Living in the Texas Hill Country, with her four children, Jolene’s life, much like the stories she writes, is filled with faith, family, football, art, laughter, dirty dishes and all of life's wonderful messiness.

Jolene knows that, as much as the world changes, people stay the same. Good and evil. Vow-keepers and heart-breakers. Jolene married a vow-keeper who showed her that long kisses and dancing in the rain never gets old.

This is the third book in The Ranchers of Rio Bella series, and it is also part of the K-9 Companion series. This story is about Isaac DeLeon, who is a veterinarian and is autistic, and Martina Bravo with whom he went to school and crushed on. A high school prank led to them losing touch, but not the feelings. Martina is unexpectedly back in town and finds a dog on the side of the road, so Isaac helps her and her new dog. Both of their families are very involved in their lives, and the family love is obvious in both families. While this is a second-chance story about Isaac and Martina, it also shows that autism does not limit a person’s ability. I voluntarily read an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

TRUSTING THE VETERINARIAN by Jolene Navarro is the enthralling story of Martina Bravo, diplomat, and Isaac DeLeon, veterinarian, and their rekindling of a friendship – and maybe more.

Martina had always loved spending time with Isaac and had thought of him as her best friend. She knew he looked at things differently, but she loved the way he would explain things. She was crushed when he pulled such a humiliating and public prank on her. She’d ended up leaving town as soon as she could. She worked hard and now had a very successful, often times stressful, job with the Foreign Service in Spain. It was her fainting spells, the last one caused her to fall down three-flights of stairs, that had her back at Rio Road Ranch on medical leave. The doctors hadn’t been able to diagnosis the cause. The last person she expected to run into was Isaac.

Isaac had always been different and knew it. He had a way with facts and often related all those facts if he didn’t stop himself. Martina had been the one person that he could just be himself with. With his strong feeling for her, it was easy for her brother to convince him to do what he did. He knew immediately he’d embarrassed her. He’s always wanted to apologize. Isaac had finally been diagnosed as a neurodivergent on the autism spectrum. It made it easier to understand his life and how to handle it. Finding animals easier to relate to than people made going into veterinary medicine an excellent choice. It is a field he’s been exemplary in at the local clinic. Now Martina is back. He wants nothing more than to apologize and hope for her forgiveness.

When the injured dog lives and Martina adopted her, is it possible Isaac can help train her as a service dog to warn her for her fainting spells? Will finding out the truth about that embarrassing prank have Martina more willing for forgive Isaac for his part in it? Can they regain their friendship of the past or is it possible it’s even stronger now? While home, can Martina use her skills to help Isaac’s dream of an equine center come true? In turn, will Isaac’s words to her grandmother have Martina rethinking if her dream job is being a diplomat?

TRUSTING THE VETERINARIAN is an exceptional story that will keep you turning pages as you feel the tug of emotions. Jolene Navarro gives us a story of friendship, second chances, understanding, forgiveness, trust, family, romance and wraps it in a wonderful thread of faith. TRUSTING THE VETERINARIAN is positively a FIVE-STAR book that I highly recommend to everyone!

While TRUSTING THE VETERINARIAN is the 44th book in the K-9 Companions series, it can most definitely be read as a standalone book.

I received an ARC of this book with no requirement or expectations of a review. All opinions are completely my own.

Great story about the healing helpfulness of animals

Isaac DeLeon is driving along the road when a car pulls over to the side in front of him. When he also pulls over, he finds a hurt dog. Then his high school friend Martina, who he had hurt badly long ago, showed up from the other car. They worked together to get Ruby, the name they gave the injured dog, into his truck to take to his veterinary clinic. Martina has been sent home from Europe after a fall down 3 flights of stairs and because she keeps fainting or having seizures. While they work to help Ruby heal, they get to know one another again. But Isaac's life is in Texas, and she is planning on returning to Spain for her job. Could they ever be more than friends? Read this to find out!

The pace is engrossing and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with a character centered storyline that has no steam. The characters are vivid and endearing. Isaac struggles with social clues because of a late diagnosis of autism. That struggle is the main focus of this story. There is some discussion about Christian ideals, but it does not seem to be a major aspect of the story. There are at least 2 other books that deals with the DeLeon family that happen before this one. You can read them in any order, but chronological order makes it more meaningful in my opinion. Enjoy this sweet story with a huge love of all animals and a very different type of hero!

I voluntarily read an advanced reader's copy of this book for an honest opinion.

Martina Bravo has returned to Rio Bella temporarily. The first person she encounters is Isaac DeLeon as they rescue an injured dog.

Martina a Isaac were friends in school until a prank destroyed the friendship and Martina left town.
Can this wonderful, sweet dog help with reestablishing the connection they lost.

Isaac is autistic. I have been looking forward to Issac's story, and the refreshing option of a flawed hero. Once again, Jolene Navarro does not disappoint with the insightful look into Isaac's challenges.

I highly recommend this book!

I really enjoyed.

“Trusting the Veterinarian” was an unexpected book. Isaac has Autism but has learned with the help and of his loving but protective family to deal with it and has become a successful veterinarian.
His best friend in High school was Martina who has been in an important government job in Spain. She has come home because she has begun passing out. They find an injured dog they name Ruby who becomes Martina’s service dog. They also become closer as time passes and begin working together toward Isaac’s dream of a horse rescue ranch, a Therapy Center for children, adults with PTSD.

This is a new author to me. This story had a harlequin sweet feel to me. Isaac Deleon is neuro and an animal whisperer. He really wants an equine center. He has always loved Martina Bravo who is home from Spain to recover from an unknown medical reason. There are past hurts, overbearing families, and learning to trust in each other again.
