Of all the bakeries, in all the realm, the monstrous mothman assassin has to walk into mine...
Giving up my life in order to enter the Yeavering instead of my sister wasn't the best decision I've ever made. Ending up running a bakery with a witch wasn't on the cards either, but here I am, covered in flour and sweat, loving every second.
Except for the fact I'm sure I'm being watched. In my dreams I see a pair of blood red eyes, a handsome face, a huge muscular body and vast wings, before waking with a start to find...
Nothing.
The Yeavering is filled with monsters of one kind or another, but when the bell rings on the shop door and I answer, only to find one of the biggest and most dangerous of all monsters inspecting a sticky bun, I sense trouble.
When he lifts his head and I see the red eyes. I know I'm in trouble. He's the monster of my nightmares, a Bluecap, a mothman assassin, and Linton has come for me...
I watch, it's what I do. Other than kill without mercy. That's the other thing I do. I'm good at it. Very good.
I've watched the little human female for a long time. She's my next mark. Someone wants her dead, and they paid me well. But I don't want her dead. I want her to be my mate. So I break a habit of a lifetime.
And I keep her.
This little female belongs to me now. I don't care who comes for her. I will kill them all and leave nothing but the scorched earth of the Yeavering behind.
Enemies to lovers Forced proximity Fated mates He falls first and HARD Feral but not for her Touch her and die Cinnamon roll but stabby MMC And so much more...
The Knowing is the third book in the Monsters of the Yeavering Series from USA TODAY Bestselling Author Hattie Jacks. Based on the myths and monsters of her beloved Northumberland and the North of England, The Knowing is packed with monstrous fun and spicy times. For mature audiences.
I'm utterly addicted to this series! Hattie Jacks does a perfect blend of romance, lore, spice and the most delicious humor. Lindon, the mothman assassin is exasperating, chaotic, dangerous, but also lost ,lonely and so sweet for Kaitlyn. She's to be his mark but turns to be his beloved mate. But ,as everything in the Yeavering, danger lurks in the shadows with enemies plotting. A well written story with a rich, imaginative and complex plot that kept me engrossed until the last word. Highly recomend this book and the series!
I really enjoyed the first half of this book and how chaotic Linton was. But about halfway through plot holes and inconsistencies started showing up, like the MCs “realizing” what the antagonist wanted from Kaitlin several separate times.
Spice: 3/5
Triggers: violence, gore, battle, death, pregnancy, kidnapping, stalking, mind control/alteration, genocide (past), speciesism, past attempted SA, threat of SA, PTSD, night terrors, past war, threat of loss of soul
4.5 stars I just adore the monsters of the Yeavering. Hattie Jacks is so good at writing killing machines that are sweet, vulnerable, and innocent. Such a contradiction shouldn’t be possible, but it just works.
In this entry, we meet Linton, a Bluecap/Mothman who is sent to kill Kaitlyn, a human he hasn’t been able to stop watching since she first entered his sight. He’s supposed to eliminate her, but his spicket is completely against that idea. So instead, he decides to keep her—keep her safe, and keep her with him… forever.
Kaitlyn sacrificed herself for her sister and is now a baker in the fae realm trying her best to be happy. She’s survived a lot, and the sensation of being watched tells her there’s still more to come. So when danger finds her, she’s happy to learn she’s no longer alone, she now has a Mothman willing to love her and even die for her.
This book made me laugh a lot. Linton's awakening is eye-opening. So, if you’re looking for a super sweet monster that loves taking care of his human mate, this story is a must-read.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I’m leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you to the author and BookFunnel for this eARC.
This book is absolutely hilarious, Linton is an absolute chef kiss of weirdness and had me laughing the whole throughout the book.
First up is our FMC Kaitlyn, works at a busy bakery. And has the purest soul in all the beavering.
Lindon the cryptic motorman. “friend” of the Reavely the Berghast and the Fanrother the Wyrm. Who has his memories scrambled.
I am also happy that we get to see Reavely, Warden, and Fanrother again, the rag tag group of men are always good for a laugh as well.
Also loved the little myth facts at the end. Love learning new things about mythology.
Tropes: - Human Baker - Mothman/ Blue Cap Assassin - Concent - his appendage is a “Spicket” - Virgin MMC - Breeding - Claspers that latch - pregnancy towards end - kid - napping - Mysteries - Deceit -
I am really enjoying this series. Humans pulled into another “mythical realm” and caught up in the ongoing power struggle made for a great setting and overarching plot. I think it was the wonderfully rich descriptions of all of the otherworldly characters and situations that brought the story to life for me. This plus the lighthearted banter between Linton and Kaitlyn made me smile. Oh, and let’s not forget the never ending spicket references….
I received an ARC and voluntarily am sharing my honest review.
Absolutely addicted to this series. This book was an absolute delight to read. The storyline was solid, the world building was great and the characters were just to die for. *swoon*
Monsters of the Yeavering Series : ✅ 1. The Longing: A Fantasy Monster Romance (June 5, 2025) - 4 🐲🐲🐲🐲 Dragon Stars FENROTHER and ALICE - 🥰👍 I enjoyed the start of the new series. It's mysterious, has a well-constructed universe, and has a good dose of humor, which I love. Perhaps most of all, the main dragon character's "obliviousness" and his lack of inhibition in expressing his thoughts was refreshingly funny. ✅ 2. The Howling: A Fantasy Monster Romance (August 7, 2025) - 4 🐺🐺🐺🐺 REAVELY and WYNETER I like this world and the characters more and more. I can't wait for the next part 🤩👍 ✅ 3. The Knowing: A Fantasy Monster Romance (Expected publication November 13, 2025) - 5 🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋 KAITHLYN and LINTON - He was so funny, no filters in what he said, I love their banter and that Kat was behind him so much. They fit together completely 🥰 ❌ 4. The Watching : A Fantasy Monster Romance - WARDEN and HAZEL -
🖤 “You are the light, the flame, the moon, and the darkness. You have all of me, wings, scales, antennae.” ~~~ Kaitlyn is amazing! She’s kind, compassionate and empathetic. Even more, I loved her courage and resilience - the Yeavering is not a place for a human woman and, yet, she’s learned to survive there. And I truly loved her ability to see beyond the appearance of the monsters and see the good (and bad) in them. Kaitlyn is a wonderful woman and I loved her so, so much!
And then, there’s Linton - the vampire mothman assassin (ain’t that a mouthful)! Linton is dangerous, deadly, resourceful, possessive and fiercely protective. Even more, he’s pretty weird, chaotic and has zero filter. More often than not, Linton appears to be mostly vibes and not many thoughts, but that just makes him even more charming and irresistible. Deep down he might be a lost and lonely male but he’s observant, considerate and utterly lovable, too. Linton is an incredible male and I couldn’t help but adore every single thing about this unintentionally funny and slightly unhinged Bluecap!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Kaitlyn and Linton! After being freed from a Faerie Lord, Kaitlyn spends her days working in a bakery. But she’s being watched by a lethal and stealthy being until… he decides to take her for himself. I adored Kaitlyn and Linton together! Their chemistry was sizzling from the start and I loved their banters. Even more, their differences made every moment they spent together a true delight to read. And the spice… oh, it was SPICING and I couldn’t get enough of the passionate moments they shared. Linton and Kaitlyn were so perfect for each other and, after everything both went through, they more than deserved to find happiness and love together.
Overall, The Knowing is another absolutely fantastic addition to the series! It’s filled with danger, suspense, action, twists, humor, drama, passion and spectacular characters.
I couldn’t put it down and absolutely loved every single page of it! And I cannot wait to see what will happen next in the Yeavering!
💜💜She started out as his Mark but ended up as his Mate 💜💜💜
The Knowing by @hattie.jacks is the third book of Monsters of the Yeavering. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
This is Kaitlyn and Linton’s story.
Kaitlyn has this feeling someone is watching her and this someone ended up being a Bluecap assassin who is tasked to bring her back to the Faerie Lord.
After Linton kidnaps Kaitlyn, he wants to keep her for himself, she’s his female. He will do anything to protect her and to keep her safe. He claims her.
Bluecaps were meant to bring light and life to the yeavering not death but the Faeries forced them to fight a war that wasn’t theirs.
Kaitlyn can’t decide if he’s creepy or cute but in the end she falls in love with him, she puts her trust in him something she hadn’t done in a long time.So much so that when the Faerie Lord was chasing them, she trusted Linton to look after her - any decision he made to keep them safe.
He becomes important to her, he becomes her everything.
When Kaitlyn is in danger. Linton would happily sacrifice his life for her but she will not give him up without a fight.
“I would lay down my life for you my Kaitlyn”
The Faries portrayed here are not the ones we see in fairytales they are rotting, fowl and twisted.
I really enjoyed the banter between Linton and Warden, especially because Linton speaks whatever comes into his head he has no filter especially when it comes to him talking about him mating with Kaitlyn 😂
I loved the story, the characters I really enjoyed reading this book.
“I lost my soul, but I found it again with you” Linton
Kaitlyn, our fmc, gets kidnapped /saved by our mmc Linton. Why does he do it? No clue, all he tells Kaitlyn at first is that he wants her. So that's where their journey begins!
Kaitlyn isn’t whining , which I loved about her and she's very good with quick thinking. Which I appreciated in her situations!
Linton is an assassin and he's the best at his job, but there's another side to him. He's weirdly adorable! I just wanted to cuddle him most of the book! There were a lot of things he didn't understand, but that didn't stop him from caring for Kaitlyn. Her safety, her happiness, and his feeding were the most important things to him! Well, another thing gets added, but that I'll leave y'all to figure out. Hint, he asks for it as much as he asks to feed lol.
Anyway, I also loved the side characters you meet, like the Warden and the Monks. I thought they were very interesting and it was cool learning a bit about them.
The only thing I didn't like was the jumps in the book. I don't want to spoil anything so I won't say much, but there's a jump that really confused me. There were so many really interesting things going on, in the midst of battle, and then everything is ok. Everyone is safe and that’s it. I had to reread the page about three times before just giving up and accepting it. I wished there was more information on what happened instead of, “oh we’re ok now”. That whole situation just left me unsatisfied.
Other than that, I enjoyed the story and the characters. A very interesting read!
I absolutely loved returning to the world of the Monsters of the Yeavering series with The Knowing. Hattie Jacks has such a gift for mixing dark fantasy, slow-burn romance, and heart-stopping tension in a way that feels completely immersive. Kaitlyn and Linton’s story pulled me in right from the first chapter. The setting felt rich and moody, the mythology keeps expanding in such an exciting way, and there were so many moments that made me grin, swoon, or hold my breath.
Linton might just be one of my favorite monsters yet. I adored how his rough edges hid such surprising tenderness, and Kaitlyn’s strength and wit made her easy to root for. Their connection grew beautifully, with equal parts danger, sweetness, and spark. The pacing, the worldbuilding, and the little ties to earlier books made this feel like a real treat for longtime fans.
I have adored this series from the start, and this installment is right on the heels of the first book, which remains my favorite. If you love emotional monster romance with depth and a touch of eerie charm, this one will make you very happy.
I received an advance reader copy from the author and am sharing my honest review.
Oh my gosh, this is the cutest couple I’ve ever seen in this series! I honestly thought things couldn’t get any better with each book, but I was totally wrong. I’ve fallen head over heels for Fenrother, Reavely, and now Linton. My heart is just bursting with love for the Monsters of the Yeavering!
Linton is such a riot! I love how he’s so upfront about his feelings. He’s not afraid to share his affections for Kaitlyn, even with the people he calls friends. And you know what? He’s totally on board with the idea of finding a mate, not at all shy about it.
Kaitlyn is such a pure and sweet soul! I was so happy that she didn’t turn on Linton. She let him be himself and stood up for him too! She truly embraced him for who he is. A real light in his darkness. Plus, I loved that they weren’t fighting the mate bond. Once it was confirmed, she didn’t reject him because of what he’s done or who he is.
If you’re a fan of a hot VRGIN MMC who’s also a bit of a mouthy tease, Linton is definitely your guy! And hey, if you’re into those steamy moments where he’s 💦 in his pants, you’re welcome. Eat up!
You will fall in love with this vampiric mothman assassin!
Linton is a dangerous assassin, yet he's completely transparent and says whatever he thinks, often leading to laugh-out-loud moments. Beneath his dangerous exterior, Linton is a lost and lonely soul. His devotion to Kaitlyn is immediate and absolute, and the contrast between his feral nature and his sweet, protective nesting instincts for his mate is completely adorable.
The chemistry between Linton and Kaitlyn is sizzling. Her kindness, compassion, and empathy help her to quickly see past the dangerous exterior to see the damaged male underneath.
Perfect for readers looking for a monster romance with a possessive, dangerous hero who is also unexpectedly funny and devoted, along with a complex plot and world-building with rich, imaginative lore. I truly love this series and highly recommend starting with book one to get the full experience!
4.5/5 ⭐️s 🌶️🌶️1/4 - a little more than medium spice, many explicit scenes
LOVES: - Kaitlyn had no fear. She took every new thing in stride and with empathy along the way. Plus, she took no shit and made sure she got what she wanted. I appreciated her as an FMC. - The “innocence” or lack of knowledge about sexual things, and basically everything else too, never fails to crack me up. Linton was adorably clueless and it was sweet that Kaitlyn liked it 😊 - The innkeepers got me 🥰 they kind of acted like doting parents. They knew that Linton was more than the “evil” people had come to believe he was. - The “good boy”s 😏
The conclusion of the conflict left me wanting a bit, but overall, this book was so fun. Again, I’m loving how Hattie took inspiration from lore and legends of her home area. I couldn’t be more ready for the Warden’s story and the mystery of what happened to Kaitlyn’s sister.
Thanks to the author for the advance copy 💝 Releases November 6th!
I have absolutely loved reading this series so far, and I am looking forward to reading more in the series. This story is about Linton, who is a Bluecap/Mothman who has been sent to assassinate Kaitlyn, a human he hasn’t been able to stop watching since he was assigned to get rid of her. He has been watching her closely in the bakery, watching her, make her sweet treats for the witches and warlocks. He is also a sort of friend to Reavely the Berghast and the Fanrother the Wyrm. Kaitlyn has gone through an awful lot since she took her sister’s place in the Yeavering. I enjoyed the banter between these two characters, and how their relationship developed. The chemistry between Linton and Kaitlyn is sizzling hot and how Linton and Kaitlyn find happiness together and go on to have their happily ever after.
I was given an advanced copy of this book to read and I am reviewing with my honest and fair opinion.
I will never read another Hattie Jacks book again. Please let me remember this. It’s my 4th book I’ve DNF by this author so I hope I learn this time.
It’s really poor writing and the first person present is really jarring and feels like and then I am doing this and then that and then this. And I’ve never had an issue in the past but it’s bad here. There isn’t a basic level of technical skill here. It’s not an author with their first few books I’ve been pretty consistent in my DNF.
The plotting and pacing are both poorly done. The characters are weird and just accepting these weird dynamics in a half hearted and completely unbelievable way. I read plenty of ridiculous books and this isn’t that.
It’s just bad! I’m sorry but you’d think after being such a prolific writer they’d have figured some of this out at least at a basic level. It’s a shame bc there’s a lot of potential and I can see how it could be quite funny and ridiculous in a great way. But it’s not that here.
I wasn’t sure just how Hattie was going to deal with Linton since he didn’t come across as a really strong character in the first two books but after reading “The Knowing” I think he’s probably my favorite character thus far. I love his sweet goofy dopiness combined with his ability to be a total badass. It gave his character a strength and visibility that belied the fact that he was part moth. As usual Hattie’s Brit style tongue-in-cheek droll deadpan humor had me chuckling out loud at times as it has been with all her books. Linton definitely does not disappoint in that regard. As for Kaitlyn, she did he duty as straight man for Linton. She was sweet, understanding and accepting of Linton’s issues and while trying to keep his chaotic nature somewhat under control managed to make him even more amusing, lol! Overall a very lighthearted enjoyable read.
Linton is the cutest chaos mothman, I'm absolutely smitten with him, crazy assassin tendencies and all! Of course there is much more depth to his story than just that sentence, so don't let his silly tendencies fool you... "My Kaitlyn" is no different, as a mere human, she may be his target... But like a moth to flame, even Linton soon discovers that the hearth fuels the life of all true homes.
Full of a vast world, and epic characters, Hattie created a great story full of banter, love, spice, adventure, and growth. I look forward to catching the story's of the other characters in the book!
Tropes included but not limited to Monster love- Bluecap(aka Mothman) x Human Romantasy Instalove Stalker/Assassin Touch her and d!e Breeding k!nk Golden Retriever vibes
This is a fab addition to the series, filled with a wonderful blend of romance, humour, lore and spice. I loved Lindon. He may be a mothman and an assassin, but he’s also charming, lonely and rather unhinged ;P Kaitlyn is now a baker and has been having dreams of being watched by a being with red eyes, but she’s also kind and compassionate. These two have great chemistry and fun banter. I love how protective he was of her and how her kindness really let her see past the lethal assassin everyone else saw. Expect to be fully engaged in this romance with action, drama, danger, suspense, twists and steam that ends in a fab HEA. I loved this one, and the rest of the series, and I definitely recommend :D
Linton. I loved his simplistic way of life, of his logic and the way he sees the world. He didn't seem to have a filter when it came to talking . I felt sorry for him when it came to his "friends" Because he was such a good assassin no one trusted him or wanted to really associate with him. But when he needed help they did come. I liked Kaitlyn. I loved the surprises wrapped around her. The twists . Loved her patience with Linton. Be aware that this in British English, so some of the words may seem off but aren't. I loved the splashes of humor. The fast paced action throughout. And of course there is steam to the eventual romance. The HEA for them was what it should be, perfect. I received a free copy of the book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving my review.
He is a Bluecap basically a vampire mothman. He has wings, antennae, fangs, drinks blood, and is very good with knives. She is human and likes to bake.
The hero is very funny. He says whatever he thinks.
He likes to talk about breeding her and having kids together.
They have steamy times together.
He decides to protect her after he was hired to kidnap her and bring her to the bad guy Tam Lin. He spent time spying on her and decides to keep her for himself.
I've enjoyed all of the books in this series so far. I received an advance reader copy. This is my honest review.
My rating system: ☆ Bad ☆☆ Okay ☆☆☆ Good ☆☆☆☆ Great ☆☆☆☆☆ Excellent
*ARC Review*
I enjoyed this book, it was a fun read. The characters were cute - if you love a cinnamon roll MMC this one if for you! Lovers of monster spice will also enjoy this one - 🌶🌶🌶
I found the writing style occasionally took me out of the scene, and the pacing was a bit off at times (some of my issues may be due to reading this up without having read the first 2 in the series)
First, I feel so seen seeing a FMC with the same spelling as my name! 😂 better yet, Shes so relatable! Girl just wants to bake.. and all Linton wants to do is mate, but she’s not complaining lol
I loveeee the world building in this series of standalones. They interconnect but not at a vital level at all to enjoy each couple!
This story is such a cozy fantasy vibe!
M/F Mothman x human He ✨mildly✨stalks her Those antennas are mighty sensitive 👀 Virgin MMC He falls first with BIG touch her and ☠️ vibes Venom to help make “it” fit
“All I know, all I’ll ever know is the first time I saw you, I knew you were mine. My fate, my destiny, my life and light. Nothing has changed, no matter what Tam Lin said or did, no matter where I was. It was you. It was always you, my Kaitlyn.”
Kaitlyn enters the Yeavering when she swaps places in the lottery to protect her sister Hazel - and that already tells you everything you need to know about her. She’s brave, selfless, stubborn, and determined to find a way to stop the human lottery once and for all. Her strength quietly carries the entire story.
And then there’s Linton.
A mothman vampire assassin. Chaotic. Weird. Ferally protective. Unintentionally hilarious. And that’s without even mentioning the knickers eating situation!
He’s one of those characters who shouldn’t work on paper, but in Hattie Jacks’ hands, he becomes unforgettable. Linton is messy and damaged, but he loves Kaitlyn with a bone-deep certainty that hits you right in the chest.
If The Longing was aching yearning and The Howling was primal hunger, then The Knowing is the emotional payoff…
The chemistry between Kaitlyn and Linton is intense, tender, and so beautifully written that you feel their connection long before they do. The world-building is deeper, the stakes higher, and the emotional weight heavier - but in the best, most satisfying way.
My Verdict: I absolutely adored every chaotic, heartfelt, destiny-soaked moment of this. Linton and Kaitlyn own me completely. I laughed and snorted, I cried and cheered…I just loved this one so much! Also, side note; As Hattie has based The Monsters of the Yeavering on myths and lore from Northern England, these stories have encouraged me to look up the folklore of The Lambton Wrym, The Barghest, The Bluecap Spirit and The Brag…I can’t wait for that story (Hazel and Warden)
Linton and Kaitlyn’s story did NOT disappoint. He was such a direct and non nonsense character - I loved that he didn’t have a filter! He said what he thought and was unashamed of his inexperience. Kaitlyn was a sweetheart and her back story was really complicated. It explained so much. I loved the mythology behind the stories in this series; it adds such a niêu and interesting layer to the stories. I happily and voluntarily reviewed this book.
Like all of Hattie’s books, I loved the story and her characters. I had a feeling going in that I’d love Linton and there were parts of this book where I caught myself laughing out loud. The storyline was interesting as was the author adding in her local lore. Can’t wait for the next one and see where the story leads.
The Knowing by Hattie Jacks is part of the Monsters of the Reavering, stories based on North England lore. Bluecap mothman Linton has been sent to kidnap human Kaitlyn for a fae who wants to use her to get more power from the underworld, but Linton claims her as his mate instead. I love these entertaining and educational stories that also bring the steam!
What a ride this was. Linton is such a sweetheart for his female, yet he enjoys a bit of killing too (but mostly to protect his female now!) Not looking for love, it finds her when the dangerous bluecap *saves* her and kidnaps her at the same time. Love, fate, it works in mysterious ways.
I fell in love with Hattie's work when I read the first of this series. Now, each one adds to the mystery and excitement of the Yeavering. It pulls you in and the characters are so well thought out.
So far this series has been hit and miss. The first book was ok. The second one I absolutely devoured. This third one initially struck me as childish. Linton did however develop into an amazing character that really highlighted in the story. I would definitely give this book a chance!
