I know, another five stars for a Moskowitz cookbook, am I even capable of giving this woman anything less? The answer is no, but this one really deserves six stars. I love the concept, I love the food photography, I love the recipe notes and hilarious pantry list (but really don't skip it.) I love every gosh darn tasty thing I've made out of it so far.
I started my vegan journey long ago with Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World and learned how to wield a kitchen knife thanks to Vegan with a Vengeance and Veganomicon. It's very fun to see the physical book evolve with the market. Gone are middle of the book insert pictures, and hello to IG worthy shots of every recipe. Hello to glossy pages, goodbye to overnight cashew soaking.
The bold claim that every recipe can be made in 29 minutes is believable when most dishes require little prep and few pans. Personal milage may vary as far as how fast you can dice an onion. That being said this will be my new cookbook for weeknight meals and brunch on the weekends.
Another winner by Moskowitz! I'm already a huge fan of this cookbook writer, and what I love about this one is she addresses the need for people who love to cook but have limited time. Every recipe I've tried is just fantastic. So easy and it's going to mean I can prepare food more often and not worry about it being too tiring to cook.
Within the first 10% of reading the ebook, I thought for sure that I was going to end up buying a physical copy of it. After finishing it, I’m not sure. There are some super unique recipes in here and some of them sound amazing. As usual, I love the way Isa has written the recipes. I just don’t know if there are enough of the types of recipes I would want from this sort of book. It’s set up by days of the week, but also category. Monday: Sandwiches, Tuesday: Tacos, Wednesday: Soups, Thursday: Salads, Friday: Girl Dinner, Saturday: Plates/Bowls, Sunday: Brunch, Sunday: Pasta, and then also Sweet Treats. Personally, I would have preferred a much larger selection of Plates/Bowls recipes. Honestly, if I could only eat “bowl recipes” for dinner, I’d be happy. A bunch of stuff in a bowl is basically perfect for me. I understand the idea of this layout, but it doesn’t seem practical given the fact that I feel like the majority of people aren’t making 10 different types of tacos and people really aren’t using recipes for girl dinner. That’s antithetical to the whole idea of girl dinner, imo. But what do I know?
I'm really excited to try many of these recipes. They seem accessible, and there's a lot of overlap in ingredients, which is helpful so I'm not buying something for just one dish.
I thought I’d want to own this one because the premise really works for me and what she says about it appeals to me including cooking mostly from scratch (with some exceptions some of the time) but when she got to the equipment you definitely need (and many of those I don’t have and don’t have room/plugs to have) and when I saw the many ingredients (some not common) for the recipes, I changed my mind.. She does give many useful time saving and other tips. She does also provide a lot of other useful information and just for those parts this book could serve as a great reference book.
I’m a picky eater and so, as with almost every cookbook, I’d have to adapt many of the recipes to my taste.
I like her a lot. This is a good book and a great idea for a book. Most of her books are not “quick and easy” though I think all are doable. I like some of her other cookbooks better than this one, though if it hadn’t had a due date I would have liked more time with this book because I’d like to make the following recipes:
From Taco Tuesday:
Butternut and Adzuki Autumn Tacos (I might leave out the maple syrup.)
From Soups and Stews:
Miso Stew with Potatoes and Kale
Broccoli Cheddar Chowder with Blackened Tofu
From Plates and Bowls:
Pan-Roasted Harissa Eggplant with Chimichurri and Apricot Couscous
Tofu Marsala
Muffin Tin Me’at Loaf with Ketcheup Gastrique and Mashed Potatoes (I’d leave out the vinegar.)
From Sunday Mornings:
Shrooms and Grits
From Pasta:
Tofu Balls and Spaghetti
Black Bean and Cabbage Lo Mein
Cauliflower Fettuccine Alfredo
Orzo Pesto with Grilled Asparagus
Baba Ghanoush Pasta
Lasagna Toss with Tofu Ricotta Olivada (I’d leave out the vinegar.)
From Sweet Treats:
Chocolate Sheet Cake with Ganache
There are more recipes that look good to me but with a lot of tinkering.

Really great quick cookbook. I love Isa's cookbooks, but this is one of my faves. I find weeknights so hard - I can't make complicated things bc I'm so busy, and this one is full of great, fast recipes, and i love her style, plus how she encourages simplicity and being sloppy.
I’m obsessed with this cookbook! The recipes are really fun and simple to make. It’s been great for meal prepping and also making quick, creative dinners.
