Making Headlines

Brooke Hastings almost won a Pulitzer Prize for her hard-hitting reportage. Now she’s sitting on the story of a lifetime and wants to prove she’s not a one-hit-wonder. But in order to get the world to take notice, she’ll need the help of the one person she loves to hate—Brian Dalton.

Brian Dalton stumbled into celebrity when he landed a show on the Earth Channel. But the hunky marine biologist never forgot the serious, studious boy who left Mobile a decade before. Now back in Alabama, he’s looking for the quiet life he always wanted and hoping for a chance with the girl he always loved. When Brooke asks him to help expose some of the lingering effects of the Gulf oil disaster, Brian jumps at the chance to help preserve the place both call home…

It’s such a pleasure when you come upon a story that’s as smartly written as this one. Doesn’t hurt that the hero and heroine have brains and beauty to spare. But what I appreciated most was the history the two characters shared. It made their reunion as adults much more meaningful.

This isn’t your typical friends-to-lovers story. More like competitive rivals realizing they were both after the same thing all along. But there’s way more than a would-be romance on the line here. Brooke’s after a story, and Brian could be the guy to help her give it the attention it needs. Their interview on board his ship turns into an explosion of chemistry that would wow any scientist.

“I’ve known you almost all my life and wanted you for half that time.”

Brooke and Brian fall fast and deep, combining their forces into a story that makes headlines and a love that transcends it all. The characters, the setting, and the richness of this story will pull you under for a hell of a fun ride!

“What do I look like when I’ve been kissed right?” “You look like you belong with me.”

I know I’ll be reading this one again and again!

Going Deep is a delicious book based in the deep south. I love southern USA books. The people were not over the top and southern lifestyle oozed from the pages.

I loved that Brooke was a smart reporter and it was interesting that Brian was a marine biologist. Great combination. I wanted to go for a cruise on Brian's boat!

Going Deep is a perfect beach romance read. Light, sexy and you genuinely like the characters.

This story started off cute and likable but it was a really short quick read. The main characters are likable the couple doesn't rush into marriage and kids at the end which was a total plus for me but the story was rushed.

Brian comes back to town after his career takes a turn for the worst and he runs back into Brooke who has been his whole world for half his life. It starts out Brooke wanting to interview him to them jumping into a relationship and Brooke resigning from her job.

During this story I didn't really see any major conflict. They had a little spat but the next day things are normal and they are confessing love. I think I wanted not only more of a background on these characters but more of a relationship that progressed over time.

I did like that Brooke was a reporter and Brian was a oceanographer which I thought was very unique in the books that have come out so far this year. I just felt like it was missing a few things for me and I would have loved to see more.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher Lyrical via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. The expected publication date is September 15th, 2015.

This was a short story so in turn will be a short review.

If you are looking for a story about two people who come together as adults after growing up together and competing over everything and then spending many years apart. It is a story about how two people who thought they were enemies we actually the best of friends by challenging the other to do better. It is a story about how perspective can change as an adult.

Did I mention that it is also hot and steamy? Yes it also has that.

If you are looking for a short read with a little bit of adult content then this is a nice interlude from the everyday grind

Another dynamic romantic recipe concocted by Ms. Wells, a mix of ex-nerds and former beauty queens, combining forces just like you'd mingle sweet tea and apple tarts from Weston's Bakery. The author has a winning way of making you root for her couples from the first page, and Brooke and Brian are certainly no exception. I'm very happy that this is a series!

My favorite thing about Going Deep? Hands down, the narrative’s quick-witted and smart sense of humor. The banter, animosity, and simmering sexual tension between main characters kept me invested through the last chapter. Even though the second Coastal Heat installment (Flip This Love) will feature a different couple, I’ll definitely be reading when it comes out.

Additional elements I liked:
• I loved the dynamic between the two main characters. Their history actually reminded me how pivotal one’s high school experience can be, and how common it is to carry those memories—those grudges—for many years.
• While I usually read new adult romance (which features a younger cast of characters), reading about Brooke and Brian’s established, specialized careers was refreshing. The latter’s was especially unique to me as a reader, which is awesome because I learned about a new-to-me field of study while simultaneously being entertained.
• The author’s use of language, especially the “smart” vocabulary and word play.

Favorite scene: the characters’ rib-eating rendezvous :)

Favorite quote: “Brooke seemed to shift and reform with each time he blinked. Like a kaleidoscope of gorgeous pink and gold hues. A crazy amalgamation of the determined girl everyone underestimated because she happened to be born beautiful…”

If you’re looking for a light-hearted tale with a sense of humor—where the brainy type wins out over the once-popular bad boy, and where manners and etiquette reign supreme—Going Deep by author Maggie Wells makes an excellent choice.

This may contain spoilers.....

First off, I was given this book for an honest review and I can honestly say that I had a hard time putting this book down to pay attention to my kids. Maggie Wells hooked me year ago with Seducing Steve. She has a clever way of weaving words in such a funny way that it appears like it would take me all year and she probably woke up that funny. Fall off the tongue humor with quick quibs. And the added southern charm is a plus in my book.

I love snark and awkward moments because real life is about fumbling around, falling in love and falling into bed and Wells captured just that. I love the give and pull of the relationship between our lovers. They are both strong MC with soft gooey centers when the other is concerned. And both thumbs down on the antagonist. Nicely done!

This is a shorty but worth every word you read. The sex scene is well done and a bit shift worthy. Grab your copy today and take a tumble in the sheets, or boat, with this delectable read.

Brooke is formally a Pulitzer Prize nominated reporter but she hasn't had any big stories in a while, so when a big story comes back into town as her frenemy from high school, Brian, she knows she needs to get the story. In school they were always in competition with each other. What Brooke doesn't know is that Brian always wanted to be with her and that's why he was mean to her, and he still wants her.

I just couldn't get into this one. The romance just felt forced to me, and Brian didn't have much of a personality at all. He was more like a robot. I didn't feel the chemistry at all. Then the ending wasn't much of an ending at all. The climax was over before it even began and then nothing was answered about what was going to happen to them career wise.

A rather nice tale with likeable characters and was nicely written and not too bad in length either. You like Brooke Hastings and Brian Dalton when you meet them and even though their complete opposites that kind of compliments the other. It might be a bit complicated when one doesn’t even like the other, but when circumstances forces them to work together, you just kind of know, something is going to happen. It was good and had its moments, but you enjoyed every moment. So if you get a chance check it out and enjoy.

Sexy and fun, Going Deep is a quick, yummy read.

I loved the over-achiever geek turned oceanographer alpha male and the equally intelligent journalist heroine. Despite their frenemy status in youth, neither doubts that they share lots of chemistry now. All the elements work well here to create a very enjoyable read.

I'd say this is a stand alone novel, with lots of potential for a follow-up book or novella. Personally, I want to know what happens next.

I received an ARC of this book, via Net Galley, in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This quick read is sexy, funny, and completely enjoyable. Nothing too deep to the story but enjoyable all the same. It's a second chance story set in Alabama. Both the H/h have achieved their share of fame and humiliation but now they are both back in Mobile and working together to expose the catastrophic effects the gulf oil spill had on the region. Working on the expose may not be all they are working on though.....

I really did enjoy this one and I think you will too. I recommend it.

I really love it when an author takes a short quick read and makes exceptional! Maggie Wells did just that with Going Deep!! Brina and Brooke fell for each other fast but they fell hard, and it was totally legit. :) I loved the quick pace of the story and the well written chemistry between the leads. Excellent job on a quicky :)

A great start! But I felt like it just kind of ended without actually having an ending. I was with Brooke and Brian the whole time. I was rooting for them to get together and take down the man...and then Wells just let it taper off. I wanted more.

This book is very well written, but I wish it had been longer! It ended in a strange spot and I really wanted to find out the resolution to the article/oil spill fall out.
