The Blood of Dawn

Rate this book
There’s a beast in Bloodhaven.

Isolde Renault never wanted to be a Vampire, but when a vicious beast starts killing humans in her village, she’s glad for the protection of her supernatural strength. Without it, she wouldn’t stand a chance against a beast who eats people whole.

As a Werewolf, Bastian Thessarian has spent his whole life believing that Vampires are soulless monsters who feel no remorse for the humans they feed on. He’s quick to suspect Isolde of being the killer, just as she suspects him, but they soon realize that the truth behind the beast of Bloodhaven is much more sinister.

Despite the fact that Vampires and Werewolves have been sworn enemies for a millennium, Isolde and Bastian form a contemptuous alliance. As they race to catch the beast before it takes any more lives, they discover truths about the killer—and each other—that contradict everything they’ve ever known. With an irresistible attraction growing between them and the village streets running red with blood, Isolde and Bastian must let go of their old beliefs and learn to trust one another—before the beast of Bloodhaven claims them, too.

The Blood of Dawn is a paranormal romantasy book which features vampires, werewolves, enemies to lovers romance, “who did this to you?”, only one horse, he falls first, spice, and more. Perfect for fans of From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout, Bride by Ali Hazelwood, and the Crowns of Nyaxia series by Carissa Broadbent.

Where do I even begin?! Katherine had me LOCKED IN from the very beginning. I loved Isolde and Bastian so bad. The way they come together had me FERAL. I mean c’mon, a strong werewolf who finishes in his pants? YEAH…I was done for 🫠

Fast paced full of mystery, betrayal, lies, tension, the shortest third-act break up and ngl a bit predictable BUT hear me out, the journey with these characters was so worth it and so much fun to experience, I’d read it all over again from the beginning. I can’t wait for book 2 to get more of our MCs hehe

💌 Thank you so much Katherine O’Malley for the eARC! Releasing Oct 1st ♡

This was a really fun read-- and perfect to get you into a Halloween/fall vibe! The Blood of Dawn is fast-paced, dual-POV, and filled with angst, mystery, and well-done spice! The lore and plot was easy to follow and not so complex that you lose the story in the details like other supernaturaly books can read.

O'Malley does a great job offering MCs that don't read like all of the other romantasy MCs. Isolde is bold and strong, but is incredibly in touch with her 'humanity.' Bastian is sexy and strong, but also incredibly confident in who he is as a man and with showing what some (not me) might call weaknesses. I enjoyed watching their relationship evolve, and am excited to see how the author continues the story in the second book!

I was honored to be selected as an ARC Reader for first time and without giving any kind of spoilers all I will say is:

I ATE THIS SHIT RIGHT UP. NO CRUMBS.

I am excited that there will be a second book (and hopefully be selected to be another ARC Reader for that as well) and it thankfully doesn’t leave you with a massive cliffhanger at the end!

Book is released October 1st just in time for the spooky season commence !

When I say 6-star read, I am referring to books in my life that have left me speechless, that have punctured a hole in my heart that will never be filled, or have simply changed something inside of me. I have a handful of these books. And now I have one more. Maybe not everyone will find this book a 6-star read for them, but I am going to tell you why it is for me. Before that, I want to say I fell in love with Katherine's writing style before this book, and received this as an ARC. All of my reviews are my genuine thoughts and feelings (I am crying while writing this, soooo buckle up).

As someone who did not want to become a vampire, Isolde is very grateful for her strength when a beast begins attacking the village she lives in. Enter Bastian, a Werewolf who, of course, believes a vampire would be a suspect of such brutal attacks. Until they both realize something much bigger than them is going on. Deciding to team up despite the obvious fact that they are supposed to be enemies. While discovering things that don't add up, and make them question things they are supposed to know as facts, a bigger bond may be growing.

I've always loved hunting for plot twists and foreshadowing in a book. For me, it makes the story that much more interesting. With a beautiful balance of subtle foreshadowing and breadcrumb hints, I was hooked. While the intrigue in the beginning had me hooked with questions and curiosity, the middle of the story had me entranced. (I read from 52% to the end in one sitting). Something I loved was feeling the messages through this story. Trust, compassion, and sorrow. Moments of this story spoke to me on a level I cannot put into words. The final plot twist was not what I was expecting, yet I knew it was coming. Throughout the whole story, I felt this consistent pull to keep reading, to keep learning about these characters and where the story is going to take them.

Isolde is now my new book girlfriend. This baddie had my heart and soul. Not only as a very hot vampire, but also the soul she carries through this story. Her whole existence makes so much sense, and I felt as if we were one while reading. I won't leave Bastian out; he makes a very solid MMC. Honestly, there were moments I wished I were Isolde with him around. Both of these characters had an amazing depth and a unique experience. A side character I loved was Aggie. I can't really tell you why, but I loved her appearance in this story. There was just something about her that I liked a lot.

So my favorite thing to mention is the spice! There is a VERY healthy amount of spice in this story. Yet, it is not overpowering or repetitive. I also loved the wording in these scenes; at no point did I get the ick or cringe. The overall balance of plot and spice is well done. Complementing the story in all the right places. While I try to leave tropes out of it, I am just a girl and SWOONED over the "who did this to you?". I believe I had crashed out to be more accurate. I should have counted the number of times I dropped my Kindle and stood up. My emotions were all over the place. And I loved every moment of it. While I will not be sharing my unhinged highlights and notes, I will share one note I left with absolutely no context: "I am going to fucking yeet this kindle into the wall".

As I stated before, 6-star reads are very far and few between for me. I have maybe 4 other books that have ever received this privilege. I can't put the feeling into words because there are no words to be had. There is a piece of my soul that now belongs to this story. While this was an anticipated read for me, I never expected to fall in love with it this much. I also LOVE vampires, and this is the first vampire story to make it to 6-star for me. I now plan to spend the rest of my night staring at a wall. I am so appreciative to not only have gotten this book as an ARC but as early access as well. Thank you, Katherine. I am honored to have been able to read this and connect the way I did.

I’ll begin by saying thank you to Katherine for the eARC of this book.

It is my first read by this author and overall it was okay. The writing and plot was not something groundbreaking for me that had me pull into it as I hoped it would. As a person that reads and watches so many books and movies with werewolves and vampires I am looking for something edgy, dramatic, well-written, and intense both plot line wise and sexually (I found the “spicy” scenes to be a bit cringe). I found the connection of both the FMC and the MMC to be too quick for my liking. It was almost instalove which I dislike. I am looking for slow burn, a buildup of a relationship, and a setting that go hand in hand with their narrative.

I did find the “beast” and everyone’s looking for who that is to be interesting and fresh in some way. The pacing was quite fast and I did read it in less than 24 hours.

This book is by no means bad, the premise is good but the execution and to my personal taste is not a favorite at all.
I am always on the lookout for books with vampires and werewolves since my first love to them started while watching Twilight.

Ultimately, if you don’t mind instalove, and want something to read without thinking much (because the premise wasn’t complicated); this one is for you.

Wow!
A beautiful clash of vampires and werewolves and a detailed history woven within this tale of forbidden love, hidden betrayal, and secrets lost.
Isolde has spent the last 10 years a vampire - since a fateful night that left her for dead and one woman that saved her life. Isolde is anything far from your typical vampire - despite her change, she still cares and walks with a heart in her sleeve (not literally, don't worry). She's a genuine and hopeful persona - a fresh view of vampires in any story.
Bastian, forced to be the beast he never wanted to be finally seeks solace and safety away from the pack he once called home. If that was home - he never knew the term. If it was love and devotion - the words were just letters arranged in order.
Both Isolde and Bastian carry deep secrets and even deeper trauma, and whilst supposed to hate each other - pinned against each other (literally and figuratively), they find themselves in a dance. One of comfort and one of happiness, fresh air. Despite the confusing feelings blooming, they trudge onwards trying to ignore the attraction for each other - the team up because their goals have aligned.
Find the monster, protect Bloodhaven and kill its reign of murder.
Fighting feelings and revealing their true stories bare - there is no going back, they are forged in blood shared, heartache and trauma. Little do they know they are the puppets in a grand scheme and one they very much didn't expect. Forced to come face to face with the truth and the fact that their existence relied solely on a purpose that doesn't, didn't have them surviving; one last fight, one last chance for each other and love; for revenge and to end a reign of terror and bloodshed. Isolde makes the hardest decisions to not only protect Bloodhaven, to protect her Bastian, but to protect herself. Finishing the puzzle of that fateful night that left her for dead. Turning the tables the night of the blood moon, the night that kept them both alive for this moment, this entire time and upending the plans of those least expected, ones loved and trusted - Isolde takes her life back. Despite the pang in her chest, the pain, every emotion she never thought that would wreak havoc on her courses through her cold veins - she wields the knife, the dagger; the final blow. Saving not only herself but Bastian too and changing their entire life as they know it.

A powerful, thrilling and raw story that was more than instant attraction and lore, it was a bond of fates and protecting those who need it most. Amplifying that family, blood or found, can turn on you. To take life as it is and live it to the fullest and love with all their beings. If they must be monsters, they are going to be monsters that protect and serve. Such an amazing, exciting and engaging story. I am excited to see where Book 2 will take Isolde and Bastian.

Underworld meets Romeo & Juliet.

What to say about this book? I was in the middle of revising the outline for book two of my series when I made the mistake of starting this ARC read. Only because when I started it, when I read that first line, I had no idea it would consume me.

Isolde and Bastian aren't your typical enemies-to-lovers romantasy couple. They have been raised with the ideology the other is a soulless monster because of what they are. Even still, they are drawn to each other. And their fascination with the other, even while trying to stop a blood-thirsty monster from wreaking havoc on their slice of peace, draws the reader in. You're unable to stop yourself.

From the very first chapter, the tension in this book grabs you. It takes hold of you and doesn't let go until the very last line on the very last page. Isolde and Bastian don't just learn to trust each other. To rely upon each other. They heal each other. They heal together. They learn each other. They are the kind of love we all yearn for. Every moment they spend together has you gripping the book, turning the pages faster and faster, begging to know what happens next. Hurtling them, and you, toward an ending that is.... spectacular. And humbling.

The character arcs of the FMC and MMC are amazing. All of their longings and desires and yearnings, both for each other and for lives of their own, leap off the page. Isolde and Bastian come alive in the words. So much so I was sad to reach the end, because my time with them was up.

And with that, I am eagerly anticipating the second book in this duology. Hats off, Katherine. Job well done.

This is a 5 star read for me. I was instantly charmed by the charisma of our two main characters. The chemistry jumps off the page and you're made to believe in them as an end goal almost immediately. O'Malley is very good at setting suspense, at times I was even a bit scared/nervous. However, I'm not sure what was more tense, the elements of fear and the unknown or the steamy 'will they won't they' of the two characters! The tension was palpable!

At times you think you have a clue as to what is going on with the mystery of the beast, but then O'Malley has the ability to change your mind threefold, so you're always left up in the air. I love this as it meant I was truly surprised by the ending.

The heartbreaking 3rd act had me audibly saying "nooooo" and speed reading to get to the next page as quickly as possible. It genuinely hurt to read. But O'Malley delivers a wondering ending with a fantastic redemption arc and utterly mindblowing twists. Although at parts, I wanted to get through quickly to see what happened, I savoured every page. I didn't want the book to end and now I'm left yearning for book 2. This book can be read as a standalone as the storylines are brought to a end, but I will be chomping at the bit for the series to continue.

The Blood of Dawn - Katherine O’Malley

I really loved this book. This isn’t my first forbidden love, romance with vampires and werewolves, but I enjoyed the added tropes of the sire line and I love the who done it mystery aspect with the different attacks the place on the town. The writing was also very fun and engaging and so were the characters even the side characters. I really liked the chemistry between Isolde and Bastian, it was so interesting to read. There were so many hints and twist in the story that when the mystery was finally revealed my jaw dropped. I can’t wait for book 2. I am so invested in this series. I also can’t wait to see if Everett has a bigger part in book 2 and what happens to Isolde and Bastian

I loved it! If Romeo and Juliet were a werewolf and a vampire this would be the story Shakespeare wrote!!

The story sees Isolde, a vampire 10 years turned, and Bastian, a werewolf two-ish years turned, fighting to keep a mysterious monster away from their village. Vampires and Werewolves have a history of fighting and are currently surviving under a pact since the blood war nearly wiped both species out- this is beautifully explained at the beginning of the book.

Obviously, things happen, the two help each other with everything they are contending with, both physical and mental. This book dealves a lot into past traumas and parental expectations through life and the impacts this can have on the ability to function 'normally'.

This book kept me guessing at who/what the "monster" attacking the village was and why it was happening. The only reason it was dropped 0.25 star was because during part of the book I felt like the story started to stagnate a little as not much happened and I didn't feel that the blood war was explained by the ending.

There is another book planned in this series (as indicated in the last few pages) however this one doesn't end on a soul killing cliffhanger, so it's safe to read straight away!!

Ohmygod I absolutely loved this book!! I could not put it down. The story, the characters, they just draw you in and you can't help but love them.

Isolde is such an awesome FMC! She's strong, she has sass, and I love that she wants to do things on her terms. Bastian...you just can't help but love him. He's broody, he's got attitude but his POVs are amazing. The amount of times he adjusts himself because of Isolde is hilarious. I was giggling and kicking my feet so much just because of his inner thoughts.

And the BANTER??!! I loved it all so much!! Isolde and Bastian just have such good chemistry that you just root for them from the start.

Besides the main characters, The Blood of Dawn has so many well written supporting characters. The plot thickens and secrets come to light and I personally had no idea how the pieces were going to fit together but when they did, light bulb moments. The plot twists were insane, the heart wrenching scenes broke my heart. This book definitely will put you through the wringer but I feel as if the little bits of light heal the soul. I cannot wait to see what happens in book 2.

I’m shouting from the rooftops for anyone who’s a fan of Romantasy to pick up this book!!
While trying to find the beast that is murdering the humans in her village, sensitive and fierce vampire Isolde runs into newcomer Bastian. Broody, protective, and snarky, Bastian sets out to prove that the attacks are not being committed by a fellow werewolf. Mortal enemies, the two are forced together to uncover this mystery. When sarcastic banter and ignorance turns to protectiveness and understanding, the hunt for a beast turns into a greater connection than anyone could imagine.
This book had all of my favorite tropes. Both characters were dynamic, relatable and lovable. I felt personally offended anytime something happened to either of them. Yes, it is a paranormal Romantasy, but there were so many more elements in this book that I enjoyed. There’s the mystery and problem solving element that’s intriguing and had me staying up way too late for answers. This book also explores prejudice snd ignorance between two different paranormal species, which is a theme that speaks to everyone in any time period. As both characters overcome their naive ideas about each other, acceptance and understanding is found. The yearning was mouth watering and the story was fast paced and entertaining throughout! The spice was just enough without taking over the entire plot but enough that I was giggling to myself and lusting after Bastian long after the final page.

Tropes: Enemies to lovers, forbidden romance, forced proximity, he falls first, and “who did this to you?”

Trigger Warnings: Sexual assault, physical abuse, murder, violence, parental abuse

I received this as an ARC, and I'm so glad that I did! It was wonderful. We get enemies-to-lovers/forbidden-love, all in the setting of a world with vampires and werewolves. I really loved Isolde and Bastien, and their dance around each other (including a one horse trope!!) denying what was obvious to us, the readers.

This has all of the aphrodisiac blood-drinking that you want from a vampire story, and lots of spice that you'd expect from that.

There will be a sequel next year, but this doesn't end on a cliffhanger, thankfully, so I will absolutely be waiting in line for book 2 when it comes out (and I really want to know what happens to a certain character who makes a choice at the end that changes the fates of four people, but suffers for having done it), but I won't be AGONIZING over whether the FMC/MMC are happy. I know, at least for now, they are.

I really enjoyed this author's other book, Moonspun, too, so I will definitely read whatever she puts out there!

Arc review.💋🖤 Book 1 of the Bloodhaven series.♥️

I’d love to thank the author for giving me the chance to read this ARC, it’s an honor and it was an amazing experience.♥️♥️

This book was very good, it for the vibes and the I connected with the characters so well. The plot got me hooked, I loved it so much.‼️♥️ I’m such a sucker for an enemies to lovers tropes. All of these tropes were amazing. The way these characters collided, I was stuck and did nlt put this book down. I swear I don’t want to let this go. It was angst, there was a lot of mysteries and the spice and tensions!💋💋🧎🏻‍♀️ I loved it all. I’m obsessed.

Katherine, I’m in love with these characters, I can’t wait for what you have next for the rest of the series. thank you for this wonderful work of art.💋🖤 Happy release day, babes.💋💋💋

Vampires vs Werewolves?! Say no more.

This was an amazing fun read! I was able to finish this book in one day. It's fast paced, has dual POV chapters, and the right chemistry between the FMC and MMC.

I appreciated the plot being easy to follow while Katherine offered lore to help better understand the world in the book

Isolde and Bastian have become one of my favorite couples I've read this year. LOVED that despite they're supernatural beings and being totally different (Isolde being a vampire and Bastian being a werewolf) they are still in touch with their humanity. Both having their humanity made their relationship grow which was so satisfying to watch 💕 had me sobbing towards the end, UGH

I cant wait for book 2 to be released! Will definitely be reading that ASAP

I really enjoyed this read and was captivated by it from the start.

Isolde and Bastian. What can I say? Those two were clearly written in the stars. From their first meeting, these two were at each others throats. All the while were wanting to rip each others clothes off.

Joining forces to figure out who, or what, was attacking and killing the villagers also gave them the opportunity to get to know each other. And dispell some myths about vampires and werewolves along the way.

Succumbing to their mutual attraction led to complications neither could have foreseen. Watching this play out was an absolute pleasure, and I look forward to book 2.

I loved this book. The world building was great and it was such a good story. Isolde (a vampire) and Bastian (a wolf) team up to find a killer in the town of Bloodhaven and in doing so, set off a chain of events that eventually leads to love and also betrayal (not from each other.) Isolde’s doubts and fears, but also the strength she had to keep going made her such a great diverse character to read. I also loved Bastian. His character growth was marvelous. He was able to see outside of the instilled prejudice in himself and unhesitatingly truly love her for all that she is. This story was written so well. I can’t wait to read more in this world.

i went into this ARC not with many expectations. I love a good vampire romance and was keen to try something new with a wolf mmc.

Oh boy this did not disappoint. The well laid out world building entrenched in the mystery of the beast of bloodhaven, the tantalising romance between the main characters. Holy shit, the twist at the end had me gripping on to my seat.

This book does not disappoint if you love vampires, werewolves, loyalty, betrayal, secrets and a sizzling romance, this book is for you.

Wow. This was such a great book!!

This story really had it all... suspenseful fantasy, enemies to lovers, vampires, werewolves, and forbidden romance. *chef's kiss*

I had such an enjoyable time reading this and trying to figure out what the beast was and how all the pieces fit together. I called one of the bad characters right off the bat but was still surprised by the ending which was so fun. I can't wait for the next installment! (This is the first in a duology)

Once I was finally able to get to this ARC that, unfortunately, was buried mile-high in a pile of other ARCs, I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed this little tale. It ended up being a rather quick read that kept me interested. I really liked both the FMC and the MMC. I hated his nickname for her though, Moonbeam? I found the ending predictable but I didn’t hate that. I wouldn’t mind continuing with book two.

Be still my vampire x werewolf heart!

Thank you so very much to the author Katherine O’Malley for letting me arc read this book; I am so grateful. The excitement I had for this was high because I LOVE a vampire x werewolf love story since my OG Twilight days🤣

This book is the definition of a good time. I had so much fun with this! It reads so easy & is easy to follow along; the world building is simple & easy to understand & the pacing was perfection. Also, a crucial aspect for me is the editing; this is edited to almost perfection (I did pick up on the overuse of the word drug as in dragged.)

These 2 MCs are so precious. They’ve both been through! it! but still learn to grow past that & fight for what they want to have together. Yes, it is kinda inst-lust because when they meet, there’s an attraction there but that’s just it: their chemistry is delicious! & the spice slowly starts in the first half of the book; but it lends to their story so perfectly. & it’s done so sensually, not at all overdone/lewd. This is a true balance of plot to romance.

I wouldn’t call this enemies to lovers, it’s more reluctant allies to lovers because they decide to team up on solving the mystery of their village. Due to being of their respective species, they feel they gotta hate each other but get over themselves & work together.

There aren’t a lot of side characters but who we do get are written so well. We do get bread crumbs from the beginning but by the end, I already knew who the villain is. Still, the way it all revealed was pleasantly surprising.

This is book 1 in a duet but can be read as a standalone because it wraps up nicely. So I’m so curious what more we can get with these 2 characters next book.

wow wow wow. this book was such a palette cleanser for me and the best way to kick off spooky season !

i’ve always loved vampires and werewolves growing up, so when i had the opportunity to read this ARC, i snatched it up FAST. the pacing and setting of the book was soooo good. i never felt like the story was dragging in any sense, and i never had an issue with there only being two locations in the book.

the immediate chemistry between Isolde and Bastian had me gasping and clutching my pearls in the best way possible. there’s nothing hotter than a super hot wolf man falling first for the immortal vampire. not only that, but i loved how they grew to like each other in a very normal/typical way (in my opinion)

also, the spice was SOO GOOD for this book ! it hits you pretty fast, and it keeps coming (no pun intended). it was extremely well written and had me blushing constantly.

this comes out Oct. 1st, so if you’re looking for a good spooky book (with a lot of spice 🤭) then definitely grab this !!

Vampires and werewolves oh my!
The action starts right away in the first line.
I loved the thought process of Isolde, she really broke free from her perceptions of the world- embracing the challenges and truth. Question everything.

Fans of books like Bride, Til Death and Daisies Bloom with likely enjoy this book.

Tropes include:
vampires vs werewolves
Dual pov
Enemies to lovers

Honestly, this is one of my favorite books because of the tropes. It has a good amount of spice and an addictive read!!!!

I'm not the biggest fan of werewolf centered books, but I love the way Katherine O'Malley wrote the relationship between Bastian and Isolde, and the dynamics of the werewolf pack.

If you love Van Helsing and the Underworld movies then you are going to love this book!
