A darkly funny contemporary thriller for fans of House of Hollow, The Society of Soulless Girls, Wilder Girls and A Good Girl's Guide to Murder
When a boy in her town starts claiming that a demon is stalking him – Alecto Gray has no choice but to investigate. After all, that’s exactly what her brother Lucas said, right before he died…
Soon, Alecto’s investigation leads her to a far-reaching conspiracy – with two warring factions at its heart – as she uncovers a sinister underbelly to her small seaside town.
Armed only with her razor-sharp wit and a talent for getting into trouble, Alec endures threats and kidnappings, and even the spark of a new romance, in order to get to the truth.
But can she handle the truth or will the twisted darkness at the heart of the mystery destroy her as well?

Trigger warnings are listed at the end of my review.
I had high hopes for Alecto Gray Will Hunt You Down, but I was a bit disappointed. Based on the description I expected a thriller with humour and a supernatural twist, but instead found a book with female rage, trauma, and the cost of grief and revenge. That in itself is good, it just wasn't the book I was expecting, and I don't think that's entirely on me.
From the description I was expecting the stalker demon to be a main part of the story, but really this book is about rape and injustice. I was really surprised at how fast this book went from a supernatural thriller to a story about rape and sexual assault. The opening chapter had me hooked, I had so many theories about what could be happening, but my excitement soon turned to disappointment.
I found Alecto to be a difficult character to read about. I couldn't tell if she was meant to have "not like other girls" and "cool girl" vibes or if her character was poking fun at those stereotypes?
For a book described as 'darkly funny' I didn't laugh once. And I really didn't like the ending. Am I meant to feel sorry for the rapists who died? Am I meant to dislike the woman who took revenge? I guess this book just really wasn't for me.
Trigger warnings- • suicide • mentions of rape & gang rape • attempted rape on page

DNF at 67%. I simply cannot make myself suffer anymore.
This book is marketed all wrong. It’s toted as darkly funny but there’s nothing funny about it. From the description you think it’s going to be a supernatural story and it morphs into this dark story about rape and the characters themselves were just so hard to get on with. Not for me. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my earc.
