I spend my days stealing people’s last breaths. It’s all I’ve ever wanted to do and I’ve spent my life perfecting the art of the kill.
So when someone messes with my carefully constructed plans, they should expect nothing less than a ruthless response.
Which is exactly what I should be giving her. But I can’t help wanting her instead.
No.
Needing her.
By keeping her close, I can make sure she stays out of my way. She’s mine now, whether she likes it or not.
* Sooner Than You Know is a dark romance featuring a quiet but intense alpha assassin and a bounty hunter turned vigilante. It deals with mature themes and contains content that is not appropriate for all readers. Please read the Author's Note for more information.
Thank you so much Taura for the gifted e-ARC of this book!
Taura King is back and so is the Alcott City series! Sooner Than You Know was an exciting, action packed story filled to the brim with all the spicy banter and cat and mouse teasing I could possibly hope for!! Plus a great story with a plot twist that slapped me in the face when I least expected it!
Jet definitely stole the show in this book, he will hunt you down and 💀 you like another day in the office as long as he's home in time to feed Felix because he is a dedicated cat Daddy. 🤣🤣
The absolute chemistry between him and Selene left my knees week and my feet kicking with their back and forth banter and almost instant chemistry. The constant battle for control between these two is probably one of my favorite things about the book because Jet is just so used to being in control of everything and Selene wants that control just as badly so it's like throwing water on a grease fire with these two!
I can't wait for part two in Cain’s book, Deeper Than You Dare!
Favorite quotes:
“You gonna **** for me, or do I have to work harder?” “You’re not that good.” "Liar."
"It's maddening how he affects me, how one man can make me want to fight and surrender all at once."
"I want to taste her, want to feel the pulse of her anger under my hands. I want to wreck her and be wrecked by her."
♡ Dark romance ♡ Both MCs are assassins ♡ Rough sexual encounters ♡ Ends with a sort of cliffhanger
Though these are said to be “standalone”, I strongly recommend reading these books in order to understand the overall plot (which will hopefully be answered in book 3). This book has more violence, betrayals and hidden agendas that were made known in the first book but not any closer to getting answers.
I’m still conflicted on this series. Sooner Than You Know took me a bit of getting used to but it picked up for me at 50%. You have two MCs dealing with their own traumas, loss and struggling to trust. They’re both stubborn, rough edges and banter. I LOVED that she was just as ruthless as he was. She took just as much as he did and it was an endless battle of who would break first. They were pure filth, bite and steamy fury.
“We are allies by circumstance, enemies by association, and something more complicated by the heat that lingers on our lips.”
“You smell like gun oil and desperation, you know that?”…”Better than mango and murder.” 🤭
“You’re a monster, Jet. But you’re my kind of monster.”
Thank you so much Taura King for the eARC! All opinions are my own. ♡
I gotta admit i expected something else when I got it which is not bad!! I'm just a bit AAAAAAAA because I feel like I've missed so much and some Infos just- disappeared mentally? I gotta add I went in almost blind with depression eating my butt so I was also a bit- yeaaaaah at the moment of reading BUT it was still good with good spice and I totally didn't have to watch who was close by just to make sure I can actually read this without worries 😂 -- 4/5 ⭐ 5/5 🌶️
4 IS STILL REALLY GOOD FOR ME!!! -- Its really a good book, easily read and you dont get completely lost! but I recommend that you know things beforehand because- I FELT LIKE I MISSED SO MUCH OF OG STUFF?! I DONT KNOW?! Or at least I felt lost with some informations where i didnt know where to put them tbh 😂
This is book two in the Alcott City series. I enjoyed the first book, but felt it was rushed and could have had more detail so you didn’t feel like things were being skipped in the book. That being said, I truly enjoyed the story and the writing. This book is actually shorter than the first, however, I didn’t feel like things were missing in the storyline. I think it had spice, but it didn’t overshadow the story. It wasn’t nearly as dark as other books I have read, but there were elements of darkness. Overall I really enjoyed the story and of course I will read the third book because this book ends without a resolution and you obviously need to read the third book for the completion of the story.
I devoured this in one sitting. I truly could not put it down. The banter between Jet and Selene made me laugh loud enough that it woke up my husband.
"Her eyes linger, searching for something. “You smell like gun oil and desperation, you know that?” I let myself laugh this time. “Better than mango and murder.”
3🌶️
"You trust me?” She shrugs. “You’re a monster, Jet. But you’re my kind of monster.”
You can totally read this on its own but I highly suggest reading book 1 first. It gives you a better feel of Ares and what all they do! This does end on a cliffhanger but we won't have to wait too long for book 3.
Thank you to Taura for the ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own!
I was so excited to see read the second book after Closer than you think. And it definitely didn't disappoint! It was maybe even better!
In this book we meet two assassins who both have there own reason why they are the way they are. They've been working alone for most of the part, until they meet each other and things start to change. And also don't forget the female rage 👌!
One of the best parts of this book was that it was a bit short then normal. Which I loved! Sometimes you just want to read a shorter book.
I also goes further where the first book ended. I've though it's a stand alone, I do think it's best to read colder than you think first. So that you have a bit more behind the scenes context.
Thank you Taura for gifting this book to my as a ARC ❤️! Can not wait to read the rest!
I have mixed feelings. On one hand, I mostly liked the characters, even if it was hard to get a grasp on what their motivations were. On the other hand, the plot just zipped by, and it didn’t feel fully fleshed out. All of that in mind, this was still a pretty good thriller romance. I liked the story overall, and when the characters were being who we are told they’re supposed to be, I enjoyed them.
✨ I got this book as an ARC so before anything I want to say thank you for this opportunity ✨
I went ahead and read book 1 so I can know the characters better and I’m so happy I did . I absolutely loved book 1 and book 2 just made me fall harder . What’s better than 1 assassin ? 2 assassins who love each other . This book also made me laugh out loud . Taura is a queen at what she does 💐
This was fast paced with some dark themes and quite a lot of spice for a short book. While this book wasn’t really my cup of tea, it was well written. It ends on a bit of a cliffhanger so be aware! The next book will be out soon though so there won’t be a lot of wait.
The release was delayed but it was worth it. I wish the story was longer though! I feel like we could’ve gotten so much more with the characters backstory, however, I still really enjoyed it.
