Fragments of Us is a heart-stirring contemporary romance about grief, healing, and the unexpected ways love finds us when we’re broken.
Hazel thought she had her future mapped out until the sudden loss of her fiancé shattered everything. Now she runs The Daily Grind, the small-town café they built together, pouring her heart into coffee cups and avoiding anything that reminds her of what she’s lost.
Luke is a single father fighting to hold onto his daughter after the tragic death of her mother. Grief-stricken and desperate to prove he’s enough, he’s blindsided when Hazel walks into their lives with warmth, understanding, and a quiet strength that stirs something long buried.
Drawn together by pain but bonded by hope, Hazel and Luke must navigate what it means to move forward without forgetting the past. In a town full of memories and second chances, they just might discover that love doesn’t always happen the way you expect… sometimes, it begins with the fragments left behind.
Perfect for fans of slow-burn romance, emotional depth, and stories of rediscovery, Fragments of Us is a poignant, powerful debut about love, loss, and the courage to begin again
Hi, I’m Haylie Hogge, a filmmaker, writer, and storyteller who loves exploring themes of grief, healing, and rediscovering hope. My debut novel, Fragments of Us, is a story close to my heart about love, loss, and finding light in unexpected places.
When I’m not writing, I work as a special education teacher and bring my creativity to life through filmmaking. I studied Arts and Science at Blue Ridge Community College and have spent the past five years directing, producing, and writing for my independent film company, O.R.E Studios.
I’m passionate about human connection and the power of stories to help us heal. Most of my inspiration comes from everyday moments, old films, and the quiet beauty of second chances.
Fragments of Us is an absolute emotional powerhouse, a deeply gripping story that burrows under your skin from the first page and doesn't let go. The author masterfully crafts characters whose struggles and triumphs feel intensely real, drawing the reader into a narrative arc so poignant and raw that it's impossible to remain detached. Dealing with profound themes of loss, resilience, and the enduring nature of love, the writing is beautiful yet unflinching, creating several moments that are truly heartbreaking in their honesty. Seriously, if you don't want to cry, don't read this book; it is a profoundly moving experience that will leave you emotionally exhausted but ultimately richer for having gone through it.
This is the romantic book of the year. Highly recommend for any and all romance lovers.. be prepared to cry, and laugh as you travel through Hazel and Luke's world.
