Desire brought her to him. Darkness may keep them apart.
The moment Decorah Security investigator Morgan Kirkland reads Andre Gascon’s message, she knows the case is wrong—and irresistible. Brutal, ritualistic murders haunt his Louisiana bayou estate, and every instinct tells her the truth is buried deeper than blood and bones.
Andre lives like a prisoner on his own land. He vanishes at twilight. He drinks a strange, bitter tea. And every night, a voodoo priestess arrives at Belle Vista, beating a drum that echoes through the swamp like a warning. Andre swears he’s protecting Morgan by keeping her at arm’s length—but the tension between them burns hotter with every secret he refuses to share.
Pulled together by fate and desire, Morgan must unravel the curse binding Andre before it destroys him completely. Because something ancient is stalking the bayou… and if she can’t break through the walls around his heart, evil will claim them both.
Set against the haunting beauty of the Louisiana bayou, this Decorah Security novel blends dark mystery, slow-burn passion, and fate-driven love into a story that keeps readers turning pages long after midnight.
Ruth Glick (born 1942) is a best-selling author of healthy cookbooks and has also written dozens of romantic suspense romance novels under the pen name Rebecca York.
Ruth earned a B.A. in American Thought and Civilization from George Washington University and an M.A. in American Studies from the University of Maryland. Although she always wanted to become a writer, Glick was convinced that her lack of spelling skills meant that her goal was unattainable. As a stay-at-home mother, she took a community college course to help her choose a career. The course made it very clear that writing was her primary interest. Glick began writing articles for newspapers and magazines, but after several years decided to try writing fiction. Her first book, a kids' science fiction book, was finally purchased by Scholastic Inc..
Since then, Glick has become a highly successful author of over 50 romantic suspense and paranormal novels. Many of her novels are published under the Harlequin Intrigue line, and in June 2003, she became one of the first authors published under Berkley's new Sensation imprint. Before 1997, she often collaborated with Eileen Buckholtz and Kathryn Jenson.
Glick also is a highly regarded author of cookbooks focusing on healthy eating. She sometimes hires trained chefs to test the recipes that she creates, and makes sure that every recipe is tested at least three times before it appears in one of her cookbooks.
Glick is the head of the Columbia Writers Workshop. She and her husband, Norman Glick, live in Columbia, Maryland, where Ruth collects rocks, and enjoys cooking, walking, reading, gardening, travel, and Mozart operas. They have two grown children, Elissa and Ethan, and two grandsons (Jesse and Leo).
The story starts off with just the right amount of mystery to pull readers in but soon falls apart with the lack character development needed to keep readers intrigued. This story is number 21 and with that it should pull readers into a world wanting them to start back at book 1 in the series and read all the way thought. Instead it stops and starts so many times it didn't take much to flip though the pages to figure out the not so mysterious mystery.
Cursed is nothing more than book porn for those who need something sex and little story. There isn't much to the story and is a waste of time and paper.
Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of Rebecca York Cursed.
Cursed is book 21 in the Decorah Security series by Rebecca York. The book focuses on Morgan Kirkland and Andre Gascon. Morgan is given the task of helping Andre investigate the murders which are happening around the Bayou in Louisiana. The book opens straight away with a lot of drama happening to Morgan and some instant attraction happening between her and Andre. Even though she is mourning the death of her husband, she can’t deny that there is a spark and intensity between the two of them.
The book has a lot of twist and turns in it with some added mystery. I loved how the book was based in the haunting Louisiana and how that entwined throughout the telling of the story. As a reader you are drawn into the wonderful story-telling and are intrigued by what is happening in the Bayou, especially with all of the secrets that seems to be going on in it. Two great characters with a great and mysterious story.
ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊
Morgan Kirkland still mourns the loss of her husband. But she has found a new family amongst Decorah. Now deployed undercover to protect and investigate a series of "accidents" that are happening around the estate of Andre Gascon in Louisiana.
Before she even makes it to her post, Morgan is facing danger and ends up being rescued by Andre!
Andre is hiding something from Morgan and his housekeeper seems to be in on the secret. But will his secret hinder her investigation? Will it shed light on the mysterious reports of a "big cat" being in the area?
Another great read in the Decorah series. Morgan is one kickass investigator, male or female! She will do everything she can to uncover what is going on with the dodgy townfolk! Andre is a handsome, enigmatic, caring and an overall enticing client!
I love all the Decorah Security stories, and this one is no exception. Andre and Morgan are working together to capture a murderer who is framing Andre, but their instant connection signifies a much deeper history that they share.
There's a lot going on in this story - voodoo curses, murder, natural disasters, generational revenge, even a bit of reincarnation - and it's all perfectly balanced to deliver an exciting adventure in the Louisiana Bayou. The romance between Andre and Morgan is deeper than either of them could have expected and I was fascinated to read all the innovative developments along the way.
It's a tense and rocky road to their HEA, but once we get through all the secrets what remains is as beautiful a love story as I've ever read. I could not have loved this book more. Highly recommended for anyone who likes a bit of spooky enchantment in their romances.
Another great read in the Decorah Security world and this one is just as fast paced and twisted as the previous books You are totally drawn into the tangled web around Andre Gascon and his home Bella Vista There is far more going on than anyone realises and Morgan Kirkland will be drawn into it as she tries to get to the truth Meanwhile passion is brewing between her and Andre but can they have a future together with so many secrets between them.
Morgan Kirkland is an undercover private investigator employed by Andre Gascon when murders happen around his plantation in Louisiana. There are a lot of things happening in the bayou most of which is unexplained.
A quick read but the author loses her way about half way through whilst trying to expand the story. By which time the reader will have predicted the outcome/secrets being kept. Ok read if a bit predictable.

He chose her to come investigate. It was a conscious, subconscious choice. He has a secret he can't let anyone know about and it's a burden he can't share lightly. She is not going to let his secrets get in the way of her solving the mystery. She's a strong character who has no hesitation fighting for herself and her client. He will protect her as much as he can while they fight the present and the past.
I found this great read on BookSprout. I was caught in its web from the very beginning. It's covered in mystery, inherited curses, the paranormal, plus don't forget the Jaguar! The characters are well fleshed out and practically step off the pages.Morgan and Andre are star crossed Lovers and can never be together without solving the family curse. It kept me guessing throughout and I'm gladly giving this review!
Book 21 of this series! Time has gone by fast. I was thrilled to see a new book in this one and I was not disappointed. It was a well written book with a great storyline. The characters Andre and Morgan are really great. Loved the mystery of the swamp. smooth going and attention grabbing. Hope there will be another from this series later.
It was fast paced, fully of mystery and romance and it had me hooked!
I thought that the level of detail was excellent, the characterisation was perfect and I was able to connect with the characters which made it a really enjoyable read this was one I could not put down!!
It is 5 stars from me for this one - very highly recommended!!
Thank you to Netgalley, the publishing house and the author for the opportunity to read a complimentary advance reader copy of this book in return for review based upon my honest opinion.
This was a lovely quick little romp into the paranormal. It was a good story with great characters and an interesting storyline. I always enjoy books by this author. Great summer read
I loved this story. It's very well written and doesn't drag. The "curse" had a few twists that are different. Just when I thought I had the story figured out it changed. Love when that happens. I recommend this book and the series. I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and freely leave this honest review.
Big secrets deep in the Bayou await this female detective especially where her handsome sexy client is concerned. Is this big jaguar after her or helping her when clawed bodies are found on her clients property.
This story was a combination of magic, reincarnation, and murder. It contains both a fight because an old curse and a modern day fight against greed. It also brought back to me how hard life is when you are different from other people.
A voodoo priestess, a jaguar shifter, a trainer private investigator, a southern gentleman, a loyal housekeeper, a small town sheriff, and hostile town residents. A totally engrossing read befitting the Decorah Security lineage.
I love The Rebecca York Decorah Security books especially the wolf’s. They are great stories and if you like that type of story you will love these......
3.5 stars = I liked it. I enjoyed returning to the Decorah Security world. It's been a long time since I read a Rebeca York book, wow I can hardly believe that this is #21 in the Decorah Security series. The cover blurb really intrigued me, cursed guy in a bayou setting with voodoo, totally up my alley. I really only had on little nit with this, it was that with Morgan working around other supernaturals, she takes a bit to long to consciously figure out Andre's secret. I did like Andre, even though he held his secrets a bit long, and I liked how much he liked Morgan to start. I thought that the weaving between the past and current times was well done. Reading this made me want to go back and pull the other Decorah books off my TBR pile.
