than her other books that I've read recently.

This was disappointing. I don’t think this author is for me. Didn’t like that the MMC was an asshole to her in both the past and the present and there was no groveling or true apology or explanation. Didn’t like that his name was Ambrose and he didn’t honor her request not to be called by stupid nicknames instead of her full name, Madison. Didn’t like that he continued to moon over her asshole brother even though he was an abusive misogynistic asshole to Madison. Yuck. Didn’t like him, I guess. And the absolutely bizarre memory of him having sex with other women while she could hear, that they felt the need to share multiple times was just gross. Madison deserved way way way better than everyone and everything in this book. The fact she didn’t get it was sad.

Bearly in Love is a fun and quick read for anyone who loves paranormal romance. When the heroine's car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, she gets stuck with a grumpy bear shifter who happens to be her brother's best friend.

This book is full of classic romance tropes like enemies-to-lovers and forced proximity, but with the added twist of a brutal fiancé and some steamy moments. It's a standalone story, so you can jump right into this delightful, feel-good romance. If you're looking for a short and sweet escape with a protective hero and a sassy heroine, this one is for you!.

Like I’ve said before I’m so picky when it comes to fantasy romance but Lola checks off every box for me with her books. They’re never too long and the pacing and plot is always perfect and cohesive. Her characters are so easy to fall in love with and you’re always rooting for them.

I’m a sucker for happy endings and every single one of her books have a happy ending. Lola’s books are perfect for when you literally just want to escape.

Bearly in Love was another 5 ⭐️ read for me. Are we surprised?! This was so cute, it was spicy and the banter was fun.

I can’t wait for the next Lola book!

It was cute coming back to Cub Lake, and finally seeing Madison again after being teased with her story. Her relationship with Bo was satisfying to watch as they learned to understand and listen to each other, though I will say Bo needed to grovel more. I was scared Madi's relationship with her brother would be glossed over completely, but thankful for that small exchange.

As is typical of Glass's books, the conflicts just get cleared up so quickly. There wasn't enough time to be tense because we know everything will be sorted out in just a couple of paragraphs. The deaths felt like such an afterthought to get back to the relationship.

Still, I am excited to see more from Vera's side.
