Quite honestly, this story didn’t even stick with me for the three days it has taken to sit down and write a review. I can’t remember most of it! Nothing, not even the names of the characters stood out enough that I can recall them. I do remember there are ridiculously long sex scenes - multiple chapters at a time (yes, you read that right, not paragraphs, not pages - chapters!) And that I was super annoyed because all that page space left other areas of the plotline and depth sadly underdeveloped. The pacing just wasn’t consistent.
Still, I do remember enjoying reading the story at the time.
I liked the overall story and characters, especially Rasp and Vince, who came across as a cute comedy team even though Rasp is immature and more like a kid. Vince is endearing, loyal and strong with autistic traits. As dragon shifters, they are among the best, yet dying breed.
Elle and the Prince develop nearly an instant romance, which later became redundant. The intimacy went on and on, till I just began to skip over most of it. I did like how strong both characters were, even though Elle could not shift. Her family, except the two youngest sibs, an aunt and her long time nanny, were despicable.
There were some editing problems, which always amazes me. Also, the ending did not address how the main characters would join their households, where would they live and how would that work, so that sort of left me hanging.
I loved the plot, loved the characters, what I DID NOT love was wading through pages and even chapters of graphically described sex!! Why do writers of shifter stories have to ruin it that way? I must have paged through half the book to get back to the story! Another author for my "no" list!
Maybe it's me but I don't get the other 5 star reviews for this book. I struggled through it and I skimmed a lot. The spice scenes were very lengthy which I admit to getting bored with when they are over done. There wasn't a lot of action either. Bastien, Brielle's evil brother seemed like a caricature OTT villain. My two favourites were Rasp and Vince. They were like a comedy double act although I felt a camaraderie with both of them. Aurelius was ok as the MMC but he didn't rock my boat. I didn't feel that much chemistry between Brielle and Aurelius and it seemed a little instalove story. This story also kept mentioning the struggle for heirs to carry on the line. Especially as the dragon lineage was on the verge of extinction. And yet you have a Dragon falling for a wolf where there can be no progeny forthcoming? Didn't make any sense.
This was not a great book. There was a lot of telling and not enough showing, a lot of justifications from both characters about their personalities or backgrounds and minimal world building. This really read like a self insert fan fiction, especially with the MFC constant talk about her weight and how she was 'chunky but fit with muscle under all that fat', 'I'm so hot I get hit on 8 times a day' etc, etc.
The entire book was written as though the author hadn't thought anything through. At one point it's stated that she's "The eldest daughter who’d been missing for years from her family and public life? Her location and what had happened to her were a closely guarded secret." But his friends started doing research "last night" and was able to find and kidnap her the following day. Like, what?
Another lapse in logic; Elle being kidnapped and their families being on the brink of war doesn't stop them from holding hands and taking a tour of his house and bantering about spankings while they await a response from her family, which to his understanding could push the tension over the edge as well as spill some secrets about his family. But logic doesn't matter when the other person is hot, right? This goes on and on to the point of being ridiculous.
The horse riding scene was well written and I wish there was more like it. They had relatable banter, emotional leeway and actual story building. It was a shame more of the book wasn't written like that.
The book overall had good bones. I appreciate that she was a shifter that didn't have her wolf and it stayed like that. There was no magic that fixed it, no mate bond that clicked into place and allowed her to shift, no plot armor bs. Just pure cause and affect and excepting what we are and what we have. But the bones just couldn't make up for the rest of it. I almost DNFed a few times but I have a problem about leaving things incomplete, it's a gift and a curse.
I may give the author another go at one point but for now I'm just going to move on. This definitely wasn't for me.

Overall tl;dr - a predictable, good romantsy There are two parts in this book, like a duology of sort. The writing was good and easy, there was a lot of world building, a cute romance & good amount of spice. It did feel a little too slow paced, a little predictable and flat sometimes.. a soild 3.25 stars ⭐
The romance - Was both insta-love and slow-burn, if it makes sense, LOL The characters had a good chemistry, and the spice was detailed but not overwhelming. Overall for spice & steam - 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Each one of the characters belongs to a different kind of shifters, wolfs & dragons, and the tribes are enemies, so also there's a little forbidden romance happening in this book.
Brielle (Elle) - The FMC, she was super sweet and tender. Sassy curvy girl with a good self confidence. She's been outcasted from her home because she can't shift. At the beginning she describes her emotions in such a heartbreaking way, and it's very easy to feel relatable to her. Among the book she finds her place and her voice, and I loved it for her.
Aurelius - The MMC, what a sweetheart. He is kind, protective and caring from the first page toward Elle and her situation. A manly man who isn't afraid to show his interest & his affection.
The found family was very sweet, and it felt like Elle found her place, with the people who cares about her. The story & the plot were good. At some parts it did feel a little too slow, and too dragging.
Final thoughts: Easy book to read, enjoyable romantsy. Sweet characters and cute romance. A little too slow paced for me, and a little too predictable.. not really a book that'll stay with you - the second you finish it, you kinda forgot it
Tropes - Urbana fantasy, Paranormal, Contemporary, Dragon shifters, Wolf shifters, Found family, Abduction, Insta-Love, Slow-Burn, Forbidden love, Curvy heroine, Sassy heroine, Sweet heroine, Sweet hero, Royal hero, Protective hero Dual POV, First person POV.

The Forsaken Heir by Lindsey Devin (KU) 665 pgs, ****.* 10/16/25 Aurelius & Brielle 4.5 stars. I loved this book. This is the first book I’ve read by Lindsey Devin and I am very impressed. Very few little word errors which doesn’t really bother me as I am into the story, not editing the books I read.
Contents: Sex (sometimes too much), fighting, kidnapping, explicit torture, slow love building, awesome chemistry, kindness, brutality, exiting scenes. Flow is perfect, very little boring areas, great conversation, absolutely no “in the head” talking.
Aurelius is a Dragon Prince, next in line for the Thrown. He and his kind are dragon shifters. Their kind are dwindling in numbers, and which weighs heavily on all their minds. They live most of their time in human form since the human world is unaware of all other forms of life existence. They can only change into their dragon form away from human eyes as with cloud cover and at night. Human advancements have made it hard on the dragons to hide in the current day and age. The dragons have a foe in the werewolf community. The other life forms attempt to exist in peace. They all have their own communities that do not interfere with the other communities except for humans who are intermixed with all of them.
Brielle, born into the Head Family of Wolf Shifters, lives among humans since she was exiled by her family as a teenager. She is not allowed to have any interactions with her kind, so she has grown more human over the years. Her community only knows that she was either kidnapped or left them on her own to never return. This was widely known amongst all other “breeds” ( for lack of a better word).
For over a century or more, it was widely known the Head Wolf family wanted to annihilate the Dragon’s to extinction so they could take over their magical lands and power. The wolves outnumbered the dragons, more than 10:1, so the dragons have attempted to keep peace all these years, but it was in a steady decline.
Aurelius’ two best friends, a little “dufus” like, tried to find a way in their minds to help with the uprising by trying to find the missing Heiress of the wolves which would make the dragons Hero’s to the wolves. They found Brielle and “saved” her although Brielle wasn’t being held against her will and thought she was truly being kidnapped by them. Once they delivered her to the castle, the story begins between Aurelius and Brielle. And what a great story it is. This is a must read for any reader that loves paranormal romance. Every character becomes a huge part of this story, and you will fall in love with nearly all of them. It is a HEA, but I wasn’t completely happy with the ending. I wanted much more for this couple that just wasn’t going to happen.
This is a stand-alone, but I could see it turning into a series because of the character building in each and every entity written in this book.
Wobbly pacing, flubbed details but not bad overall
This book is over 600 pages long, and divided into 2 parts. Part one drags on longer than the last 2 work hours on Friday afternoon - takes for-freaking-ever. Part 2 has a better pacing but is a little inconsistent and stalls out a few times before rushing like a runaway train. I almost quit around the midway point because I struggled so hard to get engaged in the story and part 2 didn't fully make up for that time investment.
Brielle is a decent FMC. She has one moment of true idiocy but is mostly interesting and intelligent. She stumbles in balance with her past trauma and is well written. Aurelius is a decent MMC. He has one moment of male idiocy (literally just listen to the woman for 5 seconds and the whole conflict could have been avoided) but he is also intelligent, has decent logic skills and is consistently good from start to finish. The side characters are mostly enjoyable and well placed into the story. Delphine is a bit excessive and useless at times but serves her purpose in the story.
The author does a decent balance of unique elements in relatively familiar tropes. Her darker themes are appropriate for the antagonist plotline and are reasonable for what she's presenting. The antagonist plotline itself is exceptionally done. It's the best aspect of the book for me. (Not the resolution of Brielle's parents, they deserved an actual punishment but her brother is appropriately resolved).
There are a decent number of fumbles throughout the book. Just small details that contradict or confuse previously provided facts for the story. It got a bit annoying having the author flip flop some of these flubs, like she was trying to backtrack her errors without actually correcting the errors before moving on.
The very very ending is a bit weak as well. After tons of blather (which seems unfounded) regarding interspecies mating, the author just keeps harping about it. It feels more like she was trying to leave the door open for another book if this one does well enough, but it's just annoying - have the characters make a choice or give 'em an epilogue and end this madness.
Overall, the synopsis that tempted me into reading this book was much better than the book itself. It's not a bad read really but it's not going to convince me to dive into the author's back catalog anytime soon.
Prince Aurelius and Brielle Laurent. Prince Aurelius is the Heir to the dragon shifters in their land. There are also wolf shifters and fae. They each have their own lands. They are unknown to humans. Brielle (Elle) is a wolf shifter. Her only disadvantage is that she cannot shift and to her family that is unforgivable. So she is their secret or you might say embarrassment. Boy that sucks! While Elle is sitting outside and relaxing at home someone or something grabs her and started flying away with her. She tried her best to get away but nothing worked. Next thing she knows she is gently put down on the ground. Lo and behold she realizes there are two dragons next to her. They bring her to a room and tie her to a chair. What is going on? Prince Aurelius comes into the room and is flabbergasted. What the f…..! The prince’s two best friends just kidnapped a wolf shifter. His friends have a lot to answer for. What a way for Elle to meet the Prince. It is all a misunderstanding but there may be repercussions to this. Since the dragon shifters and the wolf shifters are enemies this could be catastrophic. Will this cause more problems or possibly help? Unfortunately it will probably be more on the negative side. Let’s see what happens next?
Such a great book. Brielle is heir to her family but she can't shift, so she is sent to the human world to live a human life. While they prove her a home and an allowance, they go pretty well no contact. Aurelius is heir to the dragon's but no lady interests him and he is looked down upon because he is a view as a peacekeeper. Aurelius 2 friends kidnap Brielle because they think she has been kidnapped from her family since she is living in a human town. Aurelius gets a lord to apologize to her family for her real kidnapping. After they finally respond. She is in danger. Aurelius saves her but her brother / family declare war on his kingdom. What happens is chaotic, scary then slowly satisfying. At the end, if I was Brielle, I would of told my parents because of their desire for power and believing being not a shifter is weak, caused their downfall. If they valued love, they would not be in their position and deserve the worst but because she is not despicable as them, she is going to show them kindness but they lost their family because they deserve to.

It’s a good palate cleanser as someone else here said. It’s cute, adorable love with funny side characters. It was interesting including an autistic character, very unexpected. I’d have to say it’s the first time I’ve ever read “moose shifter” in ANY shifter books. I DEFINITELY did not see that one coming 😂 There are some editing errors but nothing major. There’s more spice than I was expecting in here, like a 3/5? Biggest gripe? Part one had WAAAAYYYYY too much adolescent banter, use of the word “like” ex there was, like, so many muffins. I pictured teens instead of grown adults in my head.
The story was pretty straightforward with a couple of head scratcher moments, but whatever, it works for the story. At least how things ended with Bastian made sense to me. I didn’t want to see “FMC with kind heart love bombs the villain into becoming a better person”. NAHHHH.
Since this appears to be set in the greater Seattle area (where I live), that automatically gets it a 👍.
Recommend for light fluffy reading, don’t expect anything very thought provoking with lots of depth.
Finally! Brielle is a FMC who proves you can be strong, clever, and vulnerable all at once. This delivers exactly what I’ve been craving in a shifter romance: a heroine who refuses to be sidelined. Brielle isn’t a damsel like we're usual given, she’s resourceful, quick-witted, and more than capable of holding her own in a world that would rather see her gone.
The banter is razor-sharp, the slow-burn romance is deliciously tense and well balanced so it's not boring and the stakes feel high from start to finish. The world-building is layered without being overwhelming which I really appreciated as well. Whole it's definitely longer than I'm used to (mostly cause it's 2 books in one), every scene keeps pulling you forward.
If you’re tired of cookie-cutter heroines and want a story with bite, heart, an FMC who knows what she wants, an MMC who stands by her side and a romance worth rooting for, this one’s it. Strong FMCs for the win!
The formatting is a bit odd but not horrible, its just different. It threw me off at first but it was easy enough to adjust to.
The first quarter of the book was a nice, easy pace. Then 25% hit and boy did it take me on a rollercoaster I didn't want to get off of until the end!!
I LOVE that Elle is so realistic and curvy too. All of the characters felt so real. Vince is a favorite by far and Im so glad he was a part of this story.
As someone who's own biological donors tossed her aside for petty reasons instead of showing unconditional love that parents should have, it was nice to read a book about someone else going through similar. Im also blessed to have parents in my life that, while we may not share DNA, do show me unconditional love regardless.
I really enjoyed Aurelius and Brielle's. It's longer than the typical stories I read but devoured it in about 8 hours. They weren't destined to be together given he's a dragon and she's a wolf. That in itself made the story interesting, but to add in the fact that races are enemies, she can't shift, and her family is absolutely horrible people just took the plot over the top. I was hooked from beginning to end wondering how things were going to play out. I loved both Aurelius and Brielle's personality. They were strong, independent, caring, etc, and that really shone through throughout the story. My heart went out to Brielle for how her parents and younger brother treated her. So glad they got what they had coming. The secondary characters were great as well and helped bring much to the plot. Overall, this was a good read I'd highly recommend.
I like this book, but some of the sex scenes got a little ridiculous. I feel that the trigger warnings that are in the back of this book should actually have been in the front of the book. Some of the triggers in this book have to do with sexual abuse, psychological abuse, and abandonment. There’s also different scenes of torture in this book. Especially when the MMC is captured. I did feel bad for the FMC because of the way that she was treated by her parents, but on the other hand, it was probably good that she was able to get out of that environment. I did like Vince I believe he was a little bit on the autism spectrum from the way he was described, but he was still a fun character. I love dragons and reading how these dragons interacted with others was interesting.
Tremendous book! The FMC has a disability and is ostracised from her family and her shifter community because of it - they only want “perfect” shifters. She meets a dragon prince when she is kidnapped by a pair of well meaning young dragons, none of whom see her as “less than.” Thus begins her journey to self acceptance alongside a battle with the wolves to make them acknowledge her (and to stop trying to kill her when they do acknowledge her).
The thing I loved most about this book is that despite being a wolf shifter with no wolf, the FMC didn’t magically get “better” or become whole by getting an inner wolf. She just realises that she was actually whole all along and there’s no need to change, which is a MUCH better message.

This was an amazing story of how love wins in the end. We have all been through different family dynamics and this book is no different. Bringing with it jealousy, animosity, manipulation, rejection, and self doubt, the twist comes when you look back and see who you truly are and what you forgot you were capable of. We live our lives thinking we can never be, or never amount to something, and we believe it instead of believing the true potential we have. This book shows how finding your true self and believing that love does conquer all, and that family isn't just blood relatives, but those who choose to stand by your side no matter what may come. A good read, definitely a good read.
I haven’t read Lindsey Devin in a while and I’m going to have to remedy that as this book did not disappoint!! The entire book is totally engaging and holds you in there like glue. Aurelius and Brielle both have their own stories of heartache and trouble to get through but when they find each other their hearts know they need to try to get through it with the help of one another. It doesn’t hurt to have Aurelius two friends in the mix that after they start a potential disaster they will from time to time have you laughing out loud at their crazy antics !! Those two are also so fantastic!! I love the side characters in this just as much as the main characters!! So glad I’d been watching this book to get it , really worth the read!!
Overall, this romantasy was good but a little too dragging for me to give it 4 stars. I put it down several times and started other books and then picked this back one up.
While it was almost an insta-love scenario for the characters, the storyline was somehow pulled into a quagmire of inconsequential events and descriptors. So though the plot was interest and even entertaining, the characters well thought out and complex, it made for a difficult read.
I would recommend the book but as I enjoy the story but expect it to be challenge to get through.

I’m giving this one 3 1/2 stars. Wolfless heir, banished by her family, gets kidnapped by a couple of clueless dragon friends that you grow to love. Dragon friends? Of the Prince! Of course his first meeting with Elle is with her tied to a chair in his bedroom. The antics continue, some comical, some not so much. Puts me in mind of the Romeo and Juliet scenario. Different species don’t mix, she’s “broken”, her brother wants her dead, you know, pretty standard family stuff. I did really enjoy the inclusion of a couple people on the spectrum, it made the story more real as well as make you appreciate their character more.
A Facebook Amazon ad for this story grabbed me with the humor. I loved Brielle, when she realized her dragon shifter kidnappers thought they were rescuing her from something, and trying to help open diplomatic ties with her former wolf pack family who had kicked her out. Her connection with the dragon prince was beautifully developed.
The dragons are trying to avert a war , when the leader of the wolves (her psychotic brother) wants to start one. So many twists and turns to the story, so many interesting characters! Definitely a page turner!
Im a sucker for a.good Shiftet book and I totally enjoyed this story. This is a new author to me and I plan to look into her other books. Brielle is a wolf shifter but she doesnt have her inner wolf so her family discards her. So she lives among the.humans. Aurelius is the Crown Prince of the Dragon Clan. The two clans are at odd and things escalate once misunderstanding happems that brings Ellie face to face with her family again. A war is coming but the will of a scoren woman and a determined Dragon to get justice brings on a strong bond between the two.
so glad this book is done. It was way way too long and I just wanted to get it over with. I have a problem not dnf'ing books and this should have been one. it was just so boring lol, I skimmed a lot and it still took too long to read. the only good parts were Vince and Rasp. also it didnt make sense that the dragons are on the verge of extinction, so why would you have the book be about a dragon and a wolf l, further causing to the extinction. just seems dumb and a wasted opportunity. I mean, this is fantasy after all, you could have made them fall pregnant at least but you chose sadness
This book was a really great, quick read. The side characters were probably the best, Rasp and Vince - LOVE them. I want to be their best friend.
There was a lot of written repetition and paragraphs that didn’t need to be there because they repeated everything the write previously wrote, and this is just a minor thing. It doesn’t destroy the book.
I did thoroughly enjoy this and look forward to reading more from this author.
It was a good story. Building the world was good and the action was ok. This story kept me interested but it didn’t turn out how I thought it should have. I didn’t care for one having centuries for a life span and you give him a wolf shifter with no magic or wolf. He marries her but not mates her. She is essentially a human in a shifter magical world. I didn’t get it. I only kept reading to see if it would make sense.
It passed a few hours on but I'd be gutted if I'd paid for it!
The story was interesting but it did feel rather rushed, I felt like it needed more depth. The main characters were likeable, it had the obligatory villains, but I didn't find myself becoming invested in or moved by them. Oh, and I skimmed past the sex scenes, it felt like they were put in 'for the sake of it'. It's a shame really, it could have been a good book with a little more work.
An epic read from this author, so ejoyed this tale of Brielle and Aurelius. As the blurb says, this was two books in one and for that I loved t. Never a fan of cliff hangers and always prefering to read in one hit or wait for the next books to be published. Brielle's tale was full of adventure, emotion and everythng you'd expect with such characters.
I just loved Brielle and Aurelius. This i both parts so you get a HEA at the end. The plot was great and followed smoothly. I found it funny, sad and a story of acceptance, They both had to realise who they were and what they wanted to get for themselves. It was great seeing Vince get his happy ending as well.
Quite an epic tale of star crossed lovers of different shifter species. This book is on the long side but it is worth it. The plot moves along at a good pace and it doesn't lag. The characters were a good balance. It was a great story.
