This is one of those books that made me stop and wonder -- How did the author DO that? The writing is just smooth. When an author makes the reading effortless, to me that shows real skill!
First, the dialogue in this book is great. I mean, REALLY great -- the kind of dialogue that reveals the characters' personalities and moves the action efficiently, is believable, and flows. Second, the characters are vivid, understandable, and whether sympathetic like the heroine Mira Braun and hero Rocco DeStephano, or repelling like the character of Otto Braun, they are not predictable.
I really like Mira. I still don't know how the author made such an interesting character. She is given a way of being -- a controlled demeanor and a gift for clear communication that makes her deep and evident suffering from being lied to, abused, and used seem honest and understandable. She is not histrionic about it. But she is determined to never be in such situations again. I couldn't help but admire her.
Rocco is also very interesting, and a most attentive lead. Hard-working and determined, he is appreciative of the hand-up he was given in the construction/engineering sector. And when he must keep a secret his mentor has told him, it is clear his dilemma is of the type that is one of the most difficult with which Life can challenge a person. I couldn't help sympathizing with Rocco in this situation.
I loved that neither Rocco nor Mira were involved with anyone else for the three years after their first encounter. This says it all about their fated match -- but they are on their discovery curve just the same, and it is fascinating to follow them on that journey.
The last chapter is full of that super dialogue this writer excels at. Rocco and Mira are in the Amalfi coast villa he has renovated for her, and their revelations and declarations of devotion are just perfection. And the scene in which Mira meets the family of her biological father is also just so well-done -- loved it!
This is Book 2 in a duology with 'Business-Deal Bride'. I enjoyed both these stories immensely.... Thank you to author Dani Collins!

Dani Collins knows exactly what she's doing and this book proves it. Mira and Rocco have the kind of combustible chemistry that makes you read faster just to get to the next scene. The revenge plot gives the story real emotional stakes, this isn't just two pretty people falling for each other, there's genuine pain and history underneath all that tension. Rocco is brooding and frustrating in the best possible way, and Mira holds her own against him beautifully. Collins writes Harlequin Presents the way it's meant to be written, lush, intense, and completely addictive. I read it in one sitting and immediately wanted to go back to Book 1.

Mira had been ignored and not loved by the man she thought was her father. Then meeting Rocco and having an instant attraction to him and then thinking he was toying with her, was more than she could tolerate. Finally after both Rocco and Mira had been miserable apart they were reconciled and found their happily ever after.
