When a high-powered business executive needs a date to save her career, who better to call than the one-night stand she can’t forget?
Brooklyn Mathers hates to lose. So, when she needs to win a big client to keep her business afloat, she’s willing to do anything. Even invite a woman she hasn’t seen in seven years to be her date for a charity gala in an attempt to gain access to the company’s next CEO. The only thing Brooklyn won’t do? Relationships. Not since her college girlfriend ripped her heart out and stomped it to dust on graduation day.
Savannah Strauss’s life changed forever seven years ago after a steamy encounter with a stranger at a queer club gave her the courage to come out to her conservative family. Now a teacher who helps LGBTQ+ youth, Savannah still can’t forget that night, or the woman who rocked her world. So when Brooklyn calls out of the blue asking her to be her plus one for a charity event, she can’t resist the chance to reconnect.
What could go wrong?
How about Brooklyn’s potential client mistaking them for a real couple and insisting they both attend a corporate retreat in Jamaica? But faking being in love for seven days in paradise is hardly the worst thing that could happen.
Except Savannah is harboring a secret that could destroy everything, one that connects her to Brooklyn's painful past in ways Brooklyn never imagined and makes any relationship between them strictly taboo.
Throw in a fear of water, a fake engagement, and the most annoyingly perfect couple competing for the same account, and it couldn’t get more complicated. That is until Savannah’s entire family ends up in Jamaica for a cousin’s wedding. The closeted cousin who once broke Brooklyn’s heart.
If you enjoy a steamy, one night to forever, second chance, taboo, fake relationship romance, this latest collaboration from sapphic romance’s dynamic duo is the perfect beach read.

Endearing read! Both entertaining and enjoyable love story. Very good dialogue even amusing at times, good chemistry, good supporting characters and it's also well written. Recommended book!
4,5⭐️ If you have read any books by these two authors before, you know what you'll get. If you are looking for an entertaining read with humor, emotion, romance, funny situations, and some drama, then go for it.
Seven years after an unforgettable sexy encounter, Brooklyn and Savannah reconnect after Brooklyn desperately needs a plus one for a charity gala in an attempt to gain access to the company’s next CEO, a potential client. Surprisingly, they convince everyone that they are a couple—with unexpected consequences. The charade takes its course.
A highly entertaining romance that begins with heartbreak but continues seven years later with a fake relationship that may even lead to a second chance at love. Featuring many amusing situations, family secrets, karaoke surprises, steamy scenes, and some drama—all set largely on a tropical paradise island.
A story with good dialogues, banter, and humor, situational comedy, but also some serious topics, and wonderful main and supporting characters. A perfect book to extend the summer a little longer. From heartbreak to a happy ending.
Thank you to the authors for providing an ARC for an honest review.
I can usually stretch my suspension of disbelief pretty far, but this book really tested that limit. It leans heavily into the insta-love/toaster-oven style of romance, which isn’t usually my thing because it tends to lack realism, and this story definitely didn’t convince me otherwise.
That said, if you do enjoy tropes like second chance romance, fake dating, and insta-love, then Brooklyn and Savannah’s love story will probably hit the right notes for you even if it didn’t for me.
For readers who enjoy romances that lean into familiar tropes yet still deliver surprises, Paradise Charade is a treat. T. B. Markinson and Miranda MacLeod take a setup many will recognize—a fake relationship at a tropical retreat—and spin it into something fun, layered, and unexpectedly moving. Set against the shimmering waters and sun-drenched beaches of Jamaica, the novel offers the kind of escapism readers adore. Yet beneath the rom-com charm, the storytelling blends wit with symbolism, emotional nuance, and carefully drawn character work, turning a breezy dalliance into a thoughtful exploration of authenticity, fear, and healing.
At the center are two compelling women whose arcs are finely balanced. Brooklyn Mathers begins as a guarded executive whose drive to win masks a deep fear of intimacy. Her fear of water becomes a vivid metaphor for her emotional hesitation, reflecting her reluctance to “dive in” when it comes to trust and vulnerability. Set against a tropical retreat, Brooklyn is gradually pushed to confront both literal and emotional depths, and her eventual willingness to face them dramatizes a slow but earned journey toward healing.
Savannah Strauss, by contrast, embodies quiet courage and authenticity. A one-night encounter with Brooklyn years earlier gave her the spark she needed to come out, and now she carries both that memory and the weight of family expectations. Savannah’s strength lies in her openness. Her willingness to confront conservative relatives, be honest about her past, and face Brooklyn’s grief head-on turns their reunion into more than a rekindled spark; it becomes a story of reconciliation, resilience, and genuine love.
What keeps the story fresh is its trope stacking. Rather than relying on a single device, the novel uses several: fake dating, fake engagement, second chance, forced proximity, and taboo family connection. Markinson and MacLeod avoid easy clichés because each trope introduces new tension and unexpected twists. A standout example is Savannah’s secret connection to Brooklyn’s ex. Instead of the predictable third-act meltdown, the revelation is handled with honesty and maturity, underscoring the authors’ respect for emotional intelligence and their readers.
The novel’s thematic richness deepens the romance. The fake-dating setup is more than a playful trope, as it forces both women to question where pretense ends and authenticity begins. Similarly, the second-chance arc goes beyond rekindled attraction, exploring themes of redemption. Brooklyn and Savannah must confront past betrayals, family estrangement, and lingering mistrust before they can build something lasting. By examining family dynamics and generational shame, the novel also shows that love and acceptance extend beyond the central couple, and that genuine love relies on honesty, vulnerability, and courage as much as on passion.
Markinson and MacLeod demonstrate a keen talent for using literary devices to enrich their storytelling. In Paradise Charade, the setting is far more than a backdrop; it actively shapes the story and the characters. The retreat creates forced proximity, eliminates easy escape routes, and places Brooklyn and Savannah in situations filled with temptation and exposure. Symbolism runs deep, but most notably in Brooklyn’s relationship with water. What begins as fear becomes a breakthrough, symbolizing healing and the courage to embrace love and vulnerability. Together, the setting and the symbolism make the island feel alive, charged, and essential to the romance itself.
Beyond their use of setting, symbolism and theme, the authors’ mastery of dialogue is another defining strength. The duo excels at blending humor, banter, and chemistry neatly into their storytelling. In Paradise Charade, their trademark wit helps keep the narrative light and engaging, even when emotions run deep. Brooklyn and Savannah’s conversations sparkle throughout, effortlessly shifting between sharp and playful. Markinson and MacLeod keep an eye on the tension, allowing the emotional honesty to break down the walls gradually. This balance of tension and openness creates a slow burn romance that’s simply charming.
Final Remarks…
Paradise Charade strikes a rare balance: it’s both breezy, escapist fun and a deeply thoughtful, emotionally intelligent romance. The story delivers all the tropes readers love—professional rivalries, forbidden secrets, fake-dating, second chances, and one bed in paradise—without skimming over real emotion. Its characters face pain with resilience, honor their identities, and find the possibility of renewal, making their journeys feel genuine. Markinson and MacLeod once again elevate familiar tropes with rich symbolism, sparkling dialogue, and meaningful thematic depth, creating a rom-com that is as charming as it is emotionally satisfying.
Strengths…
Likable, well-developed characters Strong chemistry between characters Effective symbolism Witty, dynamic banter Emotional depth Multiple tropes with a fresh spin Engaging, entertaining read
This book ticks all the boxes for an entertaining read. It has strong likeable main characters who are just the opposite of each other and yet share great chemistry. The story is filled with fun banter, hilarious moments, and quirky family members.
Seven years after a memorable night of a roll in a hay, Brooklyn and Savannah meet again. Brooklyn needs a date for a charity gala to connect with a potential client in a state where Savannah lives. They both attended the gala where they were mistaken for a couple and had to continue with the charade just so Brooklyn could win the account she is vying for. Their journey takes them to a tropical island, where they continue pretending to be a couple, leading to unexpected situations.
If you enjoy romantic comedies that make you feel good, then look no further.….this book might just do for you like it did for me 😊
Loved the start. A couple of details pulled me out the “one night” scene. Total personal preference rather than the writing. The later intimate scenes were perfect, as was pretty much the rest of the book. The plot has been done before of course but this was well done and managed to stay fresh. These two writers always hit the important bits. Likeable characters, tension as unexploded plot points come closer to the surface and all done with humour.
Seven years ago Savannah and Brooklyn had a drunken hookup in the alley behind the local rainbow nightclub. Brooklyn had recently graduated, and been dumped, and this was her first time back in the saddle. Savannah was just starting college, and Brooklyn was only her second woman. For both of them this was memorable, for more reasons than one. Seven years later, and Brooklyn needs a fake date for a business event, and the only person she can think of is Savannah. Even though they haven’t communicated during the intervening years, they have each followed the other on social media, so they know details about the other. I really enjoyed this story. Not massively deep, but a really ‘can’t put down’ book with minimal angst and several steamy scenes, and some very romantic times. When it comes to fake dating tropes, these wonderful authors really have the market covered! Embarrassing or suggestive things happening in quick succession to keep Savannah and Brooklyn on their toes, and to keep us cringing, gasping or laughing. I loved it.
I find it difficult to finish this book. The main character feels off, and the rationale behind the fake relationship comes across as unconvincing, at least for me.
Brooklyn and Savannah are reunited after meeting years ago in a club where they shared an unforgettable moment. Now, Brooklyn is desperate to land a client to keep her business afloat but a fake relationship is only going to work with someone who sort of knows her and that she can trust. They haven’t spoken in all that time, but when Brooklyn asked Savannah can’t resist helping.
It was a lot of fun to read this story. Brooklyn and Savannah’s past was awkward and even more so that Brooklyn didn’t really know just who Savannah really was when they first met. Through their social media accounts, they have sort of kept an eye on what the other was doing during all this time that had passed, but because Savannah had become estranged from her family when she came out, the connection they shared beyond attraction had never been revealed. I loved how the second they were back together there were all these emotions instantly making it awkward and complicated for them both, and yet they both tried to ignore it.
Savannah knew she needed to tell Brooklyn, especially the moment they started to admit to having feelings for one another, but she didn’t want to hurt her at an already stressful time. I really felt for Savannah because she learned so much more about Brooklyn while they were on this retreat with the prospective client that confirmed just how vulnerable she really was. I adored how she didn’t hesitate to defend Brooklyn though, and went out of her way to do everything Brooklyn needed to win this deal, even if at times that was tough.
T.B. and Miranda have done it again! Another clever, funny, and heartwarming romance, with a humour and timing that only they can deliver. I highly recommend this!
Two things you need when reading this book. An ice cold drink and a fan. Because this book is smokin. Brooklyn and Savannah were made for each other. The setting in Jamaica made me want to reach for the nearest travel brochure and the story was full of the usual humour and a cast of colourful characters
Escape reality for romance and shenanigans in picturesque settings (4.5 stars) I've read enough TB and Miranda co-writes over the years (maybe all of them by now) to have some expectations, be they conscious or subconscious ones. I expect laughs and shenanigans throughout the book, to get the feels of a sweet loving romance with some drama thrown in, settings where the weather and location are enviable, and some hot steamy encounters between the main characters. The Paradise Charade delivers on all that and more with main characters Brooklyn and Savannah so easy to root for them getting and staying together, and wanting all their dreams to come true so you can witness it and catch vicarious feels from it all. I read the entire book in two days (one long reading session each day) and might have done it in one sitting had the e-reader battery not drained down to virtually nothing and needed to be recharged before I could continue; that and sleep eventually beckoned so my personal battery need recharging too. The opening chapter is a banger that pours a ton of drama and awkwardness onto the page; from there it gets lighter but more drama occurs later in the story. Overall though the story felt low-ish on the angst scale so it'd make a good beach read if you're cool reading steamy scenes out in public. There is one particularly dislikable character in the cast of secondaries who I never missed when she was not in a scene and a few who rubbed me the wrong way because of how they treated others but other secondary characters are hilarious and borderline scene stealers when they show up in a scene, or get a mention because of something they've done off page; an extra scene or two with those more lovable secondaries would have been great if the book wasn't so jam packed with other goings on around the beloved mains. I snickered and chuckled all the way thru the book, wondering how certain situations and circumstances were going to resolve; I guessed right on a couple but my other guesses were way off in the end which made it all the more entertaining to see a solution I didn't anticipate. My only (minor) quibble with the story is that a key moment in the plot trajectory occurred at a time and place that could be seen by some readers as potentially upstaging what was also going on in the scene; to say more would involve spoilers and so I'll leave it at that. It didn't colour my reading enjoyment in a significant way and only caught my attention because of the timing/coinciding of it all. If you need an escape from real life and like when characters handle tension between them with maturity; demonstrate love and care for each other in sweet, hot, tender and creative ways with and without saying the words; and possess integrity even when it has real consequences, check out The Paradise Charade. Follow Brooklyn and Savannah on their wild and winding path to love and all's well that ends well. I also recommend you check out the other co-writes TB and Miranda have done together and with other authors as well as their solo writes. I look forward to reading whatever they publish next and learning in their frequently hilarious email subscriber newsletters which book scenes were inspired by real life events and whose life it was drawn from. Their co-writing is seamless so it's not always easy to know whose life a detail or moment might have come from.
You really can’t go wrong with a Miranda and TB collaboration and this is another fun read to add to the collection! This starts with Savannah helping her cousin Emily to move out of her college accommodation in Boulder. Emily describes the woman she’s been living with (Brooklyn) as her ‘roommate’ but when that roommate returns home unexpectedly following her graduation, it quickly becomes apparent that they were a lot more than just roommates. Subsequently, Savannah returns to Boulder a couple of weeks later and has a steamy encounter with an unknown woman, who turns out to be her cousin’s former girlfriend! But she’s the only one who realises that… Fast forward seven years and Savannah is living in Boulder whilst Brooklyn lives in New York. They are still in contact via a social media platform (like Facebook) and when Brooklyn needs a date to take to an event in Denver for a potential future client, she thinks of Savannah….thereafter events conspire and then gradually spiral out of control as they end up having to fake being a couple for a week long executive retreat in Jamaica. Feelings aren’t meant to be part of the equation, but I’m sure you can guess how that ends up! The banter in this is sparkling and at times genuinely funny. I chuckled several times eg. at a quip Savannah makes about Brooklyn’s difficulty with clothes (trying not to spoil the joke here…)There’s also some pretty steamy sex to keep the interest. My only issues really were disbelief over Brooklyn learning to swim in a couple of days and the outcome of the bid for PopGeist’s work. Otherwise, this is very enjoyable and engaging (as usual from these two authors) and I particularly appreciated that when Savannah’s secret comes out, they talk about if rather than one storming off in a ‘break up before the makeup’ (my pet hate). Definitely worth the read!
What a ride! This book hooked me from the very first page with its intriguing start and lovable main characters. The pacing is smooth, the humor is spot-on, and the emotional beats hit just right. And oh my! Chapter 3, absolute fire.
There’s a time jump early on that made me pause (not usually my thing), but unsurprisingly, it works beautifully. The story flows so well that I forgot all about it. The development is rich and full of surprises, and I especially appreciated how the authors handled conflict without falling into the usual third-act breakup trope. It felt refreshing and real.
I was rooting for these characters from the beginning; their chemistry is undeniable. There’s a tiny moment near the end where the connection feels slightly off, but it quickly finds its rhythm again. The ending was warm, satisfying, and exactly what I needed.
This writing duo is my favorite; kudos to TB and Miranda. Their storytelling is heartfelt, funny, and full of charm. If you’re looking for a romance that makes you laugh, swoon, and feel all the feels, this one’s for you. Highly recommended!
Not sure how TB and Miranda continue to come up with these stories, that make you laugh out load one minute and have your skin crawling with that sinking feeling when you can see a car crash approaching fast just because people fail to communicate properly. I really love the way these two bring in every day challenges to their stories. Random use of emojis by the older generation who think their picture messages are crystal clear are something that particularly struck a chord. Brooklyn and Savannah met one night 7 years ago. The night left a lasting impression on them both. When Brooklyn needs a fake date to a charity gala to try and get close to a CEO in waiting can she really ask someone she hasn't spoken to in years.... well needs must. However, nothing runs as planned and the next thing you know the pair have to continue the fake relationship for longer than intended. Brooklyn feels bad about what she is asking of Savannah, but Savannah is harbouring her own secret regarding the person who broke Brooklyn's heart before they met.
"The Paradise Charade", written by TB Markinson and Miranda McLeod, is very appropriately titled although I didn't realise just how apt it is until I was really into reading it. Talk about fake "situations"...the book was full of them; a real charade. Until it wasn't; it became very real for Brooklyn Mathers and Savannah Strauss, the two main characters. I enjoyed the story very much and the place it began to change for me was on the tropical island of Paradise (Jamaica). Brooklyn and Savannah were good together, complimenting each other very well. My favourite, though would have to be Brooklyn, as she had to be bigger than Savannah in what she was prepared to do for them to be together. The supporting characters worked well too, but I don't know that Savannah's best friend Tess was always so helpful; certainly, she provided some lighthearted relief. I always enjoy the books from this Writing Duo, and this one is no exception.
This review is from an ARC read. TB and Miranda have again presented a sweet, story that begins in a frightfully horrible beginning. I am not going to give this away so be patient. The biggest impression from this story is honesty, followed closely by found family. The settings for this book are beautifully described and so very important. The characters growth is impressive and key. I am so impressed by the skill of these two authors to deliver fully heartfelt feelings in stories that are real to my imagination. My next trip to Colorado, NYC and even to Jamaica will be slightly changed because of the images they have so skillfully presented here. To say I enjoyed this book lessens it, it really is a triumph wrought from laughter, tears, anxiety and of course some very steamy scenes that culminate in one awesomely good read.
This is another seamless co-write from this fabulous duo. Although I have read all their books, I really can't guess who writes what, but I do try to guess which scenes have been inspired by which author. The longevity of their friendship is what makes their writing dynamic so special!
One can't help but like the main characters of Brooklyn and Savannah. I don't always like the fake dating trope, but this one really worked. The book has everything I like - engaging, yet fallible characters, a gorgeous beach setting and a plot that evolves from a charade to living your authentic self. Let's face it, I just love this writing duo. Their writing is seamless, full of humor and flirty, sexy banter, but with a beautiful message of authenticity. I absolutely recommend!!!
Any Day In Paradise Is Good For Lovers (Even Fake Ones)!
Another joint venture and another truly enjoyable read. Loved this story. This coupling of Brooklyn & Savannah is my favorite. I think it was genius in the first episode scene on how Savannah came to know what exactly her bully of a cousin Emily did to Brooklyn. It humanizes the whole situation. The reasons Brooklyn and Savannah were both at The Rainbow Room, the interlude in the alley, the lingering memories. Of course it would be Savannah that Brooklyn thinks of when she needs a date to a gala a potential client was having. Their connection was still felt after years later. The story was warm, funny and heartfelt. Just what you expect from T.B. and Miranda.
I love when two of my favorite authors get together to write a book. It covers the seriousness of relationships as well as the fun side. My heart broke for Brooklyn from the start. Savannah is so caring and always has Brooklyn's back even when she didn't really know her. Their connection was so strong from the first hook-up that it spanned the seven years they were apart. Ay every fake turn they fell more in love with each other. Facing their fears together and forever. I love this book
Years back, Savannah met Brooklyn at a bar, they flirted, and even made out a bit. But as they talked Brooklyn said something that made Savannah realize this was her cousin's ex. Not sure what to do, she fled.
Now, when Brooklyn needs a fake date for a local event, she asks Savannah out, and it goes surprisingly well. A bit too well, as they end up having to continue to fake date on a tropical holiday.
Good read. I like Savannah's Mom and Dad too, their adorable. And the very awful Emily from the start of the book even gets a redemption arc.
What a fun easy reading story this was! What else could go wrong with a fake relationship/engagement? Then a nosy mom stumbles into the situation and all hell seems to break loose! But in the end it really worked out for Savannah and Booklyn.
If you’re the adventurous type, you’ll also enjoy the white water rafting and snorkeling moments in this book. TB and Miranda have written yet another fun story! You can read this book in one weekend, with your dog/cat by your side and a good cup of coffee (or beer or wine!) Thank you TB and Miranda for collabing on this book!
A helping hand for her cousin, an overheard conversation, a chance meeting, seven years of mutual social media stalking and a desperate phone call changes both our main characters lives forever. This dynamic has only gone and done it again. Another fantastic story that had me hooked from page one. Loved every second of this book, the main characters are great, a nice mixture of side characters, beautiful location and a HEA…what more could you ask for.
I really enjoyed The Paradise Charade. Brooklyn and Savannah’s banter was genuinely funny, the side characters were interesting and added a lot of charm, and the tropical setting gave the whole story that perfect vacation-romance vibe. I also appreciated how it mixed lighthearted moments with some real emotional growth. It does lean a bit into insta-love, but honestly, it still worked for me. This sweet yet steamy romance had the humor, tension, and sincerity I was hoping for. And it definitely delivered.
I just love these two authors, both individually and together, their writing is brilliant. This book is no exception, it tells the story of a memorable one night stand growing into something else. Brooklyn and Savannah meet at a club and have a one night stand. Having never forgotten the encounter, years later Brooklyn contacts Savannah to ask her to pretend to be her girlfriend in order to gain a client. This is very well written, with interesting main characters and a interesting story line.
