I’m Fiona, a single mom and overworked chef. Definitely not ready for the brooding stuntman who is my sexy neighbor. Dash is hot, mysterious, and allergic to shirts. He also growls. Literally. Now I’m in the middle of something way weirder than I ever anticipated, and the only person who seems to know what’s going on is my one-night stand from my past… who just happens to live next door. Send help. And snacks.
This book has the makings of a great shifter book. But in the beginning, it's quite confusing. We start off not knowing who anyone is. This woman and her son are moving into a new place for a fresh start. She meets the neighbor, and nothing in the text states or implies she knows him. Yet later in the book, she had a one night stand with him 3 years prior, and her mother used to own the house. It jumps around in the beginning, and it's not giving any clue to the time jumps. You have to figure that out on your own. Once you get further into the book, it gets better.
I wanted to enjoy this book, the synopsis looked to be one I would like. That didn’t happen. It’s very hard to follow. Things are disjointed and don’t flow in a way that you know who the players are, what the problems are or how they will play out, at least not until the last 1/3 of the book. Fiona and Dash could have been a great couple. Beck is a magical being ( maybe fae, it’s not clear why he does magic out in the mundane world). Things flit from one thing or another and I just couldn’t enjoy it. 3 ✨. I received an ARC from the Author and I’m choosing to leave this review.
I liked the premise of the story and thought for sure that I would enjoy it. It wasn't a bad story but honestly it just didn't click with me. I was confused about what was happening for most of the story. Eventually I did get it and things made much more sense. I'll certainly give the author another try.
