She is a shy, quiet wallflower who never imagined she’d marry the Season’s most eligible bachelor. And he never imagined marrying without love, only to find himself falling deeply for the very wife he thought he didn’t want.
The Honorable Ismay Hampton, the quiet daughter of a viscount, never dreamed she would become the Marchioness of Ashford. Until a hunting accident thrusts her father into the path of a grateful duke. An arrangement is struck, and Ismay finds herself wed to the handsome and much coveted Marquess of Ashford. But Nathaniel Denham has no intention of embracing a loveless union and abandons her immediately after the wedding without so much as a glance beneath her veil.
Three months later, determined to salvage what little future she may have, Ismay journeys to London… only to suffer an accident that lands her in the arms of a kind stranger. A stranger who happens to be her own husband.
Haunted by his forced marriage, Nathaniel flees to Town, until he can gather his courage to face her and his fate. But when a captivating and brave young woman enters his life under dramatic circumstances, his resolve begins to waver. He cannot risk betraying his vows. That is until he discovers the girl who has awakened his heart is none other than the wife he left behind.
This is a sweet, Regency era romance with an arranged marriage and mistaken identity tropes. Expect an abundance of yearning, sizzle, and some groveling.

Wife Unveiled, a Vows Before Love Regency novella, was about the Honorable Ismay Hampton, the 23-year-old daughter of Viscount Hampton, and Lord Nathaniel Denham, the Marquess of Ashford, the son of the Duke of Westergate.
When Ismay's father saved the life of the Duke of Westergate during a hunting accident, she never expected the results to be a marriage arranged between her and the duke's son. She and her family arrived at Nathaniel's home 3 days before the wedding. At that time, she overheard a conversation in which the duke told his son that he only needed to wed and bed her, but that he could continue his lifestyle however he chose, even to the point of continuing to seek love elsewhere. On the day he married Ismay, he never lifted the veil to see her face, so he never knew what she looked like. He promptly left the house for London before the wedding breakfast was even served.
Ismay found herself abandoned in the country by her new husband, who chose to live in London to continue with his life as if nothing had changed. Three months after his desertion, Ismay was convinced by a new friend that she should follow her husband to London. On her trip, their carriage broke down and she found herself wandering through the crowds. At one point, she saw a young girl being accosted, and when she tried to intervene, the man turned on her, only for Nathaniel to intercept before something horrible occurred, although she found herself injured by a knife the man had been carrying.
Once she had recovered from the incident, Nathaniel sent her away, totally unaware that she was his wife. It wasn't until later that his male secretary remembered who she was and informed him of her identity. Once he was certain she was his wife, he chose to play some head games with her.
While this was just a novella, short and sweet, it still had all of the angst, drama, and an emotional rollercoaster fit for a full-length novel. There were no spicy scenes, but the chemistry was definitely apparent between the two main characters.
Both of the main characters were fully developed and mature. However, with the book being so short, there wasn't much time for any growth to take place, so it was more rushed than it would have been if it had been longer. It was an enjoyable story that deserved a high rating, so I gave it four stars.
Am I utterly and madly in love with this story? YES
It’s so so lovely I don’t event think I can do it any justice with a review. Actually, I’m afraid that it will make the story seem like less than it is.
But since I personally do like to know what tropes are used in a book and if they’re used well before starting a story I’ll do that here.
-Arranged marriage 10/10 -Poor girl, rich boy 9/10 mostly because that’s not the focus -Wallflower gets the guy 10/10 -You’re my wife (not sure if it’s a trope but it has these vibes) 100/10 -Mistaken identity 10000/10 -He falls harder 1000000000/10 (oh he fell for her and he suffered)
And that cover 🫠
If you like Regency romances even a little bit… READ THIS
I originally found this story because the author posted a TikTok showing how they made the cover design themselves, and I loved not only the simplicity of the design, but also the little bit of story that was given with it. So much so, that I immediately went to download it.
And honestly? This novel had a lot of good parts. It was cute, it was clean, it was quick (I read it in just a couple of hours). I loved the premise of a husband being so disinterested in his wife that he doesn’t even bother to look at her on their wedding day. In a genre where so many husbands at least want to consummate the marriage before abandoning their wives, this felt like a genuinely fresh take.
Where this one lost me, though, was mostly in the length. Because it’s so short, there’s very little character development, and nothing really standing in the way of their happily-ever-after. Nathaniel and Ismay don’t meet or even exchange a greeting before their wedding vows, which, to be fair, is the entire point of the story. Nathaniel’s bitterness over being forced into the marriage by his father makes sense, especially since he wanted a true love match.
Fast forward a few months later to when Ismay finally comes to London on the advice of the one friend she's made while living in his country estate. Nathaniel meets her and doesn’t recognize her… yet it’s somehow love at first sight? Circumstances push them together, and Nathaniel spends most of the time internally battling himself because he’s promised to remain faithful to his wife, even though he’s drawn to this woman.
I really wish the author had explored that tension more. I would have loved to see Ismay get the “day” she asked for, or even have that stretched into several days. I feel like giving them time to actually get to know each other would have added emotional weight and given them something real to overcome. Especially when the letter from Nathaniel's wife finally arrived forcing Ismay to reveal the truth, as I suspect Nathaniel would have been far more irate than relieved when the truth finally came out. I feel as though this could have made for an even more satisfying resolution between the two (especially when you take into consideration the fact that Ismay had no problem standing up to him in the scene we did get).
That being said, I absolutely see the potential in this author, and I’m very much looking forward to reading more from them.
Really cute palate cleanser novella. Would have loved to see this as a fully fledged novel though.

Absolutely loved everything about this book! Swoon worthy regency story that keeps you captivated up until the end. I’ve been sick the past couple days and so I couldn’t give much attention but today I when I sat down to read, I needed to know how this beautiful story ended. If you love regency stories that end in happily ever after then this is the perfect book.
In the dull in between days of part 1 and part 2 of bridgerton season 4 I found this little book! It’s a short little regency love story, definitely a quick read. It’s nothing crazy, but it is a nice peaceful book! There’s not a lot of character development or world building but nevertheless I did enjoy it!
This was a wonderful regency novella! I loved Ismays kind heart and at first I wanted to scream at Nathaniel but towards the end I understood him and loved how it all came together. Such a fun and easy read!
If you’re looking for something that is extremely cute, quick to read. Then this is your match. It flowed well. I can’t wait to read more from this writer.
