From #1 bestseller and USA Today bestseller Morgan Rice, whose books have over 10,000 five-star ratings, comes the second book in a spectacular new fantasy series, DEATHBORN, ideal for fans of Rebecca Yarros, Callie Hart, and Carissa Broadbent. The series begins with VEILED (BOOK 1 OF THE DEATHBORN SERIES).

At Greyveil Academy, Elara Gray’s necromantic powers draw her deeper into a world of secrets and danger.

Strange magical disturbances threaten the fragile veil between life and death, forcing her to team up with the brooding Deathborn Darian and the captivating Luminary Orion. An ancient text hints at a prophecy tying Elara’s abilities to the academy’s fate, while her mother’s locket reveals cryptic clues about a hidden past.

As tensions rise and alliances shift, Elara must navigate her conflicting feelings and unravel the mysteries before darkness consumes both realms.

Will Elara master her powers in time to save Greyveil?

Seductive romance meets supernatural intrigue in a high-stakes world where mortality's boundaries fade and forbidden power awaits those willing to pay its terrible price. As enemies become reluctant lovers amidst ancient magic and deadly political games, morally complex characters must navigate their darkest desires and dangerous alliances—challenging readers to question how much they would sacrifice for power that transcends the veil between life and death.

Future books in the series are available!

The magic system definitely turned a little more technical and the plot was slightly repetitive compared to the first one.. but it's still enjoyable so far, and I'll tentatively continue this series!

I was given an ARC of this book and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I loved the magical aspects and how Elara always tried to do her best...strong, determined and kind. All the characters suited the plot and the antagonism between factions was tense. There was a struggle for power and those self-important people demanding purity of blood; the typical superior attitude.

The descriptions were well done and atmospheric, while the sense of threat added suspense.

Well-written and engaging.

Recommended.

I don’t normally write reviews but how is this so highly rated? It is terribly written and that is an understatement. There were at least two instances where she used the exact same sentence a few pages apart. The book is so repetitive that I was skipping ahead paragraphs and missed nothing by doing so. I wanted to find out how the story progressed so kept reading but was left very unsatisfied.

In every single description of a character she has to tell you the color of their hair or their eyes. And they are always “catching the light”. At this point we know iris has purple hair….

Magic?

A little bit too much magic to follow. Hopefully the next one will be long like the first novel. If not, my series ends. Morgan Rice is an excellent writer and I enjoyed other books she wrote, but this series I'm not sure I find entertaining.
