The third instalment in the best-selling post-apocalyptic zombie series set in Australia.
Battered, heart-broken and with infected amongst them, the main group begins the long journey south to Melbourne in pursuit of serum supplies and passage towards a safer life beyond.
In the heart of the city, Dylan’s sister, Lauren, battles to unite the last fragments of a fractured group, fighting starvation and enemies both living and dead. Meanwhile, Jacob leads a handful of survivors south following the Campbeltown massacre.
At every turn, separate forces plot against their objectives. As the invasion grows stronger, the intent of the threes becomes clearer and what awaits the converging groups in Melbourne is far worse than any of them could have imagined…
I live in Melbourne, Australia with my wife and three children. I grew up reading Stephen King, Richard Matheson, and Jean Auel, amongst others. I love hearing a good story, particulary with a fantastic element, but my bookcases are filled with an eclectic mix of authors. My writing is the first priority of the day before I head off to my full time job!
As I read the last 50 pages in this outstanding book my heart was racing and I was literally biting my nails and holding onto my husbands stuffed lion in an iron grip. I finish the last page and I swear if you had been anywhere in the vicinity of my mother in laws apartment I would have slapped you sideways from Sunday with my Kindle. Really??? A Cliffhanger?? Do you realize how cruel that was? How inhumane?? After several minutes of absolute despair I read towards the end that in Book # 4, even though you are going to a completely new set of characters, you promised to reveal what will happen to the current group. If you don't, you will be responsible for making a grown woman cry. You don't want that do you?
Spoilers May Lie Ahead!: Book three marks the end of our POV being pointed at this particular group of characters - but they will be seen again according to the author. I am interested in seeing the transition into a new cast of people and how it plays into the wider scope of the apocalyptic event. Especially when it comes to this new onslaught of Threes...😊
Again, phenomenal, can't put it down writing presented by Owen Baillie. The series is fantastic, but I would suggest starting at Book One. Enjoy!
I have really enjoyed following this series and am waiting with much anticipation for the next book. If you love apocalyptic adventures all 3 books are a must read. Baillie has created characters with dept that you are cheering for and even cry with. Keep them coming.
I absolutely love this series. Survival in a Zombie infested world at its best. Well written, fast paced, great characters. No stupidly obvious plots or characters. Owen has nailed it.
I may not have read every Zombie book, but I sure have read a lot of them. This series is better than 99% of them.
Owens characters make some great decisions in terms of priorities eg around protective gear, vehicles, destinations etc.
His Zombies have more dimensions to them which keeps things on edge as the characters become more proficient. You may even shed a tear (not me of course ;) )
I love the sneaky day dream about what I would do in a zombie apocalypse... This vivid and 'realistic' book added ideas and vibrancy to my day dreams.
Read it... You know you want to
Owen: Yes, as you say we can pardon you doing it once but never again please. Your too good a writer for that cheap tactic
Meh. Pages and pages of "he ran, there was no other way, he jumped, he shot". It's supposed to be all fun and action, but it's actually pretty boring.
The characters continue being dumb. And the plot gets sillier and sillier. I mean. The zombies can communicate? Sure. I can buy that. TELEPATHICALLY!? Please. I'm already buying that zombies exist. Don't push it.
And I thought this was the last book of the series. Nope.
Good series. I recommend this series to all the zombie story lovers. This series are a good change from the usual because you don't normally see too many books that takes place in Australia. And as much as I like military type characters where the people are though and know what they're doing it is good to see normal everyday people doing the fighting.
I have read all three books in in three days! Loved them all! This series gives you a little bit of everything, action, love, zombies, crazy survivors and much more. I have read many zombie series, some are like watching a b movie. This series is so much more!! I loved every minute! This was the best zombie ride I have had in a long time. I can't wait for book 4.
Smashing read, you get to know the characters and just thinking bout what they have to go through gives you shivers. Nice to read an Australian story for a change, thanks Owen
Another great installment! I enjoyed this one, and it is a nice spin on the genre. Although I am a purist when it comes to zombies (slow, massive hordes), this has a nice spin. Sort of with a little bit of "28 days later" thrown into it. I like that it takes place in another country, as I am in the U.S. and like another perspective. I appreciate this one, it really kept my attention!
I really, really enjoyed this book, it’s chock full of interesting characters and a marvelous plot. I don’t do spoilers so read the authors blurb about this book, it’s enough to let you know about it. I cannot wait to see if our survivors make ! Grab a copy and find out yourself.
I'm not a fan of cliffhangers because I'm impatient! I've really grown fond of the characters and hope there's a good ending to their story and we come across them again. I bbc e enjoyed the series so far and will continue reading it when I can.
I am enjoying this series, it's well written and believable! Following Dylan, Kristi, Callen an the rest of the group to Melbourne to find Dylan's sister and get to Tass and possible safety. They encounter danger at every turn.
Love this series! I read this book in one sitting (seriously). Awesome! Can’t wait to find out what happens to all of them. Will Dylan turn? Who will hook up with whom? Is the island safe?
Liked the Aussie characters and general plot but disappointed with obvious Stupid choices approach to story telling. Why didn’t Eric just stay in the van! However I couldn’t put it down so that says something. Will wait for completed series before reading the next books.
I found this series about 5 years after the release, like the storytelling and perseverance of the survivors. I have to go download the next book! Thanks
Yet another fantastic novel by this outstanding Australian author! I loved the first two books in the series but I have to say book 3, "Escape", is probably my favourite so far.
True to form, Baillie has kept up the pace of the first two novels. There's something about this quick pace that just builds momentum and makes it hard to put the book down. As always, the characters and their relationships are a focal point and I love the sense of community that is developing. This book also further expands on the virus and it's impact on the infected, the changes they are going through, all of which adds an interesting layer to the story.I also love the way the book is structured. It's essentially divided into three interconnecting story-lines, each with their own set of characters, and the result of this kind of structure is some "mini" cliffhangers during the course of the book. And whilst we're on the subject of cliffhangers ... what a finish this book has! It definitely leaves you desperately wanting to know what happens next!
And yet again, Mr. Baillie delivers an amazing journey that will capture your heart. The will to survive in all the characters, is felt with every page you turn. You will not put this one down. The need to read what will happen next is an addiction. The many obstacles that the group faces is written with such emotion and detail, you will continue to want/need to know what will happen around the next corner. Callan has taken a chance to break away from the group to find Blue Boy and hopefully Kristy. Dylan has taken a chance to find his sister. Harlan has taken a chance and left his safe haven. And many more have taken a chance to escape. Then the cliff hanger, Owen leaves you hanging by your finger tips. Love it. Another 5 star by Mr. Baillie.
I hate Cliffhangers! The last few chapter's had me on the edge of my chair, legs jiggling frantically, heart pounding.... and now I will wait patiently (sorta...) For the next book, sigh... This series Rocks! Anyone who likes dystopian books should READ THIS SERIES! Now that my heart has stopped pounding, I will say THANK YOU Owen! And please please don't make us wait to long for #4! Brightest Blessings~ MystycWytch
oh no !! BIG NO !! What a cliffhanger , did'nt expected it there , after book 1 and 2.... And the problem is Mr Baillie wanted to finished another series before starting book 4. For this only reason I wish a put on 1 star but can't.
Because of the story plot, the characters, the action, and hope of a famous tale about surviving (struggling) in Tasmania....
This installation as well as the others were all a good read and I really look forward to the follow up series as well. They have a good Story line that makes you feel like cheering for the good guys and crying for their losses. It's hard to find a sci-fi with such believability. Story
Great characters that I really cared about. Many strong female characters which other books lack sometimes. Not too much focus on weaponry, which is always a plus for me. I'm hopeful the fourth book in this series is out soon.
This book is a good read. I liked the characters. But I don't care too much for the constant reminiscing. It seems a bit much. Still looking forward to the next one.
Great sequel. Still waiting for the wildfires.....Good read and can't wait for next book. Not sure about how they get out of this mess but sure it will be tasty
