When blood began to run down Dara Lund’s legs at Nature Camp, she thought she was dying. Homeschooled by a protective dad after her mom’s mysterious death, Dara wasn’t told the facts of life. “It’s the Curse,” her bunkmates said, not revealing it was her period. “But we can lift it…if you do everything we say.” So began their week of torment, making naive Dara do torturous tasks for their amusement. But now, 10 years later, as they embark on their careers, the three tormentors find themselves cursed—so they reunite to track down the likely a vengeful Dara. And they’ll pursue her to the bloody end.

⭐ Supernatural Horror | Guilt | Retribution

Thank you to Mad Cave Studios for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Flow follows a group of friends who spent their childhood summers together at camp, only to be haunted ten years later by the memory of Dara Lund, a girl they once tormented. Dara’s mother, believed to practice witchcraft rather than modern medicine, was ostracized by the town and later *died in a fire*, leaving behind a legacy steeped in rumor and tragedy.

In the present day, Moe, now working in a lab, confides in Alister about the strange and disturbing events happening around her. The story shifts between past and present as the group reunites, desperate to understand the so-called “curse” tied to Dara and whether their past cruelty has come back to destroy them.

While the premise is eerie and layered with moral tension, I didn’t feel much sympathy for any of the characters, not even Dara. The group’s history of bullying makes it difficult to root for them, and even Dara herself isn’t entirely innocent, as remnants of her mother’s dark magic seem to linger within her and she acts on it.

Flow delivers a chilling atmosphere and themes of guilt, revenge, and consequence. It’s an unsettling, supernatural tale that examines how cruelty never truly disappears, it just waits to resurface.

Flow by Paula Sevenbergen is like THAT friend who insists on telling scary stories at camp after dark — making you want to shit your pants in equal parts terror and fascination, all while sneaking in moments of unexpected depth and reflection.

Well, it’s definitely an odd experience that’s both thrilling and strangely thoughtful which I hardly recommend when reading this comic.

The artwork flows effortlessly, pulling you into its swirling currents with an almost hypnotic grace. Even when the plot meanders or seems to chase its own tail, it never loses its charm. It’s quirky, layered, and most certainly interesting enough to keep you hooked from start to finish.

I’m giving this a massive four stars because I’m still wrestling with whether I’m meant to feel confused or enlightened at the end — and honestly? I’m perfectly okay with both.

I was pretty excited about this one, as the summary really intrigued me. The idea that menstruation is a curse isn’t new in reality, so I was curious to see how it would play out as the reason for an actual curse later on. Unfortunately, it fell a bit flat for me. The art was beautiful, but the plot lacked depth. Nothing really made it stand out aside from its premise. If it had been more fleshed out, it could have easily been a stellar 4/5 stars.

I rounded up to a 3, though, because the dialogue in the flashbacks felt genuine. In fact, I found myself enjoying the flashbacks more than the present timeline.

Would I read book #2? Probably. Sevenbergen is clearly talented, and I still ended up reading this in one sitting. The story feels complete to me, but I’m still curious to see where it might go next.

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Menstruation meets Carrie in a similar supernatural fashion!
Very creative concept and still super creepy! I enjoyed the art style and the conversations flowed very cohesively. It was a very interesting read and I'm glad I got the chance to read it.

I would like to thank the author, publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC book in exchange for an honest review.

I wish this issue were just a little bit longer so we could get a better taste of the horror that's to come in the rest of the series. This feels a bit more like a prologue than a first chapter. I love the concept though. I hope Conley gets what's coming to her. I hope Dara turns out to be okay, but she probably won't be.

What I liked: Seems like Carrie with a twist?
Art & Coloring: Great! Vibrant which was interesting considering the dark subject matter.
Writing: Man did they make me HATE those kids. Writing was excellent.
What I didn't like: The main character.
Final thoughts: I hope she gets her revenge. I hate bullies.
Continuing?: Yes

I really enjoyed this short graphic novel. The pictures and colours are so pretty and captured the characters and curses so well. I liked this unique story. The twists and turns were fun and unexpected. I would definitely pick up another novel.

This was a decent start. It was a little hard to believe this girl wouldn't know she was starting her period but the horror elements seem promising and that's more of what I am here for.

Feels a lil Yellowjackets-y? But I was too wimpy to watch that so unsure.
