Tales Beyond the Veil15 Portal Fantasies of Hidden Doors, Parallel Lives, and the Choices That Shape Us

In every life, there’s a moment—a key turned, a door opened, a choice made—that changes everything.

Tales Beyond the Veil is a richly woven anthology of 15 portal fantasy and speculative stories, where the familiar becomes strange, and the strange becomes deeply personal. Behind every ordinary object lies something a door, a stairwell, a mural, or a memory. These stories are more than just escapes into magical realms—they are meditations on the power of decision, the pull of regret, and the quiet courage it takes to face the unknown.

From mist-laced subways and haunted hotels to starlit laundromats and otherworldly libraries, each story in this collection invites readers to step across a threshold—into another life, a lost past, a possible future, or a secret world that exists just out of sight.

💫 What you’ll discover

A locksmith finds a key that unlocks forgotten moments from his past—and glimpses of the future.

A woman’s attic window shows a living vision of her childhood home... until it beckons her through.

A subway train conductor becomes a guide for lost souls on a phantom line between worlds.

A laundromat dryer labeled “Elsewhere” begins to return lost memories with every spin cycle.

A mysterious masquerade ball grants guests a glimpse of the lives they could have lived.

Each of the 15 stories is a self-contained portal tale that blends emotional depth, speculative wonder, and magical realism, making this anthology perfect for fans of Neil Gaiman, Ray Bradbury, Seanan McGuire, and Shirley Jackson.

Jenny Light is a Yoga Elder, psychologist, meditation teacher on Insight Timer, author and inspirational speaker, born in the rolling hills of Ayrshire, Scotland in 1963.

Her spiritual upbringing was fostered by her parents' personal exploration of Vegetarianism, Yoga, Findhorn (in the early days) and a deep love of multi-faith religious buildings. Kundalini awakening as a small child and finding yoga at 9, Jenny continued where she left off in her spiritual meditative path of many lifetimes.

For thirty-five years she has been a Spiritual Healer with NFSH and then United Spiritual Healers. Jenny trained as a Dru Yoga teacher in 2000 and went on the train extensively in skeletal alignments of Scaravelli Yoga before undergoing the esoteric spiritual training with her guru Paramahansa Yogananada through the Self Realization Fellowship.

Jenny's long-awaited 3rd meditation book, 'Awakening the Lotus of Peace: Yoga Meditation for Inner Peace' (Mantra Books 2022) is a beautifully illustrated book of yoga meditations to experience and express peace in your life.

'Divine Meditations:26 Spiritual Qualities of the Bhagavad Gita' (Mantra Books, Jan 2019) is a spiritual workbook of yoga practises describing how to entrain the consciousness to the higher soul qualities, such as fearlessless, compassion & ahimsa (non-violence), using pranayama, mantra, mudra and meditation.

Her first book, "Living Lightly: a journey through Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME)", charts her own healing path after burn-out from the current educational system as a Support for Learning and Chartered Teacher in primary & secondary schools. Jenny says: 'I had become a human doing, not a human being.' A path of yogic breathing, meditation, self-healing, raw food diet and rethinking her whole approach to life, brought Jenny back on her original spiritual role as a spiritual teacher. She also discovered a latent artistic talent in 2010 and now exhibits all over Scotland.

Jenny runs popular yogic meditation courses, retreats and workshops all over the UK, where she leads people on the inward path to connecting with the Light within. See www.living-lightly.co.uk for details. Her free yogic philosophy, pranayama & meditation classes at https://insighttimer.com/jennylight

Jenny still lives in the Ayrshire that she loves with her husband, nearby her 2 daughters and 6 grandchildren.
