One frenetic runner.
One compulsive helper.
A collision they can’t seem to stop—
And a God who won’t follow their lead.

Always singing Sophie Appel has a system—stay busy, feel later. Austin Scott is the strong and swoony golden retriever of Mayberry University. But lately, it’s all fetch and no naps.
Total opposites. Accidental best friends. And absolutely nothing more, even if the chemistry is sparkier than the pickles electrocuted in Chem Lab. It’s for the best. Really. He’s headed for a porch-swing life. She’s aimed at passport stamps. Their futures don’t match, and scratching the itch for more would only leave them in desperate need of a first-aid kit.
But when one of them goes off script, the pent-up feelings combust into something unruly, beautiful … and dangerous. Egged on by their way-too-helpful found family and the full-blown chaos that is life at Mayberry, they bulldoze through the messiest parts of faith. Like depression, jealousy, family wounds, and temptation. Then comes growth they can’t stomach, imperfect obedience, and a love that costs more than they thought.
It's not easy. Sometimes obedience to the still, small voice looks like inaction. Sometimes a simple prayer feels like a fight.
Why does obedience feel impossible?
Can we ever measure up to who He says we are?

Kristina Welch, you've done it again! 👏🏾 🤩 It was so nice to read about Mayberry University again! This book really showed a very relatable outlook on young adults following Christ! So much learning, obeying, disobeying, showing grace, and forgiveness. I loved Sophie. I could relate to her in SO many ways! And Austin? He loved Sophie so much, yet he found himself worshipping her more than Jesus. Which was something I felt on a personal level. The things that he did for her had me swooning!! 🤭 I have never attended a Christian college, so it was nice to see that aspect in the story as well. Thank you to the author and BookFunnel for a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Oh my goodness! What an amazing book! Once again we're at a college campus spending time with young men and women who are figuring out their futures, their faith in God, and who to give their hearts to.

Sophie is a wonderful character! She's a people person, fun to be around, and loves music. I like the idea of having a playlist for trips! Austin is a young man with a heart of gold. He'd give you the shirt off his back and more. He's a protector and an extremely loyal friend.

Kristina captures the "realness" of attending a Christian college. I've been there. Fun is calling your name, parents aren't around and temptations lurk around every corner. One thing is constant and that is God. He's always available, always listening, and always loving.

There are some intense moments when hearts are hurt and forgiveness seems far away. The epilogue tied everything together in a sweet little bow! I'm already looking forward to the next book!

I was provided a complimentary copy of the book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Kristina Welch does it again!! This is only her second book and she’s one of my favourite authors! I love how she writes the characters having a real relationship with God. Including all the learning, obeying, disobeying, very relatable!

This book is clean, as it handles temptation in a godly way, but just a trigger warning for people who it may bother, there is a lot of intimacy. Also, since Austin and Sophie struggle with not going over boundaries.
But it’s all handled very well, Kristina Welch did a great job, once again!!

This was a cute Christian college romance.
While sometimes romance novels come off light and fluffy, I like that Anywhere dove a little deeper and portrayed depression, trying to establish serious relationships, and juggling life's demands.
When Sophie and Austin finally start dating after months of friendship and flirting, it seems they are perfect for each other. But the cracks in their relationship start to show when life's demands crash in and they break up after they cross the boundaries they set for each other. During their time apart they explore what they mean to each other and how to uphold that in their faith. This book will have your rooting that they find their way together while the supporting cast roots along too.

First, I would like to say that I was very happy when Kristina Welch sent me the ARC for this book because Anything was one of my favorite books I've read this year, and I was very excited to dive into this world again.

In the first book, we follow Kit and Levi's story as they deal with past trauma and learn to be better for each other as they grow in their faith in Jesus. In this book, we follow Sophie (Kit's roommate) and Austin (Levi's roommate and best friend). The story feels a bit similar, but takes a different direction. While Kit struggled with intimacy and couldn't be near Levi for a long time, Sophie's struggle was with lust, and that contrast was really interesting to see.

It keeps the same heartfelt essence and faith-centered spirit of the first book. However, Sophie was a hard character for me to like

I know she had her issues back home, but it was hard to connect with her when she was being mean to Kit in her head out of nowhere. Kit was nothing but a sweetheart to her, and Sophie knew about her trauma. So, seeing her call Kit “Perfect Little Kit” as if she hated her for being happy was really difficult for me. I understand she's insecure, but… girl? Like when she was jealous of Kit cause she thought Austin could think she was attractive... Good thing Austin said she was their friend and he wouldn't talk bad about her.
It's kinda funny that, in book one, Kit said Sophie was perfect because she was so extroverted, and now Sophie is doing the same, saying Kit is perfect because she's pretty.

Most of the time, Sophie came off as a bit selfish. We see Austin doing a lot for her, even giving up rest, while she insists she can't slow down even for him. She hates the idea of a simple, quiet life, but he's willing to give that up for her, and we never see her do the same for him. Not even one night of rest. So yeah, it's hard to feel empathy for her sometimes.

And Austin… poor boy. His people-pleaser nature does him no good. It was already a problem before, when he tried to help everyone in need (Sophie told him that!), but when they started dating, it got worse. The irony is that she was the one saying he should learn to say no, yet she got upset when he was tired and almost said no to a date night. My guy, please go rest and do your homework before you burn out.

When Sophie called his family “his Perfect Little Family,” I almost rolled my eyes. Yes, her family situation sucks, but that didn't justify treating Austin and his sister badly. She felt pressured, sure, but the way she reacted felt immature, and I'm not talking about the overwhelming feelings, I'm talking about her cold answers and apathy. I've read something similar in Some Like It Scot, and the FMC there had a tough background too, but handled it way better. Of course, they're two different characters with different ages but it's hard not to compare when in one situation I felt empathetic and the other I just felt angry.

I do appreciate how the book addressed lust, though. It's a really important topic, and one we don’t see enough in Christian fiction (at least I haven't), and I think it was handled perfectly. I just wish Sophie had been a little more likable, or at least shown she was trying to be good for Austin. Most of the time, it felt like he was the only one trying to keep things right and godly, while she was the one always demanding affection.

Honestly, I'm not sure if I even like them together. It felt like an idealized relationship where both of them created their “perfect partner”. I'm still thinking about it.

I loved seeing Levi and Kit again, though. They're my babies, and I'll never get tired of them. I would read a million books about them. It was so good to see more of their relationship. Even if it was just a little. Kit's family is amazing, too. I read the first chapter of Anytime, and I'm very excited to read book three cause I loved Janie and Mav.

In the end, I think this book covers a very important theme, but Sophie made it hard for me to love it as much as I wanted to.

Thank you, Kristina Welch, for this ARC.

4.5 rounded up to 5 ⭐️
Mayberry University #2 (recommended to read in order)

Anywhere will bring you back to Mayberry University with one of my favorite friends groups ever, deliver great faith arcs for our main characters, and a romance that will leave you smile.

In book 1, “Anything”, we were introduced to Sophie (Kit’s roommate) and Austin (Levi’s best friend and roommate). We got glimpses of Austin and Sophie blossoming friendship and that they might like each other more than friends. As this book starts we get to see them finally become a couple as Sophie has a breakthrough in her faith journey (which I loved reading). While readers will cheer for this new couple, it’s clear from the start (including the author’s note) that their love story might get a little messy. As they face personal struggles that interfere in their lives as well as their relationship they will learn a lot about themselves and what needs to change.

I was so excited to jump back into the world of Mayberry University and visit all the characters I met in the first book. I adored Austin and loved what an amazing friend he was too Levi, so I was excited to for his story. Sophie was the kind of character I gravitate towards, but she had some tension with Kit in the first book that I wondered about, and we get the answers in this one. While I wanted Sophie to get to a better place with Kit quicker, I felt like you can still relate to Sophie struggles. Which is one of the things I love about Kristina Welch’s writing, you can relate to the characters.

I think Austin and Sophie made a really great couple and I love a good friends to more trope! While were some things I could tell would become issues later on in the book, I was also surprised by other things that happened in the book and wasn’t sure to expect. As the back cover mentions this book touches on topics such as jealousy, temptation, depression, and family wounds. While their journey is hard, they grow through it and change for the better.

Things that I loved about the book:
-The friend group and individual friendships are some of my top friendships I’ve read.
-Catching up with Kit and Levi.
-The University setting!
-The strong faith throughout the book.
-Getting to see Sophie and Austin as a couple for a good part of the book!

This book is over 400 pages, but I couldn’t get enough of this world that the author has created. The friendships, characters, and faith reminds me of the Christy Miller series by Robin Jones Gunn. Just like we readers had several stories to revisit those beloved characters, I hope that we get the same opportunity with this series.

Tropes: Friends-to-more, protective mmc, found family, college/university setting, two points of view (pov).

4.5 stars.

I really enjoyed 'Anything', book one in this series, so when I heard about Anywhere I couldn't wait to read it! I was not prepared for the rollercoaster ride this was! My poor emotions!

We are back at Mayberry (before the epilogue of Anything), and this time we get to see the POV of Levi's best friend, Austin, and Kit's friend, Sophie. I loved Austin and Sophie in Anything so was so excited to find out this book was about them!

Austin and Sophie like each other, but Sophie has a boyfriend (not for long), and Austin feels God is telling him to wait. Until he is given the green light. Once they are together, their love is giddy and overwhelming. As much as they like each other, both have issues they need to work on.
Sophie has had a hard family life and has issues with her self-esteem. She hides behind a loud personality, but she is insecure and suffers from depression that comes from time to time bringing dark and twisty days.
Austin is a people pleaser, wanting to do God's will. He pushes himself so hard and never takes care of himself. I could tell he was heading toward burn out, and I just wanted to scream at him to slow down and rest!

I had no idea where this was going to go, and I was surprised by the direction it went in. It gets heavy, and I was put through the emotional wringer! But the ending was perfect.

Anywhere was well written with realistic characters. Welch doesn't shy away from tackling hard topics, shining a light on grace and forgiveness. This is heavily Christian, which I enjoyed. It was great seeing more of Levi and Kit again, and I loved how supportive they were of Austin and Sophie.
I highly recommend if you love contemporary Christian romance that is college set.
Technically you could read this as a standalone, but you will get so much more out of it if you read Anything first.

I am looking forward to book three!

#I was gifted a copy from the author. All opinions are my own, honest opinions.

Content warnings: Spoilers ahead.
No swearing.
Clean with passionate kisses.

Not really any violence, though there is one scene where Sophie is being harassed by a guy at a party and Austin threatens the guy, warning him to leave Sophie alone.

"I am God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for me to do"

After reading Anything, I was really looking forward to this one and it did not disappoint. I loved it! It's charming, heartfelt and centered on themes of redemption, forgiveness, surrender, and pursuing God.

This book is focus on Sophie and Austin's journey from friends to being in a relationship. I loved how Austin prayed and waited before pursuing her. Though I found Sophie's initial doubts a bit frustrating , knowing her past and struggles, helped me understand her concerns.

Their journey is filled with joy, love and adventure, but it also has deep moments around temptation, finding themselves in God and learning how to obey Him. I appreciated both characters having their own personal encounter with God and their active prayer for each other. I think the author does a great job in portraying how there can be consequences when we start doing things are own way and stop having God first in our lives.

I enjoyed revisiting Mayberry, Kit and Levi's relationship and the whole crew. The community and friendships played an important role in this story. Also, the song references and Bible verses were on point.

Like the first book, this story encourages me to pray more in the moment, be more intentional in my pursue of God, reminds me how important is to rest in Him and let Him take control over everything.

I got to ARC read Anything and absolutely loved it, but this second book wrecked me in all the best ways! I’m so glad I got to visit Mayberry again.

Though it’s about college students, as someone who’s been out of college for 20 years, I still deeply related to it. Through this story, I encountered Jesus—I was convicted, I sobbed, and I worshipped.
Anywhere follows Austin and Sophie, two college students seeking God, stumbling along the way, and learning about forgiveness, grace, and redemption. The playlist was such a beautiful touch—since Sophie loves music, hearing the songs mentioned while reading made the story even more immersive.
I loved the found family aspect, especially knowing Kit and Levi’s story and getting to see their crew again.

If I could give this book six stars, I would! It’s funny, heartfelt, hard, and beautiful—but most of all, it points straight to our Heavenly Father, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus, who walks with us through every season of life.

It’s like Kristina said, “Come get on the Texas Giant with me and try not to scream.” I hopped on this roller coaster of a sequel and rode every wave of fresh emotion, movie reference, college vivin, boot scootin’ frenzy and came out like I always do on the Texas Giant at Six Flags - “Let’s do that again!”

Seriously hats off to the author for writing pages that made me giggle, lol, and straight up snort. Pages that made me cry, swoon, sweat, and my blood run cold. I loved Sophie and Austin and feel like they are part of my friend group now. Thank you for all the great movie references u had to pull out of old storage and for the amazing playlist I now have of Austin’s Songs of the Day! Find her playlist for Anywhere- it’s amazing!

Thank you for sharing these characters with the world, I am psyched for the third book!!!

As a fan of faith-based romance, I was excited to dive into this book. I found it overall engaging and a heartfelt, meaningful read.

What I Love
I loved the weaving of romance, faith, and real-life challenges in a meaningful way. Having read her other book, Anything, I was looking forward to this continuation with different characters in a similar setting.

The relationship between Austin and Sophie felt grounded. Their faith plays a real role in their growth. There is more than just the "pray about it" mentality, but practical, real-life questions, struggles, and obedience don't always fit the pray about it narrative.

What I didn't like:
The pacing felt a bit off depending on where you were. Some scenes moved quickly. Especially their romantic development. It felt very brushed by.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book!

Thank you to the author for this eARC. All opinions are my own.

I only read it because I hoped book 1 was just a fluke. It wasn’t.
Everything wrong with Anything is back, only worse. The new couple has the emotional depth of a children’s church play, the “faith struggles” are still solved with one tearful prayer and a hug, and the dialogue is somehow even more cringe (“I just want to glorify Him with this relationship” — who talks like that?).
The writing is still amateur hour: telling instead of showing, endless inner monologues about how perfect and godly everyone is, and pacing that feels like wading through molasses. I caught three typos in the first fifty pages.
This isn’t messy faith. This is sanitized, toothless, youth-group fanfiction that somehow got published. Save your money and your brain cells. There are actual talented Christian romance authors out there. This isn’t one of them

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for at honest review. Kristina Welch has written an amazing Jesus loving romance between Austin a golden retriever energy who loves to care deeply for his people, Sophie who loves Jesus and tends to run when people get close to her. They both want to follow what they think God is leading them to, but lose their ways with their own desires. You get to see people that love God, what to find love that honors him and still are learning as they go. You get to see Austin and Sophie go through ups and downs, grow closer to God and learn how to give as well as show love to each other. They grow so much throughout the whole book, this is a sweet, clean romance where both characters love Jesus. I absolutely love Kristina’s writing and can wait to read more of her books!

Anywhere by Kristina Welsh

Another beautiful read from Kristina. There’s something so special about stories that follow young adults on their walk with God while also navigating love and romance.

For many people, faith and romance don’t seem to go hand in hand but in reality, they often do. It’s such a true reflection of life. In moments like these, you have to lean into faith, trust God, and remember that forgiveness and prayer are key. I loved both Sophie and Austin.

I’ve never experienced a Christian college firsthand, but this book gave me such a genuine glimpse into what it’s like.

The pace of this book was great. This is a book I will go back to because it has so many beautiful gems.

Thank you for my ARC.

As always, Kristina has delivered an impeccable book with Jesus themes, Jesus moments, and SO many relatable scenes.

Sophie and Austin navigate their relationship, from best friends to maybe more, in this adorable, swoony Christian rom-com.

You know how they say there should be more Christian rom-coms? I disagree, we need more Christians writing rom-coms. This is a perfect example of that. Kristina's faith bleeds straight into this book, as it did with the first one, and I love it.

I already can't wait for book 3!

This was another wonderful trip to Mayberry, this time with Sophie and Levi. It’s a rare time where I think I like the second book in a series better. It may be that the struggles they had are closer to the ones in my own life. Depression is real, not hearing the message is real, the self doubt, the mistakes, the losing yourself, the lack of self care and numerous others made them so much more real to me. Mostly I loved the hope and the found family with an amazing support system. The epilogue gave me everything I hoped for with them. Hundreds of books read and this is the one with the most annotations in it. Mostly for personal use as I aspire to do better with my own faith.

Sophie and Austin both have attributes that I strongly relate to, and to read about them working through it with God and together was a beautiful thing to witness.
This author has such a beautiful writing style that seamlessly weaves cultural references, inner thoughts, descriptions and dialogue together.
The story has excellent pacing, great character development and layering, and immersive world building.
This book was captivating from start to finish and I couldn’t put it down.

Kristina Welch has us revisting Mayberry University with characters from her first novel "Anything". This book centers on Sophie and Austin's relationship and I loved this even more than the first book! The storyline was so relatable, including real-life struggles while also seeking God's wisdom and guidance. This author fills such a void in young adult romance--I would not hesitate for my high school daughter to read this; in fact, this will be a Christmas gift for her for sure! 4.5⭐️ So relatable. Loved the verses and songs referenced through out. A wonderful story of forgiveness, values, and love. Sophie is struggling with her convictions and the life she’s left behind. Austin too wants to hold fast to his convictions while still getting what he wants. There’s definitely something more than friendship between them. However, they are so different. Can it truly be a good idea when one can’t hold in their feelings anymore.

Thank you to the author for the gifted copy. It was such a great, easy read.

Simply Beautiful!

🍂Sophie and Austin's story was simply beautiful! It was not easy by any means but it spoke to a reality in the struggle of following the faith and battling temptation.

🍂Both POVs were raw and so unique to each character. I loved their journey and the friends that they had around them through it.

🍂Not only do the main characters stand out but the side characters too. It is simply a well rounded story.

🍂10/10 recommend!

This is a continuation of the Mayberry University series where we get to dive into Sophie and Austin's story. If you've already read the first book, Anything, it's wonderful to encounter characters like Kit and Levi again. Once you get immersed in this world, you can quickly identify some of the friend dynamics and how they really care for one another. It's an age where learning to speak the truth in love goes a long way, and it's wonderful to witness how so many characters are growing in this skill. It's also helpful to see how Gen Z is applying their faith to the scenarios they're facing in a realistic manner.

Where this book shines is in tackling a difficult subject head-on without glorifying sin and without minimizing its effects on the characters. I appreciate that the author is able to write sobering and gut-wrenching emotional scenes that make you feel like you're alongside Sophie and Austin at Bible college. With older mentors available to provide wisdom, this is a book that gently nudges readers to witness the pitfalls of putting a romantic partner above God. If you're looking for a youthful story with an injection of pop culture, Anywhere will have you excited to see how Christian young adults are being discipled and sanctified in their walks with God.

Clean and gushy all at the same time

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this gushy romance set on a college campus. This book in the series moves from Kit and Levi (in Anything) to Sophie and Austin. How fun to follow these college students as they experience the real life thrill and challenges of college life while loving and obeying Jesus in an often complicated and confusing world!

Anywhere is book 2 in the Mayberry University series by Kristina Welch. It’s best to read Anything (book 1) first since a lot of that story’s plot is referenced in Anywhere.

This book was even better than the first, with the characters again feeling quite real to me. Their Christian college experiences (both good and bad) are also realistic—it’s clear the author is writing from her own experience (at least in part). Even though my Christian college experience was three decades ago, I can vouch for it being a messy mix of Christ-following and falling short. I loved how the author shows that Jesus will forgive our mistakes (no matter how “big”). I also appreciated that the author included older adult characters who give the college kids good biblical counsel.

If you like books with…
•friends to lovers
•college setting
•friend group = found family
•opposites attract
•imperfect Christian characters
•faith-filled story
…then you might enjoy this book!

I gave Anywhere a full 5⭐️. It kept my interest and I wanted to know how things would turn out. The ending was so sweet and satisfying. I loved it!

Older high school students (16+) thinking about attending college (especially at a Christian college) might really enjoy this series. I’d highly recommend it as a fictional glimpse into the reality of some of the potential struggles that happen at college and to learn through these characters’ experiences.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.

Another amazing book from Kristina Welch! She has the greatest writing style. I was so glad to be back at Mayberry with my favorite characters. Austin and Sophie are completely adorable together.

This book was on another level of swoony. Book 1 was amazing of course, but book 2 entered into the romance way faster which was really fun.

Austin is literally the greatest. I loved how much he adored Jesus and how much he cared for Sophie. Honestly, they were so cute as friends-who-wanted-something-more. All his thoughts about Sophie prior to and during their relationship were on a melty level of adorable. Example: "I would sell all my possessions and join the circus as a personal favor to her. If she said my name while making the request, I’d really do something nuts like . . . become a vegetarian. A vegetarian zombie." 🫠 He is also just the master of saying and doing romantic things for her. He made mistakes but grew a lot in his faith, which I love.

Sophie has such a bubbly personality. She is so fun since she loves music and compares people and situations to song lyrics and movie quotes. I loved to see her grow in trusting in the Lord as a newer Christian.

I love how we get to see so much of Kit and Levi again. They are seriously adorable and such good friends to Soph and Austin ❤️❤️

The faith aspect of this book, again, was so encouraging to me. These books, in my opinion, are the ideal christian contemporary romance books. I love them

The book does contain some mature content and a lot of kissing, just as a warning to those who might not prefer that.

Favorite quote from Austin about Jesus to Sophie (😅): "He’ll have to be the one to give you everything. And I’ll be praying hard he does. But whenever I get to be the one he uses, I’m so there. Every time." C'mon 😍

And now I am PUMPED for Anytime.

I received an advance copy of this book and chose to leave this honest review. All opinions are my own.

'Anywhere' is another charming and heartfelt addition to Kristina Welch’s campus romance series. The story once again captures the nostalgia of Christian college life: goofy group dynamics, sweet friendships, and the joys and struggles of young adults who are trying to glorify God in their relationships.

This time, Sophie and Austin take center stage, and their story feels especially engaging. I loved that Austin waited on God before pursuing Sophie, and once their relationship began, it felt so real; full of both joy and the challenges of learning to date your best friend well. Their journey also digs deeper into themes of temptation, identity, and how to abide in Christ even in weakness. These moments are handled in a real, non-judgmental way that still keeps God and His ways at the center. Though this book wasn’t as personally relatable to me as the first, it was refreshing to see a contemporary romcom engage honestly with questions of how to date faithfully when so many different opinions exist about what that should look like.

I’ll admit, it was sometimes hard to watch Sophie and Austin reach breaking points, but it made their growth feel that much more real. The romance was steamier than Book 1 while still remaining low-spice, and I appreciated the way their struggles were written with honesty and hope. On the lighter side, I loved seeing Kit and Levi’s relationship progress, and I’m already eager for the couple teased for Book 3. I think their story will provide a fun and fresh shift for the series.
