Stiles, one of the main characters of the series, Angels and Gargoyles, began his journey on earth differently than the angels against whom he helped Dylan fight. Stiles came later, ordered to come to this world to bring Joanna, his soul mate, back home. Stiles, however, swayed by his soul mate’s arguments, makes the wrong choice and gives her more time on this world only to have her turn on him and leave him for dead with an angel’s sword wound in his side.
Stiles thought he could trust Joanna, that he could trust the angels who are his brothers and sisters. But when he recovers from his wound, a gargoyle shows him the truth of what the angels are doing in this war between humans. The angels want free will, they want the world they were promised and never given.
Stiles must stand up against his brethren, must find a way to protect the humans at all cost. But this fight takes its toll on his soul. Stiles is the only angel who has chosen to protect the humans, the only human who has stayed true to his origins and his Father. It is a lonely fight that will take Stiles to places he never imagined he could go, filling him with pain his soul can hardly handle. But it will also lead him to something like a victory.
I read The Fallen series so it just made sense to continue with these characters. The story lines are intriguing and you become attached to the characters. The only downfall is, it's a series that breaks off into other series. Whilst that is a great idea, it makes for a long commitment, so be ready to be in for the long hall...you're going to want to continue on! =)
Characters are not fully developed. I prefer characters to have more depth of presence. Pace is slow. But, still reading the series . . . Forced to do so because I have to buy the nedt book to keep searching for the depth, full being of characters. I like the twist in plot where Stiles is like a true angel or what an angel traditional is suppose to be like from childhood tales. The twist is that God puts him in a situation to allow him the chance to experience free well which most rebelling angels feel they have been cheated by God. " We were made first, this world was promised to us [angels]." -geneva
I love any book with angels as the subject, and I sooo wanted to fall in love with this one, but it jumped forward too many times, skipping over too much, and just left me confused. Most likely I will be reading the sequels if only to see if this gets better.
