Alaina is the CEO of Purpose Linked Consulting (PLC), a firm she founded over 20 years ago. PLC designs custom leadership, development, and coachin programs for a wide range of organizations, including several Fortune 500 companies.
Before launching PLC, Alaina served as Executive Director of Human Resources at Merck & Co., where she supported more than 15,000 employees globally. After starting her own firm, she developed a science-based framework called Passion Archetypes™, which explores how individuals’ passions at work connect to their sense of purpose. She also created The Passion Profiler™, a tool that helps people identify what inspires them to be creative, grow professionally, and thrive in the workplace. Her approach is grounded in research on identity and human motivation.
In 2009, Alaina co-authored The Purpose Linked Organization (McGraw-Hill), which explores how leaders can inspire high-performing teams by aligning work with purpose and passion. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she observed a shift: people were rethinking their priorities and realizing that purpose and passion were impacting every area of their lives—from careers to relationships and even how they faced personal challenges.
This insight led to her second book, Permission to Be You (coming September 9, 2025). In it, Alaina shares the same tools and insights she’s used with clients for years, now adapted for our personal lives. The book features compelling stories and key life moments that highlight the importance of passion-centered living. Readers are encouraged to reflect on what truly motivates them and can access guided tools online to support their journey.
“Permission to Be You” by Alaina Love is a compelling and deeply practical guide for anyone seeking to reconnect with their purpose, passion, and authentic self. Love’s framework, rooted in years of research and leadership experience, shows how our innate passions can drive not only personal fulfilment but also stronger performance and more meaningful relationships at work. Her writing is clear, engaging, and grounded in real stories that make the insights feel both accessible and immediately applicable. This is not just another leadership book, it’s a roadmap for rediscovering what truly energises you.
What makes this book stand out is its blend of science, humanity, and actionable wisdom. Love challenges readers to step beyond the expectations and labels that often shape our identities, inviting us instead to lead from a place of authenticity and purpose. Whether you’re a leader, an aspiring leader, or simply someone feeling disconnected from your work, this book offers powerful tools and reflections that can help you realign your life with what matters most. “Permission to Be You” is inspiring, practical, and, ultimately, liberating, a must-read for anyone ready to embrace who they really are.
In the many years I’ve spent publicizing business books, I’ve finally found a genre bender that’s half-leadership half- self help! A welcome blend and very timely for the kind of leadership that leaves an impact, on both the individual and the organization.
This book was a great blend of self help and business expertise! Alaina uses her own life experience as well as experiences of people she’s met throughout her life to illustrate examples in each chapter. If you are not looking to gain insight into how to improve your business, this book will help you gain insight into yourself. I have yet to do the Passion Profiler, but I look forward to learning whether I am correct about what I think my top Passions are. This book is very well written, and Alaina’s voice comes through in every sentence.
