Prequel, UNSTRUNG series. In a world where genetically-engineered humans serve as slave labor to “real” humans, ten-year-old Quinn is an anomaly. Designed with superior intelligence and physical attributes, he lives and trains at Maren DeGaul’s lakeside mansion, being readied for some mysterious purpose as dictated by Precipice Corporation. Despite the comfortable surroundings, Quinn is frequently pushed to his limits by his human guardians, often learning lessons in pain and loneliness. That all changes the day they introduce him to a new artificial, one who is both his equal and his soulmate. But when Maren decides the new artificial is flawed and should be decommissioned, it’s up to Quinn to find a way to save his only friend.
Kendra C. Highley lives in north Texas with her husband and two children. She also serves as staff to four self-important and high-powered cats. This, according to the cats, is her most important job. She believes in everyday magic, extraordinary love stories, and the restorative powers of dark chocolate
This prequel to Unstrung is very beautiful. (Wow I had not described a book that way before.) This story is about two artificials learning to live for a purpose. It mainly focuses on Quinn, being the first prototype of an artificial model K700. He struggles with his life and the world before Lexa. When Lexa was finally with him, he finally found a purpose.
It wasn't easy for me to read this book because it contains abuse and while I usually can tolerate it, it was very hard for me to witness Quinn's pains.
A world where humans are manufactured and not just born is a lot scary. That they are built to be slaves or worse is particularly despicable.
Two of them are joined together and definitely trust each other. However they cannot stay out of trouble. The author pulls you into this quagmire and you will feel for them. However you also realize the time is not yet ripe.
Soooo I got this book when Amazon had their “huge” free books and I must say it was a let down. It was a short read and could have been so much better but the way it ended I won’t be reading the second book.
Wasn't sure at first how I'd like this, but I do want to know more about Quinn and Lexa. How did Maren become the Quad leader? What was the blue light? Now I must continue reading!
This is the story of two young AIs finding humanity and love and friendship with one another. We are introduced to Quinn as a child here. He’s smart, adaptable, and already so protective of the newly created Lexa. She’s rambunctious and rowdy and draws Quinn from his introspective self. This book covers the time before Unstrung. These are the memories that Lexa doesn’t have. It explains Quinn’s need to protect Lexa in Unstrung and it also makes the bite of her memory loss even stronger. I will be honest, I positively FELL IN LOVE with Quinn. I think I read that last chapter three or four...(http://textuallove.wordpress.com/2015...) Read rest of review behind link.
I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this prequel. It was very cool to see the characters from Unstrung as kids, and see the events that set up that story. Even though this is a prequel, I would recommend reading Unstrung first so you don't spoil some of the surprises in that one. But whatever order you read them in, you won't be disappointed in this series. I can't wait to see what happens next!
This was a great introduction book to Unstrung! It definitely made me want to read Unstrung right away. I enjoy this authors style of writing and I am never Disappointed with the books! Great read!
