She came to fix his team. She never expected to be wrecked by the captain.
HER: My shiny new PhD has landed me my dream job: fixing the world-famous NHL titans, the Chicago Comets. I'm told the team is playing with all the grace of a giraffe on a Slip 'N Slide and I’m the miracle worker they’ve brought in to sort out their heads.
There’s just one problem, and he’s six-foot-three, built like a god of war, and has a scowl that could curdle milk. Liam O’Connell. The team captain. He thinks a psychologist is the last thing his team needs, and he looks at me like I’m a particularly annoying species of insect he’s deciding how to squash.
I should mention that my entire dating history is a big fat zero. I’ve spent my life buried in textbooks, which means my experience with men—especially grumpy, ridiculously hot athletes who radiate enough effortless physical superiority to give me imposter syndrome—is less than zero. My sensible blazer and I are not prepared.
HIM: Another shrink. Just what my team needs. Management thinks some woman with a clipboard and a PhD can fix a losing streak. The last "expert" they brought in broke one of my best players, and I’ll be damned if I let that happen again. Dr. Carter is a problem I’m determined to get rid of.
The real kicker? She's not what I expected. She’s a walking, talking distraction in a sensible blazer, with intelligent eyes that see way too damn much. She argues back, she doesn’t back down, and she looks at me in a way that makes me want to push her against a wall and kiss that sassy, professional mouth of hers.
I’ve got real wars to fight, secrets that could get people killed. The last thing I need is some brilliant, beautiful woman trying to get inside my head. She thinks she’s here to fix my team. She has no idea she’s about to break all my rules.

The FMC and MMC go head to head in this novel. She is strong and confident. He is protective and strong-willed. There is some intrigue in the story and we don’t find out until later what’s going on. There are some secrets, as well as some surprises in this book. I loved the strength of both of the main characters and was hoping they would get together. Mistakes were made in this novel with the two main characters. There was some sweet spice, too. This book was intense in most parts. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I liked the prose and the premise was very unique, but the book took a long time to get moving. In her efforts to create a sense of mystery, I think the author just ended up confusing the reader in the beginning. I felt the chapter lengths were a tad short and found the chemistry between the MCs a little lacking. It was bit all over the place to be honest, and could use another go over with an editor.

I really tried with this one but I ended up DNFing, which I absolutely hate doing. The language is awkward, the story bounced around too much and the transitions between the chapters wasn't very seamless. I had high hopes with the blurb and dedication page, but it unfortunately did not meet expectations.

I loved the story between Madison and Liam. Nice, sexy and comfortable read. Totally recommend it, I love hockey romance novels, I've been reading a lot since forever and I really enjoyed this one! Don't miss it!
