So.

Ahem.

To be fair I am hovering between the two and three stars, and because I’m in a good mood right now I’ll give it 2.5 stars.
Wow, I really do sound like that old guy from the movie ratatouille, you know, the one who gives the stars and stuff to the restaurant.
Anyways, I am drifting away from the topic.

I didn’t finish it. That’s also on me, yes, I know, how can I rate a book I haven’t really finished. Just hear me out.

The basic idea?
Cool.
The way it’s written?
Surprisingly good.

But then at some points I was a bit bored if I’m being honest.

And I’m a little scared of giving a bad review, since book is about a woman-an author to be precise- who has a stalker she doesn’t know yet about. She also has a ‘friend’, who tends to leave bad reviews and comments under her books and writes books of her own, but is accused of plagiarism. She reportedly cheated on her boyfriend too, but I haven’t come as far, that I could confirm it. Everything leads up the stalker killing her.

And before I continue talking about the lady, I would like to point out that our beloved stalker is very well written.
(Pls don’t kill me, I don’t want to leave a bad reviews under this book without saying anything. The author seems to dislike this A LOT, not hard to miss, thanks, yes, I got it, don’t yell at me)
I would even go as far and say, he’s not even romanticised, which is very concerning in some other books I read by other authors, *Cough, cough.*
He’s very convinced that what he’s doing is right and as a reader you’re in the “he has a fascinating view on the world” and not in the “he’s so cute” state, if that made any sense.
And that’s good.
Really, I mean that and the author is rather talented in showing the depths of insanity (poetic much) and his characteristics, without revealing too much about his past yet.

While it’s cool to be able to write very deep emotions and inner monologues, it made the book feel a bit slower and therefore the slight creep and chill you might expect from a book like this suffered.
If combined with a quicker plot, something like that can become cool and haunting.

So.
To the lady we were talking about.
Questionable.
I don’t know if I’m the problem, but it always feels a bit strange to have an FMC with a best friend who betrays them for some reason. And the way its portrayed is what made me pause. It made it look, like jealousy was the sole reason for the betrayal, and that came across really forced.
“She’s such a horrible character, and then she did this, and that, and cheated and plagiarism, and the comments and the jealousy and ohhhhh she’s soooooo naiveeeeeee, do you hate her yet?”
Do you understand stand what I mean?
A bit too much trying to make her the bad guy here without giving her some depth.
And then later when the stalker lured her to the warehouse-to kill her I presume, again, this is only my impression of the book to a certain point-it felt like it was a bit too harsh. I get that he’s a ‘kill first ask questions later’ guy, but still, it just didn’t feel right.
Almost a bit like pushing the stereotype of women being jealous with each other and then projecting a villain arc onto her.
Again, this is just the vibe I get from reading this.
(Yes, seriously scared someone will come for me after writing this review)
I shook my head when she met up with the stalker after he set up a trap and everything and called her “oh so naive” for stepping into it. Yes, yes, character and stuff.
Overall, it just felt too much and too forced with too little depth.

Freakin’ long review once again.
Conclusion?
Writing was nice though too slow for my taste.
The bad guys and girls are allowed to have a deeper motive than jealousy and just not being a cool person.
Yeah.
