Enjoy this Contemporary Small Town Sleuthing Couple Vigilante Murder Mystery
A series of attacks on men accused of beating their wives or girlfriends puts Myerton's police force on the trail of a group of female vigilantes. Suspicion falls on Nina Hallstead when her ex-husband, now the pastor of a church that broke away from First Baptist Church, is found beaten to death. Is Helen's former chief of staff guilty, or is someone else responsible?
The Anonymous Avengers is the twenty-fourth novel in The Mercy and Justice Mysteries, a contemporary small town mystery series. The series is a sequel to The Father Tom Mysteries that began with The Penitent Priest and includes the same cast of characters. It features Father Tom Greer, a Catholic Priest who is also an amateur sleuth in the tradition of Father Brown, and his wife Helen Greer, female Chief of Police and detective in the tradition of Kinsey Millhone.
J. R. and Susan Mathis have delivered another unputdownable Mercy and Justice mystery. A series of assaults are occurring in Franklin Park to men who were accused by their wives of domestic abuse. While dealing with those cases, Myerton Police Chief, Helen Greer, her staff, and her husband, Father Tom Greer (who always assists in Helen's cases), investigate the bludgeoning murder of Oscar Murray, the ex- husband of Nina Hallstead, Helen's former press liaison. Who assaulted the Franklin Park victims? Who killed Oscar Murray ? Were the cases related? Find out the answers to these questions by reading this intriguing book, which I highly recommend to other cozy mystery readers. I received an ARC of this book, and the opinion expressed is strictly my own.
Chief Helen Greer learns multiple men have been brutally beaten in Myerton. The only thing they have in common is that they have been accused of beating their wives or girlfriends. How will she solve these crimes when the majority of the men remain silent. Things heat up when the controversial pastor (and ex-husband of the police department's Chief of Staff) of a church is found dead.
I am a huge fan of Mercy and Justice Mysteries series. The Mathis team delivers a well thought out plot and a memorable cast of characters. While this is a series, a reader can jump in at any point and quickly get up to speed. I highly recommend this book and the entire series!
I received an ARC of this book but the opinion expressed is my own.
Always anticipate the next book in this series, and “The Anonymous Avengers” did not disappoint! Good to reconnect with the characters, learning more about the psyche of a few. Helen grapples well with intuition and evidence, and is able to provide clear communication as she wraps it up. Thanks for another great read!
