The magic system definitely turned a little more technical and the plot was slightly repetitive compared to the first one.. but it's still enjoyable so far, and I'll tentatively continue this series!
I was given an ARC of this book and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I loved the magical aspects and how Elara always tried to do her best...strong, determined and kind. All the characters suited the plot and the antagonism between factions was tense. There was a struggle for power and those self-important people demanding purity of blood; the typical superior attitude.
The descriptions were well done and atmospheric, while the sense of threat added suspense.
I don’t normally write reviews but how is this so highly rated? It is terribly written and that is an understatement. There were at least two instances where she used the exact same sentence a few pages apart. The book is so repetitive that I was skipping ahead paragraphs and missed nothing by doing so. I wanted to find out how the story progressed so kept reading but was left very unsatisfied.
In every single description of a character she has to tell you the color of their hair or their eyes. And they are always “catching the light”. At this point we know iris has purple hair….
A little bit too much magic to follow. Hopefully the next one will be long like the first novel. If not, my series ends. Morgan Rice is an excellent writer and I enjoyed other books she wrote, but this series I'm not sure I find entertaining.
