This is the first story released as part of The Undead Presents, a new project publishing fan-written fiction set in the world of RR Haywood’s The Undead.
Written by RC Ellis, a debut author and long-time fan of the series, Cornwall is a standalone story that captures the tone, grit, and chaos of The Undead. This is a fresh, original tale of survival told from a whole new corner of the outbreak.
Callum thought debugging code in an isolated Cornish barn was as bad as life got. Elliott figured waking up before noon was a genuine crisis. Jessica’s mindfulness retreat was supposed to save her sanity. Lisa just wanted a peaceful life. And Tomo? He’d be happier if the tourists stayed off his farm.
But when a strange infection begins to spread across Cornwall, turning everyday people into red-eyed, feral infected, the quiet life becomes a fight for survival. Thrown together by fate, sarcasm, and sheer desperation, this unlikely group must battle wave after wave of undead in a county that suddenly isn’t so sleepy anymore.
When the dead rise in Cornwall, even a peaceful life comes with killer complications.
Survival. Sarcasm. Zombies. Just another typical day in Cornwall.
Different and yet familiar. Set in the loved Undead world, but written by a new author (I should have entered that competition), this is a very welcome return to the zombie world. Some nods to the past and references abound, the story is fun and completely addictive, as all the other Undead books are. Even the plot has a strong resemblance of other Undead books, but it is more than able to stand alone. I felt the same emotions when the team fused their emotions together, just like the original books, so kudos to that feat.
I suspect this book has been strongly controlled and managed to stay in its respective lane, so it would be great to see more from this new author.
Great side story to the main undead series. I really enjoyed reading it and very interested in what would happen on the next step of their journey. I think what RR Haywood has done is a brilliant idea and gives new writers a chance to get their names out there while giving fans of the undead series more books to devour. If RC Ellis writes another book I would read it.
Took me a while to get into this book. But once I did I was in til the end! It had me hooked, couldn’t wait to be able to pick it up and read some more. I liked the fact the chapters weren’t very long, it made it easier to read ‘just one more!’ It gelled really well with RR Haywoods series. Well thought out and well written. I look forward to maybe reading some more from RC Ellis.
It was very enjoyable and set at a frantic pace, but the problem I have is it’s just like the undead, to much like the undead. The characters are making their mark and the story line is quite brisk, so what’s not to like, part two will probably make it for me, whether I still buy the books or just wait for RR Haywood to continue. Jessica is the main character like Huey, they will follow her and make a good team.
Great spin off from a fantastic series. I love how thw author managed to capture the spirit of the original series in this short story. The fantastic little hints at the original books and characters gave me chills. I was gutted when it ended, I ready to see what happens on next with the Mount and the journey across the sea!
Really liked it. The nods to the original story are subtle and well done.
The story is pacey and really fits the world but stacks up all on its own. I do think a bit more character depth on a couple of protagonists would’ve been amazing, but that said I read it all in 3 days so clear I enjoyed it 😉
I love the undead series, and I have been eagerly waiting for the books in this project to appear. And this book does not disappoint. So well written, I could not put it down. It fits perfectly into the undead series - and as a major fan of RR Haywood, I feel that is the highest compliment I can give! !
I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about this but I was surprised how quickly I got into it. You can see the underlying style of RR Haywood and at times it feels a little like the plot regurgitated with new names & locations. You get over that as the book wears on, it becomes less predictable and with a perfect ending to open the way to further books
What an excellent job by RC Ellis staying true to the world created by RR Haywood. The connections to our beloved Howey crew was seamless and so clever. The writing style shows the commitment to keeping us enthralled with fast moving action and character development. Cheers!
Well done, RC Ellis that was just brilliant, I throughly enjoy it. You really captured the vibe of Mr Haywoods the undead universe but at the same time made it all yours. You should be very proud. This book has it all
I genuinely loved this , Great stand alone novel set in the undead world with subtle nods to R R Heywood characters Please please write another I need to know what happens next ! Thank you for a great story x
I hate to give a bad review especially to a new author, but I could not get into it. I think I am spoiled by the regular Undead series, which I have read the entire series twice and waiting for Undead day 34.
