Seriously wtf?!? I managed to read past when the FMC, who is walking home at night, hears a dog barking and wonders if a “cunning thief” is around and her deciding the best way to deal with that possibility is to PUT IN HER EARBUDS AND PLAY MUSIC. But when she gets home, finds her just released from prison violent ex in her house, and she reminds him that he tried to kill her and then just three paragraphs down thinks “I had actually been expecting his release at any moment, and I was wondering if we could get together again.” I was done. You just said he tried to kill you and last night you were wondering if you two would get back together when he got out?!??! WTF is wrong with you?
I have a few gripes about this book. Firstly it seems very jumpy. For example there is a brief moment in the book where Helen says she recognizes Chase, its very brief and for several chapters we dont hear anything about that previous encounter. You nearly forget about the half a sentence and then several chapters later (mid way through the book) she finally explains that they've met previously and the brief little tid bit is brought up. there are several examples peppered throughout the book like that. Secondly I dont think the author has any understanding of how police procedures work. When a warehouse is broken into Chase automatically assumes that Helen's ex is to blame. Instead of gathering information and compiling evidence, he marches over to the ex and point blank says he knows that said ex had committed the crime. When the ex tries to deny it Chase turns to the crowd and asks them if they seen the ex break in. Now I dont claim to be an expert on police procedures, but Im almost positive thats not how thats done. Lastly Helen is as bout as smart as a box of rocks. As she's walking home late at night she hear a dog barking, instead of being alert of her surroundings she puts in her earbuds and turns up her music. If that isn't enough when her ex gets out of jail and confronts her, her very first thought is if they were going to get back together. Now some would argue that abused partners will often times go back to their abuser, but the tone of writing almost makes it seem like an off handed decision. Not something deeply personal or frought with emotions.

This book is so terrible and terrible for many reasons. The way it’s written. The complete lack of understanding of how law enforcement works or how geography works. There are also so many little things that distract. Like one minute the sheriff (?) is dressed in civilian attire but the FMC is unbuttoning his uniform. Or how she lives in a small apartment that magically turns into a house with a veranda and sitting porch. This is semi-spoiler but suddenly there is Native American protests and random characters being constantly introduced. I’m not even going to touch on the romance or lack of. It is basically them hooking up and him constantly leaving to go do his sheriffing (I’m writing it that way because that is how the author writes) job. The virtual voice narration is so high pitched everyone sounds like child and with the elementary level writing – it is just so bad.
I did not enjoy reading this book. Helen Cosgrove is a 28 year old waitress working in a small town. An accountant by education, she moved to the town with her ex-boyfriend, with a plan to start a new business. He became a drunk and beat her up before being incarcerated. She stayed in the town, working in the local cafe. Chase Walker is the new sheriff in the small town. He is 43, an Army veteran with combat experience. He has a sad backstory with his dead brother and his former fiancee. They had met previously on Tinder while they lived in New Jersey. This time, they hit it off. The story centers around their attraction and the deadbeat ex-boyfriend. The writing style is awkward. I don't recommend the book.
This was ok. The characters were likable and had a bit of chemistry. The dialogue was a bit stiff and awkward. It got exciting when her ex caused trouble, and Chase saved Helen. The supporting characters were well-written and interesting. I am not sure if there is or will be another book about Mia. This one brought her up a lot, so now I’d like to hear her story. I wish it had gone deeper into Chase and Helen’s love development, but it kind of skipped around. Overall, pretty good, and while it was slow in some spots, I would read a book about Mia or some of the characters in this story.

A sweet story, with a slow build heated romance, secrets, danger, insecurities, fears, second-chance love and a HEA.
Helen and Chase meet when he starts as the sheriff in a small town. Their attraction for each other is spontaneous, but with his past Chase is cautious. Helen can remember meeting him before, though he doesn't seem to but is keen to offer help with an ex who is trying to get back in her life.
A lovely read with age-gap romance, mystery and plenty of emotions.

She stayed after Greg's first attempt to harm her. But that wasn't the first one. The first one would be unfolding your entire career for a man who was not worth the effort. But then there wouldn't be a story. Both she and Chase were hurt by people they loved. They were just instantly attracted to each other. I didn't feel the chemistry with them because in my opinion, they moved too fast. That's just me though. I love the slow burn romances. Greg just lost his mind thinking about Helen with another man and that was his undoing. I enjoyed trying to figure out the "who dunnit". I love reading a little mystery in the stories I choose to read.
Helen only wants to start anew with her life after her ex causes serious trauma to her. She has put that episode of her life behind her and has garnered the attention of the new town's sheriff but when her ex makes a dangerous come back trying to get her back will Chase be able to protect her from him and get their chance for happiness. This story is filled with thrilling twists and turns and kept me connected to Chase and Helen.

I truly believe that if a romance book has an eye appealing cover and a prologue that makes the book sound like you need to read it like this book right here by Kathy then you just scored an amazing book. Chase and Helen are going to leave you breathless, knees weak and breathing heavy like you just ran a marathon. OMG let me just say this this romance book is a perfect 10 star read and I loved the storyline and HEA ending. Trust me if you don't have this book in your kindle ready to read your missing out on some terrific writing by an author, I absolutely love reading her books.
This us such a beautiful love story about two people Chase and Helen who fell in love but problems with her ex is putting her in danger again. Greg left her for dead after after pushing her down the steps, he was sent to prison but he's served his time and wants her back. This time he is more dangerous as he believes she sent him to prison when it was just an accident. This is just a sample of things to come that you will just have to read this book just to find out what happens next.
Chase Walker is the new sheriff in town, he meets Helen and is instantly attracted. Her ex is now out of jail and is coming around to cause trouble. What he does not know is that they met years ago.
There is a lot of ex drama and those that is caused by Chase. There are time when it does not feel like they will hit their stride.

-A suspenseful, emotional romance about healing, love, and second chances. I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.
Helen’s dangerous ex returns, shattering her hard-won peace, but Sheriff Chase is determined to keep her safe. Their chemistry grows even as danger and past trauma threaten to tear them apart.
Gripping, heartfelt, and full of devotion, this is a small-town romance with high stakes and hope.
Helen and Chase were both looking for some reprieve, him from his grief and her from her ex-boyfriend. Together, they are able to find a deep connection, but accepting it was the slow burn to their budding romance. This story had some suspense as well as some spice, which was wonderfully woven together into a great read.

I kept reading with the hope this book would improve. It did not. Sophomoric plot premise, nonsense dialog, weak character development, total lack of understanding of law enforcement procedures and terminology, no concept of geography and sloppy editing combine for a hot mess. Ms. Asher excels at tossing in steamy sex scenes and then has her hero walking out the door, repeatedly. I cannot recommend this book nor will I continue this series.

I enjoyed this book, character were true and the plot was real. Just knowing that the ex was a crazy abusive type was scary enough but knowing that he was also a stalker was out there terrifying. I felt really frightened for Helen. I was so happy that she found Chase again and that they made it work. Thanks.
Wonderful story about how life can change so quickly and when You least expect it! She survived her ex- boyfriend abuse. Working hard to get herself back to a normal life. Then a new sheriff comes to town and the ex is released from jail what else is coming? You have to read this book to find out. Love It❤️
This is a steamy, sweet and suspenseful age-gap romance. That's kinda like a second chance romance in a way. With a great story and character's that I would absolutely recommend.

This is book two in this series Hot Silver Foxes and my first. This is a new author for me, and I am looking forward to reading more from them. This is an age gap men in uniform romance story. The characters are likeable and have great chemistry. A fun read.
this story was an ok read some moments were really good and others were ... so like pulling teeth to get thru.. some chptrs were skimmed because it was like a filler to take up space .. at least for me :) But all in all it was an ok read
Book did not hold your interest!!! Found it lacking flow and plot. Would definitely not recommend. Had to force myself to continue. Hope lived eternal.
