Love's Landscapes #3

Love's Landscapes Anthology Volume 3

Rate this book
The stories you are about to read celebrate love, sex and romance between men. They are a product of the M/M Romance Group's "Love’s Landscapes promotion sponsored by the Goodreads M/M Romance Group, and each anthology is published as a gift to you.

What Is Love’s Landscapes?

The Goodreads M/M Romance Group invited members to choose a photo and pen a letter asking for a short M/M romance story inspired by the image; authors from the group were then encouraged to select a letter and write an original tale. The result was an outpouring of creativity that shone a spotlight on the special bond between M/M romance writers and the people who love what they produce.

210 stories were submitted and have now been published as a seventeen volume set with five additional bonus volumes, titled Love’s Landscapes. This edition is Volume 3.

The stories in this collection may contain sexually explicit content and are intended for adult readers. They may contain content that is disagreeable or distressing to some readers. The M/M Romance Group strongly recommends that each reader review the General Information section before each story for story tags as well as for content warnings.

THE BLOOD LEGION: ORACLE by Ashlyn Daube - 39.749 words; 24.02.2021, 2h 7min, 4.5- stars

BONDED by Sara York - 16.176 words; 15.03.21, 0h 53min, 3.5- stars
A menage Dom/sub story. As it should be with such stories, it was tender and heartfelt.

THE BOOK & THE ROSE by Douglas Glen - 13.796 words, 21.03.21, 0h 39min, 3.5- stars
This story was told and not experienced, yet I unexpectedly liked it. Instead of not being able to connect to the characters, the style made the story feel like non-fiction. It was very critical of Russia and it's anti-gay politics and general corruption. A warning to sensitive folks, there was one violent and demeaning scene.

BOUND by Amelia Bishop - 21.489 words, 21.03.21, 1h 12min, 3.5+ stars
A short story about Adrien, from waking up after an accident that left him wheelchair-bound to him learning to cope physically to dating and finding love again. Even though the emotions weren't that deep because of the limited word count, I still connected to the characters and enjoyed this story very much. It contained light BDSM scenes.

BRIGHT WATER, DARK SKY by Augusta Li - 39.245 words, 24.03.21, (about 2,5 hours long?), 3.5- stars
I didn't like how well Sora spoke the language after only one long conversation and a software program helping him. That felt unrealistic and took me out of the reading experience. The story was also rather mushy and ista-loveish and we didn't get much information of the sea-folk. Besides that I definitely enjoyed reading it. This story had adventure, violence, space exploration, standing up for what is right, finding your perfect partner and tentacle sex. Yep, you read that right, tentacle sex, more than once ;)

BROKEN PHOENIX by Edmond Manning - 33.372 words; 20.01.19, 4 stars

BROMANCE TO ROMANCE by Elizabeth Daniels - 19.587 words, 24.04.21, 1h 4min, 3.5+ stars
A sweet story about a young man taking a chance and finally kissing his best friend after four years of secretly pining after him.

BUDDING LOVE by Adara O'Hare - 25.553 words, 24.04.21, 1h 33min, 3.5+ stars
Now this was... special. Let's call it special for now. There is dubious consent and betrayal throughout the whole story. I actually really liked it, but was disappointed I didn't get to see trust and love develop over time. The story ends before any trust can be established, not even an epilogue. A complicated mating between three very different individuals with plant tentacles and stingers.

BUSTED by Sofia Grey - 16.779 words, 25.04.21, 0h 56min, 3.5+ stars
A hetero man being highly attracted to another man he meets in a photoshoot. Both are sweet guys and are adorable nervous around each other.

Another good anthology. I'm not really into the whole tentacle fad, despite being an SFR fan, but I think "Bright Water, Dark Sky" by Augusta Li was the absolute best story in that genre that I've read so far. "Broken Phoenix" by Edmond Manning stood out as my favorite. I was literally laughing out loud at lines like, "What's next, my beak falls off?" and "Only a perverse man could smile at the cruelty of reading books." It was a fantastic story and worth reading the anthology for that one alone. "Budding Love" by Adara O'Hare was completely original and out there and had me entertained. All of the stories were good, but these were the ones that stuck out for me.

I really enjoyed fantasy titles in this anthology. And fantasy is not my usual genre.
The Blood Legion: Oracle - Ashlyn Daube
Broken Phoenix - Edmond Manning
Budding Love - Adara O'Hare

Also menage usually makes me uncomfortable. Not these ones:
Bonded - Sara York
Budding Love - Adara O'Hare

I didn't read all of the titles in this volume, but the ones that I did read were okay if not excellent.
