When he stepped in to help out a city girl, no one expected a “pretend” rescue would lead to something real.
When Glory McCallahan’s cousin moved to Hoker, Kentucky, she felt like she’d lost her best friend. Then, Callie fell in love. To help with wedding arrangements, Glory joins her, but after, the plan is to get back to her perfectly ordered life. Glory has always played it safe, keeping her polished smile in place and her heart on lockdown. No way is she going to let the rugged, too-handsome younger brother of her cousin’s new husband mess with her plans. No matter how infuriating, irreverent, and impossible to ignore Kam may be.
Kam Norwood sees past Glory’s flawless surface, and when he notices she’s being accosted by a wedding guest, he gallantly steps in. What starts as a pretend rescue turns into a night of unexpected sparks. Kam’s not afraid of Glory’s sharp edges—or her secrets. So when the rejected guest turns out to be Glory’s angry ex and things escalate, Kam’s protective instincts kick in big-time.
Turns out, the sizzling attraction may be the one thing that can keep them both safe.

I really enjoyed the underlying suspense woven throughout this story, especially the occasional chapters from the villain's point of view. They added an extra layer of tension that kept me wondering how everything would come together.
This can absolutely be read as a standalone, but I do wish I had read the first book to experience Callie's journey first. I think having that background would have made the overall experience even more rewarding.
And, of course, any book featuring a rescue animal is an automatic win in my eyes! The combination of romance, suspense, and lovable animals made this an enjoyable read from beginning to end.
I loved this story about two imperfect people finding each other. Everyone sees Glory as perfect, but she hides her flaws well. After losing her parents, she was raised by her aunt and uncle, with her aunt constantly correcting and ordering her around. Kam endured a rough childhood until Addie adopted him, giving him a sense of security for the first time. It took time for him to trust, but eventually he did. When Kam looks beyond the surface, he sees that Glory isn’t perfect—but she’s perfect for him. When a man she dated briefly tries to manipulate her, Kam steps in to protect her. The more time they spend together, the more they realize they belong with each other. Kam wants to always keep Glory safe, while she fears being a burden. Can Kam prove his love and show her he wants a life together?
I loved Callie and Tanner's story (book 1 in this series) and I was really hoping that Glory would get her story. I couldn't wait to read Glory and Kam's story! So many crazy twists before Glory and Kam could get their HEA - you have to read it for yourself! There are some triggers that might bother readers in this story, car accidents, physical violence, child abuse, abduction, stalker, etc. I didn't feel any of these triggers hurt the story and didn't bother me personally, hence the 5 star review. I seriously laughed out loud quite a few times while reading the story, just things that caught my funny bone. I really hope this series continues, there are so many people in Hoker that need their story told.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This review is based on an ARC from NetGalley, courtesy of the publisher.
Returning to Hoker, Kentucky for Book 2—Glory and Kam’s story—puts you right on the edge of your seat from page one. After meeting Glory (Callie’s cousin) and Kam (Tanner’s brother) in Let Me Be the One, this follow‑up dives deeper into their lives, their wounds, and the spark neither of them expected.
Glory has uprooted her life to be closer to Callie, shifting roles within her family’s company, buying a house, and trying to settle into a town that feels both comforting and unfamiliar. Beneath her polished exterior, she’s wrestling with old insecurities and the quiet fear that she may never be “enough” just as she is. Kam, meanwhile, is determined to prove his independence by moving into his own apartment and distancing himself from the shadows cast by his biological parents. Both carry scars from earlier tragedies, shaping their self‑doubt in ways that feel heartbreakingly real.
At first, Kam writes Glory off as a little too snooty—but that doesn’t stop him from watching her every chance he gets. And when danger creeps into Callie’s life in the form of a stalker who refuses to let go, Kam steps in without hesitation. Moving in with Glory for her safety forces them into close quarters, and their chemistry is undeniable. As they protect Callie, they slowly learn to trust each other, peeling back layers of fear, pride, and vulnerability.
This story has everything: love, danger, family, and a delightfully nosy neighbor, Glenda, who steals every scene she’s in. Add in PB (Peanut Butter), the newest four‑legged addition to the crew, and you’ve got a warm, lively cast that makes Hoker feel like home. The way the community rallies to support local kids adds even more heart, grounding the romance in something bigger than the couple themselves.
Glory and Kam’s journey is a beautiful blend of tension, tenderness, and triumph. Watching them fall in love while outside forces push against them makes this book impossible to put down. It’s a must‑read for anyone who loves stories where healing and connection grow hand‑in‑hand.
I received an advanced copy, and this is my honest review.
When I First Met You is the second book in Lori Foster's Family ties series, and while it was a good read, it wasn't one of her best, which is why I'm giving it a four-star review rather than a 5-star one.
Let me start with the triggers: off-screen adult and child abuse, deadly car accidents, a mad stalker, physical violence, attempted abduction, an unexpected pregnancy, and on-screen sex.
Glory and Kam first meet at Glory's cousin Callie's wedding to Kam's pseudo-brother, Tanner. Kam's first impression of her is that she's too perfectly groomed, and stuck up, yet he can't take his eyes off her. Both Kam and Glory and one thing in common--both sets of their parents died in auto accidents when they were much younger.
Since Kam and Glory served as best man and maid of honor at the wedding hall, they are the last to leave, only to be met with both their cars having multiple flat tires, apparently caused by Mike, a man Glory dated 3 times before dropping him, only Mike doesn't seem to take no for an answer and is now actively stalking her..
Mike's obsession with Glory causes her to have yet another near fatal car accident, which is when Kam acts of his attraction and becomes her live-in caregiver. Their relationship slowly develops into more, adding fuel to Glory's stalker obsession with making her his, whether she likes it or not.
The suspense slowly builds as does Glory's relationship with Kam, Kam's adopted family, and Glory's uber--critical Aunt Liz. There are lots of warm feels throughout. Yet if ever a novel needed an epilogue, it's this novel. yes, there's the expected HEA ending, but it didn't go far enough into the future of suit this reader.
All in all, When I First Met You is an entertaining and suspenseful read, but not a perfect one, which is something I usually expect from any Lori Foster novel.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy from Netgalley. The opinions stated herein are my own.
When I First Met You by Lori Foster Family Ties #2
~ Wonderful way to spend the day ~ Loved Glory & Kam as people that were also perfect together ~
What I liked: * Glory McCallahan: orphaned young, raised by her wealthy aunt and uncle, strong, survivor, bright, empathetic, hard worker, wealthy, insecure, pleaser, giving, Callie’s cousin/close as a sister/BFF * Kam Norwood: abused as a child, taken in by Addie, welder, works with children at risk, attractive, outgoing, caring, kind, has a plan, nothing like his parents, * The way Kam stepped up to help Glory after the wedding, the way the first impressions Kam and Glory had of one another changed, and watching their relationship grow * Addie: widowed too young, took in Kam and Tanner and raised them, wonderful cook, nurturing, accepting, caring, friendly, someone I’d want for a friend * Catching up with Tanner and Callie on their wedding day * Glenda: Glory’s neighbor, a bit of a snoop, a surprisingly wonderful person * The way Callie’s mother/Aunt Liz to Glory began to change and how much she grew on me * PB: a homeless dog that caused an accident but ended up in the a warm loving home * The youth that Tanner and Kam were helping and wondering if we will see more of Nell & Liam, Kirby & his sister, or any others in the future * The stepfather who was there for two at risk children * The plot, pacing, setting, and writing * All of it really except…
What I didn’t like: * Mike: obsessive, stalker, deranged, evil, murderous, creep that was a menace * Thinking about abuse and the impact it has * Having to say goodbye to Hoker, Kentucky and the wonderful people that live there
Did I like this book? Yes Would I read more by this author? Yes
Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins, and the author for the ARC – This is my honest review. 5 Stars
When I First Met You is the second book the in the Family Ties Series by Lori Foster. It takes place immediately where the first book in the series left off. While this is a stand-alone story with a different couple, all of the family members in the first book are featured in this one as well. The first book is not required reading for this one, but it is a great book so you should read it. This is a wonderful opposites-attract story about two people who are working hard to over come their pasts and find love and support in each other. Glory Mc Callahan loves her cousin Callie more than anything. They are more like sisters, since Callie’s parents stepped in and raised Glory after her parents died when she was eleven. This is why Glory finds herself buying a house and moving to Hoker, Kentucky to be near Callie. Despite her outward appearances, Glory is insecure. Initially, she was completely misunderstood by local heart breaker Kam Norwood. As Kam gets to know Glory, he begins to see past her defenses and sees the person she is hiding beneath all her layers. While Kam is far from insecure, he needs to decide if he is willing to open his heart up to Glory to have his dream of a home and family. I have been waiting for this book since I finished Let Me Be the One. I knew there was going to be more to Glory than what we met in the first book. I loved Kam as soon as we met him in book one and he just got better one every page. This is a wonderful found family story with such a sweet loving family. They face challenges together and come out stronger for it. I am not sure if there will be more books in this series but I can hope. I received an ARC for my honest review.
When I first met you is the second book in the Family Ties series by Lori Foster. In this new release we get reacquainted with Glory and Kam. This book does read as a standalone but character crossovers are present. You don't really need to know the previous characters but I highly advise you grab book one, Let me be the one, as it was another great read.
Glory has been raised by her aunt and uncle after her parents deaths and she has struggled with the demands they, especially her aunt, put upon her. Appearances must be kept, not a hair out of place, constant duties running her ragged. She doesn't know any other way of life. When her cousin/sister marries the man of her dreams, she sees how life can just spontaneously happen and wonders if she will ever find her happy ever after.
Kam had a hard childhood, but being adopted by Addie and being raised alongside Tanner has him forging a new path for himself. He is confused by his attraction to Glory, could be because she is his polar opposite and he is dying to see what she would be like if she would let herself be carefree and unburdened. When trouble finds Glory, he makes it his mission to stand by her side, attraction be damned for the minute.
Glory and Kam find themselves fighting both their attraction for one another, and the growing threat of an ex that won't take no for an answer. The story turns and weaves through both their relationship blooming to their families and learning more about why they are how they are. The story brings the small town to the forefront with showing just how much relationships and knowing your neighbors helps us all be better human beings.
Oh I loved Glory and Kam.. When Kam's brother Tanner married Callie he was a happy guy.. There is something about Callie's sister Glory that gets to him.. Glory has helped plan her sister cousins wedding a d make sure it all runs perfect. Glory knows Tanner's brother dislikes her but she can't figure out why. When leaving the venue late, Glory finds a guy she dated waiting by her car with flat tires. Glory is upset when Mike offers a ride. Kam steps into the picture and lets Mike know they have a ride already. Things happen like the friend who gave them a ride home was in a car accident. Kam ends up staying with Glory as her window had been broken. Mike keeps being around and bad things happen.. her in a car wreck and hitting a tree. Kam is protective and stays close to Glory. He finds quickly she is more than the fancy clothes and makeup. Kam and Glory end up being together all the time as she her body heels and also gets a abandoned puppy name PB- Peanut Butter. Glory is in love as is has dog- ter. When Mike threatens again, Kam, Tanner, Callie and Addie are there as her family and will protect her. Even nosy neighbor Mrs Simmons becomes a great person involved in Kam and Glory's journey. After Glory professes her love and gives Kam a shock of a lifetime, these two were built to fight for love and the good of others.
It was after the wedding that Glory McCallahan looked toward the future knowing that now that Callie is married, she might be losing her cousin, her sister, her best friend. True they live in the same town but now in separate spaces. As she wandered around the reception floor doing things for her aunt and uncle to help wrap up the wedding. Glory began to realize that she had her eyes on Kam Norwood. He was the best man as she was the maid of honor. He seemed to be following her or was that just in her mind, hoping so. When she left the empty hall with all picked up she walked out to the parking area finding just two cars - hers and someone she had no chance of fleeing. There was Mike, again… following her, insisting he should give her a ride home. Her car had flat tires. When I First Met You will be published on July 14, 2026 by MIRA books. I was able to read and review Foster’s latest novel via NetGalley. As always it was entertaining yet included more spice than usual for her romantic fiction. It does however have a creepy tale involving Mike, rather frightening as the story flows on. It is very well written and has a different type of style. I am impressed with the suspenseful story-line, an excellent novel. Don’t miss it!
I loved the first book about Tanner and Callie, and that’s where we first met this story’s stars: Kam and Glory. Kam is Tanner’s younger brother, and Glory is Callie’s cousin/sister. One of the best parts of these books is how familiar characters like Addie, Liam, and Nell return in secondary but important roles. Addie shines as the guiding light of the group, offering motherly love, wisdom, and gentle lessons. Liam and Nell play a smaller part, but they help show the growth happening within the troubled kids program that was central to Callie and Tanner’s story — and Glory and Kam are tied into that world too.
Kam and Glory actually disliked each other at first, which makes their turn all the more satisfying. Everything shifts at Callie and Tanner’s wedding, when Mike shows up and starts to feel like a real threat to Glory — and Kam steps in as the new man in her life. From there, both of them have their own personal demons to work through. Each had a rough childhood, yet each found a family that taught them love, goodness, and respect. The best part of this story is watching Kam grow into the good man everyone in Hoker, KY, already believes him to be, while Glory grows into a confident, authentic version of herself.
I’m happy to return to Hoker, KY in the 2nd book in this series. In book one (Let Me Be the One) we met Glory, Callie’s cousin, and this is her and Kam’s story. This book had me on the edge of my seat and was very hard to put down. I enjoyed watching how Kam would continue to try and be the hero to Glory while she pushed him away. They just kept getting closer. Both Glory and Kam suffered losses in their lives that helped shape who they are, and they realized they had more in common than they thought. Their losses made them question their self-worth and whether they were worthy of each other. With help from the gang, Tanner, Callie and Addie, Glory and Kam were able to learn to trust each other and allow themselves to fall in love, even when outside forces were trying to stop them. This story has it all, a bit of danger and just the right amount of steam. It wouldn’t be Lori if she didn’t add in an adorable new pet. I love PB (Peanut Butter)! It was great to see the continued storyline of Tanner and Kam helping the kids and getting the town involved as well. There were some surprises on their journey along with nail biting. I couldn’t devour this book fast enough! A must read! I received an advanced copy and this is my honest and unsolicited opinion.
To their families (well, most members of their families), Glory McCallahan and Kam Norwood are amazing individuals. Now they just have to stop listening to “certain” other(s) of those family members, break out of the molds living in their heads, and open up to just how good they really are. They are good for everyone around them; they are great for each other. Their story is all about their journey to get there.
There’s humor, there’s mystery, there is a stalker…and there is love. Glory and Kam are so good together, so sweet and perfect, and even made me laugh. The characters made themselves laugh, too! Glory is cousin to Callie. When the book opens, Callie is marrying Tanner (brother to Kam) – they are SO in love! Carrie’s parents – “Aunt Liz” and “Uncle Frank” to Glory – are, let’s call them an “acquired” taste! It’s one of the mysteries in this story why they are like this. Addie is Tanner’s and Kam’s adoptive Mom. Not only is she amazingly sweet but she is also a calming influence throughout.
Glory’s and Kam’s story was a great read, with lots of ups and downs and laughs and tears. And I can’t forget about PB – a furry hero if there ever was one! Recommend this story, hands down.
When Kam sees Glory getting harassed by a guy after her cousin's wedding, he naturally steps in to help. A broken window at her house has his protective instincts on high alert and before either of them know it, he's sleeping in her guest room. Glory's stalker escalates the danger she's in, but also speeds up what was probably inevitable: the sparks between Kam and Glory turn into a full-on relationship. But both have serious insecurities from their past that they need to deal with before they can figure out whether the relationship they want is the one they can have.
This is book 2 in a series. I haven't read book 1 yet but still enjoyed this one, and never felt like I had missed anything I needed for this book. Glory and Kam both felt like real, well-rounded people; each dealing with personal insecurities they never let others see and feeling like they needed to be perfect or prove things to themselves or others before they had earned want they wanted. And the great people around them pushing them to understand that isn't how love or true family works.
A good read, excellent chemistry between Kam and Glory.
I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
When I First Met You is the second book in Lori Foster's Family Ties series. It is a romantic suspense involving Kam and Glory. The story begins with the wedding of Tanner (Kam's brother) and Callie (Glory's cousin). Kam is the best man, and Glory is the maid of honor.
Kam and Glory both had a rough start in life. They both lost their parents at a young age. There has always been a connection between Glory and Kam, but they both tried their best to deny it.
After Tanner and Callie's wedding, Mike, a guy who Glory dated a couple times, showed up. He obviously was obsessed with her. Kam and Glory pretended to be together to get rid of the guy. What happens instead is a series of events involving Mike, Glory, Kam, and many friends in the town of Hoker, KY. Kam becomes very protective of Glory.
I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. The story is so relatable. It felt like I was living in the story. I particularly loved the community that stood behind one another. They are a community of loving people who devoted themselves to helping others. This story is about facing challenges and overcoming them.
Lori Foster's books never disappoint; she is one of my favorite authors.
Foster's return to Hoker, Kentucky is heartfelt, emotional and just what her reader's have been waiting for! Our first visit to this quaint and welcoming town was when Tanner and Callie fell in love and let us all wrap their heartwarming love story around our hearts and fall hard for this town and family. This book picks up right after that one with the main characters being Tanner's brother Kam and Callie's cousin/like a sis Glory. We already had a head start of loving the town and the family, and we're quickly thrust into a bit of turmoil for Glory that Kam steps in to help her out with. Danger is lurking and has us on the edge of our seats as Kam proves he's a sincerely good guy and she can't help but fall for him too. The premise of the story is great, the characters are well developed and a joy to connect with and the love story is both sweet and passionate. I loved every minute of Glory and Kam!
I highly recommend this book and the prior book in the series to anyone who enjoys a small town romance with lots of heart, bits of mystery and angst and a whole lot of depth to the town around them. I recommend reading in order to fully get the enjoyment of the whole family history.
This is the second book in the series. Glory and Kam had me hooked. Glory is nothing like the person Kam was picturing in his head because she proves there is so much to her than her outer put together appearance. My heart goes out to her because her childhood and past has left scars on her in more ways than one. One of my favorite parts of this book is Glory's aunt. At the beginning I had the idea of where that was going, but I was so pleasantly surprised by that character. This book delivers on the heart and heat, but the suspenseful elements kept me on the edge of my seat. The one thing I was kind like reading through my fingers is when it came to Kirby. I wanted to know, but for some reason I was so nervous to see where that went. Glory is finally really just blooming, but her ex of three dates won't let her go without a scary fight. I loved how Kam is a safe space for Glory to just be herself not the image she feels like she has to perform to. Addie was just so great in this as she was in the previous book. A great cast of characters that make it hard to put this book down. I really love the work the bothers do for at risk kids. It's beautiful to see how much it helps those kids succeed in life. This was an enjoyable read.
We finally get to return to Hoker, Kentucky and read Glory’s HEA!!!
We met Glory in book one, Let Me Be the One, when Glory comes to Hoker with her cousin Callie to help fix up an old farmhouse that was left to her. Glory stays in Hoker to be close to Callie, who is more like a sister to her than a cousin, and starts to settle into her new home.
Kam has always thought Glory was stuck up and perfect but can’t seem to keep his thoughts and eyes off her. It’s even harder to keep his eyes off of her and his brother’s wedding where Tanner is marrying Callie.
Someone else can’t keep his thoughts off of Glory and is more than determined to see to it that she is with him forever, willing or not. Kam moves in with Glory to keep her safe and their temporary situation becomes more than just protection as the danger ramps up.
This book was amazing as only Lori Foster can write! Her small town romances are always amazing as the situations both physically and emotionally are realistic and REAL. This story was so wonderful and relatable that I got sucked in from page one and it was hard to put down.
Where do you fall on the Goodreads reviews vs. your own review scale? I'm generally pretty close, if not often higher, but this one is likely for a different target audience. I always enjoy a romantic suspense, and being in the antagonists head at times was, well, not enjoyable, but added depth to the story. But I found the characters to be a bit like caricatures at times. The dialogue was a little forced, and didn't come across as real with some of the language. One thing that pulls me out of a book quickly is when the same description is used for something in close proximity - like within the same sentence or sentences right after one another. That happened a couple of times in this book. I think some of the romance and suspense will appeal to some readers. I did not enjoy this accidental pregnancy (in fairness, I wasn't aware it was coming) - I don't pick that trope from authors I don't already read and love, so it wasn't my favorite here. That being said, it was a quick read with a cute dog companion! Always grateful for the chance to read an ARC. Thanks to @htp_hive @htpbooks for this advanced copy.
When I First Met You is a great follow-up to Let Me Be the One. It’s a contemporary romance with a touch of suspense mixed in. Glory and Kam are the main characters, but Cassie, Tanner, Addie, and Liz still play prominent roles in the story.
I loved this book from beginning to end. It opens at Cassie and Tanner’s wedding reception, where Tanner and Glory are both fighting their growing attraction to each other—each convinced the other isn’t interested—yet they can’t stop stealing glances. Enter Mike. We learn that Glory went out with Mike three times, but he made her uncomfortable (there is just something off about Mike), so she refused any further invitations. Unfortunately, Mike believes Glory is his soulmate. After the reception, he’s waiting for her in the parking lot, where her car suspiciously has two flat tires. Coincidentally, Tanner’s car does too. Tanner steps in to help Glory escape the situation, and Dan, the venue owner, gives them a ride home.
From there, the story really takes off. It’s full of spice, heat, and suspense—and features an adorable little dog named PB. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it!
I have one word " sigh" a fantastic read! My heart is full and satisfied. This book is even better than the first one Let Me be the One. I was very happy to return to Hoker, Ky. I felt like I was at home again. The real Kentucky is my home that's why I was able to connect with this place. Foster is a fantastic storyteller that will draw you in from beginning until the end. I've long been a fan since the 90's and that's why I really wanted this book. The cover is simply gorgeous and so's the story inside. I really really enjoyed getting to know these characters. This is Glory and Kam's story. My heart was sad for Kam but I kept rooting for him. I loved this story for another reason. The slow burn romance. I was so happy that it wasn't an Insta romance or a last minute one. That's why I said " Sigh " at the beginning lol. I'm giving this story 5 stars for keeping me turning the pages to see what happens next. Thanks for the opportunity to read and review. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.
Kam’s brother is getting married to Glory’s sister, Callie. They have seen each other at events and Glory feels that Kam doesn’t like her, but he can’t keep his eyes off of her. Kam is always tracking her, but when someone Glory only went out on a few dates with, he cannot stay away. Kam is protective over Glory, he and Tanner come up with a plan to help protect her, and she is ok with it, but she has a couple rules.
I loved every minute with Glory and Kam. He helped heal all of her insecurities and pain from their childhoods. Their story was sweet, family oriented, and had some suspense. Their fun banter, chemistry, and respect they have for one another builds a beautiful relationship. While Kam never talks about his childhood, he felt comfortable talking to her, and I thought that it healed them both. I loved how Kam was there for her when she needed it no questions asked, and even helped Glory rescue a puppy. I really enjoyed this book, I could not put it down, and I am looking forward to what’s next in this series.
Glory McCallahan went to live with her well off aunt and uncle when she lost her parents at a young age . Her cousin Callie is like her sister so when Callie moves to Hoker, Kentucky and falls in love, Callie moves to be close to her. During Callie’s wedding reception Kam Norwood notices a man harassing Glory . A man she had dated three times and now feels entitled of her affection. Kam immediately goes to her rescue. Defending Glory came natural to Kam especially when he sees that underneath all the airs, Glory is a woman that is warm and worth knowing. As a relationship and trust develops, so do the treats from her ex. As these two learn to trust each other can they also stay safe? This is a story about family, overcoming fears of not being enough, overcoming the past and trusting one’s heart to someone else. The plot was engaging and the main characters as well as the secondary ones, were well developed. I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Glory McClannahan moved to Hoker, Kentucky to be closer to her cousin/sister Callie. Glory was raised with Callie after her parents died in a car crash. Glory was injured pretty bad and is ashamed of all her scars. Kam Norwood was raised in Hoker and lived with his foster mother and foster brother, Tanner who married Callie. Kam thought Glory was stuck up until he gets to know her. He saves Glory when a guy is harassing her after Callie’s wedding. She went out with him three times and he thinks she’s his. Kam moves in with her to protect her but ends up falling for her. Kam thought he’d never settle down until Glory. Glory is run off the road and injured badly. This gives Kam more of an excuse to continuing to stay with her. Can Kam break down the walls Glory has up around her heart?
Sort of enemies to lovers. Forced proximity. A cute little puppy. Nosy neighbor. Kam is handsome and extremely protective of his family. Glory let her aunt’s comments get to her. At first I thought the aunt was going to be a grade A witch. Steamy. I voluntarily read and reviewed this for Netgalley.
If suspense and good character backstories are your jam, then this read will appeal to you.
Lori Foster has dominated romance genre since the mid 1990s. There's a reason for that.
"When I First Met You" falls into her suspense, small town, brothers and friends niche. What readers will enjoy is that the backstories of her characters is full of obstacles (death, childhood trauma) that both her heroines AND heroes not just overcome but rise above their circumstances. Callie and Glory's bff/sister cousin found her love story in the first of the series. Now it's Glory's turn.
The Author establishes the banked attraction between Glory and Kam. The fixation the villain has for Glory threads the plot. At one point, the Reader is given a glimpse into the villain's mind that fed into the plot. This compels the Reader to continue reading to see the what direction the Author will pursue.
Thank you NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing | MIRA for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
✨ Thank you to Lori Foster, Harlequin Audio, and NetGalley for the ALC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. ✨
When I First Met You follows Glory McCallahan and Kam Norwood as their connection grows into a heartfelt love story. Glory carries deep wounds from her childhood and struggles to believe she’s ever good enough. Kam is captivated by Glory but initially assumes she’s a bit too stuck-up for him. When a situation turns unsafe, he steps in to help, and what follows is undeniable chemistry and a deep emotional connection.
Lori Foster’s ability to draw me into the worlds she creates never ceases to amaze me. With each new story, she delivers characters that feel genuine and easy to root for. Marni Penning was an excellent narrator choice, bringing each character to life with distinct, memorable performances.
Listen or read if you enjoy romances with an authentic love story, found family, and the perfect small-town setting.
This is the second book in the Family Ties series, but it can easily be read as a stand alone. Glory is in small town Hoker Kentucky for her cousin Callie’s wedding. And since Callie is happily married now to Tanner and staying in Hoker, Glory has decided to move there as well. As the wedding wraps up a troublesome ex turns up trying to cause trouble. So Glory turns to her cousin’s new brother in law Kam for help. Kam has always found Glory a little stuck up, but also gorgeous and difficult to keep his eyes off of. So when she asks him for help getting rid of a crazy ex, Kam is all too happy to play the part of her new boyfriend. As Kam and his family start to realize how serious the threat from this ex is, Kam decides to stay close to Glory to keep her safe. As the danger ramps up, Kam and Glory get closer and realize they are both so much more than the other person originally thought they were. A very sweet romance with a lot of character growth, and a very sweet animal thrown in. A beautiful small town love story. I received an ARC, and this is my honest review.
This book is about Kam and Glory. If you’ve read the first book in this series, you will remember Kam as Tanner’s brother and Glory as a cousin/sister to Callie. This book opens up with Tanner and Callie’s wedding, so although you don’t need to read the first book to enjoy this book, it would probably be less confusing if you had.
Kam has been watching Glory since she came to town (which happened during the first book). He has been trying to puzzle out the real Glory behind the facade – and you get to meet the real Glory in this book. You also get to know more about Kam, including his background and things about his childhood that make him struggle with connecting. Add in to that an unstable ex that won’t leave Glory alone and you have all the makings of a good story.
I liked this book. I enjoyed the first book of the series more, but this one still kept me engaged all the way through. I would recommend this book.
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book. This is my true and honest opinion.
I love Lori Foster's books and this one is another winner! Great plot and great characters. It's so much fun getting to know everyone and wonder how Lori does it! I just loved the chemistry between Glory and Kam and loved all the characters. Glory is leaving her cousins wedding when a person she dated 3 times showed up to take her home. Glory told him she wasn't interested and had a ride. When she saw Kam, the grooms brother, she asked him to help her. When he didn't respond at first she walked away mad. Kam then told the girl he was talking with, sorry but he had to go help. He realized the guy was bothering Glory so he put his arm around her. Then they both realized both their car tires were messed with and not drivable the event manager said he would take them home. The story has you pulled in at that point. This was so enjoyable.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC for my honest opinion.

Back in Hoker, Kentucky. This is book 2, but can definitely be read as a standalone. If you’d like to read things in order, the first book is LET ME BE THE ONE. Which is Callie and Tanner’s story. Glory and Callie are cousins.Kam and Tanner are brothers. This is Glory and Kam’s story. Glory wanted to be closer to her cousin. So she uprooted her life and moved to Hoker. She’s trying to make a new life here, she went on three dates with a man named Mike. And she knew he was not the one for her. However, Mike felt differently and became a dangerous stalker. At first Kam did didn’t have a very high opinion of Glory. But he soon found out that he was very wrong and the couple had amazing attraction to each other other! Kam steps into help with the Mike situation. And things started to turn around real quick.
Another five star read by Lori Foster. You definitely want this one on your TBR list!
