Shadai Austin December 2011 The Secret Club Chrissie Perry
Protagonist: The main characters name is Tasmin. She is really short. She has long brown hair. Tasmin is the jealous type. She wants to be in the Secret Club. She is nice but gets mad fast.
Antagonist: Casey. Casey is mean. She is only mean because her parents are getting a divorce. She has been doing bad in school ever since she found out about her parents. Tasmin doesn’t know yet why Casey is acting mean towards her, especially since she is new to the school.
Conflict: The main conflict in the story is Tasmin moved. She had to switch schools too. Her mom got a better job, so they moved to another state. Tasmin doesn’t know anyone at her new school. She is making friends fast. But... 3 girls in her class all have the same anklet and Tamsin is curious on why. All of them have S’s on them.
Theme: The lesson is never stop trying to make new friends because you do not know them. I think this is the lesson because in the book, it keeps showing Tasmin trying to make new friends. I think this is a good lesson too. Also, another lesson in the book is just because someone is being mean to you, doesn’t mean they hate you. Something is probably bothering them.
Setting: The story is located in Tasmin’s school, house, and Casey’s club house. The times are at morning, evening, and night. Also, in the streets where Tasmin walks her dog. She walks him after school, and sometimes in the morning.
Plot: In the beginning of the book, Tasmin thought after she moved no one would be her friend. She thought she would only have 1 friend which was her dog. Of course she had her family.. but she still did want friends. At first she only had her poster to talk to.
Middle Plot: Tasmin has moved. She has made 3 friends so far. 1 of them is sometimes mean to her. They all like to jump rope together at recess. Tasmin doesn’t really know why Casey is so mean and bad in class. She also doesn’t know why they all have on anklets with S’s hanging off.
End Plot: In the end of the story, Tasmin was in the Secret Club with all of her friends from her new school. She knows why Casey has been acting up. She decided that all 4 of them go to their teacher and tell her what is happening with her parents. That way she wont be in so much trouble and she will know why.
Climax: In the beginning of the story, Tasmin really wanted to move. Her feelings changed at the end of the book. In the end she wasn’t to happy but she was glad that she met knew friends. They might not have been her best friends, but they were nice. She has gone from mad too happy.
Resolution: Tasmin’s conflicts are solved by Casey. Casey is her friend now so she does not have to worry about nobody liking her. Also, now that Tasmin is in the Secret Club she know everyone secrets and what they are talking about. Tasmin doesn’t have to worry about anything anymore.
A very fun and exciting book about friendship. It tackles a lot of issues many children are faced with in their life, such as moving home, being the ‘new kid’, feeling disliked by someone you don’t know very well and family troubles that leak through into other areas of your life. Even though I’m in my 30’s, even I wanted an SS anklet!
Finding friendship in a new school would be hard. For Tamsin, a little girl that's new to the school, she doesn't stop but look forward to the nerve racking friendship ahead. Recommended to elementary and young kids.
A re-read of one my favourite childhood books!! I loved this book so much, I’m pretty sure I’ve read it at least 5 times. I’m also pretty positive the only reason I originally bought this book was because it’s sparkly 😂 loved it then and I still love it now!
Tamsin’s life is crazy after moving to a new town and starting at a new school. She misses her old friends, and it has been hard for her to fit in. The secret club with its mysterious anklets was intriguing, and I kept wanting to find out more about it. The story mixes everyday school life with curiosity and suspense.
Even for what it is, this book is pretty awful. The illustrations are bland and uninspired. The story is likely to bore the book's target audience (and seven-year-old girls are pretty generous about this stuff). What a mess.
I thought that it was funny because there was two dogs playing in the grass and fell in the grass. One of the dogs was and hot dog kind of dog ant the other one was a terrier. And Tamsin finally joined a club and got an anklet that said SS wich stands for secret sisters club.
