Magical Mayhem

Rate this book
They saved the town once. But magic always keeps the receipt…

Stonewick is thriving. The Academy is open. Magic hums through the Wards again. And Maeve Bellemore has grown into her magic and found purpose among Stonewick’s cozy chaos.

She’s fought shadow, deceit, and doubt with her midlife magic. But this time, the danger isn’t invading from outside. It’s rising from within. A forgotten path, buried beneath laughter and light, begins to pulse with power no spell can contain.

Something is wrong.
Something ancient.
And it’s waking beneath the town.

If Maeve can’t stop what’s coming, the curse will look like a warm-up act…
And Stonewick will fall from the inside out.

A rich blend of cozy fantasy and midlife magic, this next chapter in Maeve's journey is filled with wit, warmth, and a rising darkness that refuses to stay buried.

At this point I am just rage reading this series and finally I can stop at this one. Every time we are told "hey this is the bad guy and this is how we maybe defeat them" the story goes like "hey look, we did the thing but you know what....that wasn't actually the bad guy" It is exhausting.

Oh, and this side character you met like a few times which had nothing but positive vibes...yep that character is a bad guy and helped the new bad guy get away. Or hey this misunderstood person we kinda resolved as turning a new leaf...yeah...they are bad after all. It is manipulative and exhausting.

The amount of navel gazing and the main character being the ONLY person who can solve things but "hey the true power is in collaboration"...but only on MY terms. I can't stand it.

Thank god for Kindle Unlimited where this doesn't cost me anything to try to skip just for plot points so I can move on with my life. But this one finally broke that need in me.

I have been enjoying this series despite the increase in violence and weird subplots. I'm done - it's just getting too odd and seems like the author is stretching to find more plots to add to the series. I will miss some of the characters but not enough to continue the series.

Battle comes to the home front for Maeve at the Academy. It’s a fight to the finish - prevail or perish. Good against the worst of Shadowick Evil in Stonewick and Maeve cannot back down, she gets up close and personal with the Darkness.

Though Maeve, Keegan, Stella, Ardetia, Nova and Bella, grandmother Elvira, Skonk and Twobble,
lady Limora and her allies, Karley and the gargoyle family, along with a host of community members and support fight together, there are some whopping shockers.

Such an entertaining series, with intriguing and hilarious characters that all manage to flow into a cohesive, flawed and fabulous family of choice that band together to fight Evil. The ending is a total mindblower for those reading through the series, and an absolutely worthwhile read

Overload of Magic

Ok. Let me start by saying we got some resolution…finally…but that was the longest, most drawn out non-sensical finale of a fight I’ve ever had to endure! I got tired of all the repeat flames and fury that couldn’t stop anything! In the end, Maeve was sliced across the chest so hard she went flying backward and lost her senses, but when it was all over, she didn’t appear to be suffering at all. Time is always their enemy regardless of who they are fighting…and the beat goes on…everyone is just a puppet!

Classic and Also Timely

Fantasy literature changed my life from a child who hated reading to a literature major and high school English teacher. That change came in the form of Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.
DK Bolton carries on the tradition of writing that brings each scene and character alive. Woven into the world of fantasy is a vital contemporary message; only through unity and light will we overcome division and darkness. It’s time to forgive and join forces against the darkness, anger and hatred that are dominating too much of our world.
