A twisted, dark tale of Rowan who is searching for answers to something she once confessed, but doesn’t remember. She’s invited to a dark, secret retreat isolated on an estate to heal from her broken past.
This psychological thriller kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book. Just when you thought you had figured something out, wrong. And the twisted mental mind games that go with it. Prepare yourself for a great read!
Book overview She once confessed to something she can’t remember—now she must uncover whether it was the truth, a lie she believed, or a memory they put there.
Rowan Lake arrives at the Blackwell Estate, hoping for clarity. A place for healing. A second chance. But something feels wrong.
The staff are too calm. The guests, too quiet. The silence presses in. She begins therapy. The sessions run deep. Too deep.
Old memories surface. Fragments. Confessions. Voices she doesn’t recognize. Except they are her own.
She sees herself on videotape. Saying things she doesn’t remember. Doing things she swears she never did.
Nicholas, the estate’s manager, remembers her from before. He once tried to protect her.
Now he’s caught in something he can’t control. He warns her to stop digging. But it may already be too late.
The retreat is watching her. Recording her. Rewriting her. There’s a hidden archive. Dozens of tapes. Rowan finds them. Each one worse than the last.
Then she finds the missing one. The final confession. A record of what they made her say. And what they made her forget.
Confess by Skye Arden 🌟🌟🌟🌟 This is an exciting, twisty and creepy thriller! Rowan Lake decides to go to a retreat at Blackwell Estate for some healing and time for herself. But once she arrives, she instantly notices that things are a bit off there. Something is definitely not right at this place. Old memories start to resurface for Rowan and as she tries to figure out what is true, it becomes difficult because she doesn’t remember several of these memories. There are lots of secrets, lies and mysteries in this book! The story is well written and very entertaining! It had me guessing and questioning things from start to finish!
What a profound novel with each and every page heavy with intrigue, tension, threat, and suspicion!! I would not classify this novel as sci-fi and yet there is a big part of the plot that seems sci-fi with a twist. It is a psychological thriller for which you need a seat belt to hold on and yet it spends a big part of the story plunging deeply into a mysterious location with twists and turns at every corner! It could be one of the wildest stories I've read in a long time! It's a heavy read; but it takes you deep into a twisted situation that knocks you around and keeps you guessing like an unending wooden roller coaster wildly speeding through absolute darkness! (No, there's no roller coaster in the story; you feel like you've been on one flying around the twists non-stop for the entire time you're reading. Do read it!!
Downloaded ‘Confess’ from Book Funnel and thought why not check it out for ARC. 🤪 I have to be honest that I’m not really enjoying ‘Confess’ as I don’t feel connected to the storyline… maybe that’s just me?! 🤯🤷🏼♀️ Rowan Lake is searching for answers to something she once confessed but she doesn’t have any memories of it. Rowan has decided to go to Blackwell Estate to heal from her broken past.
But I’m willing to give ‘The House She Never Left’ a go soon and see if I would enjoy that one more… 📕
Have you ever had the feeling that someone is watching you? Or that you are being followed? How about you know there is something you should remember by it's just out of reach?or have someone ask why you did a certain thing and your first reaction is "I wouldn't do that!" But then you start to think that maybe you did? Memory is such a tricky thing. Do my memories match yours? Are you sure that item you saw on the table was really there or is your memory faulty and there was never anything on the table? In Confess, several people have been invited to The Crane Institute on the Blackwell Estate. It's not an asylum, but somewhere people can heal. Or that's what they want you to believe. But how can you heal when you can't remember, when your memories are different, when someone or something is always watching. And waiting. And creating tapes of everything. First of all, let me say I don't like scary books or movies or anything else. I don't read Stephen King. I haven't seen Alien. I don't go to haunted house at Halloween. So how did I end up reading Confess? No clue. But once I started, I had to finish it. I had to find out who the bad people where and if there were any good people left. And if the institute was . . . Well, you will have to reach your own conclusions about the institute. Did I get spooked reading this book? Yes. But I had to know. I had to find out who would confess and what would happen to everyone. The book draws you in and won't let go. Did I like it? Not sure. But it was good. Now you need to read it. You need to find the watchers. And decide if there is something you need to confess.
Scary, creepy and a story that will stay with you for a long, long time!
When I started this story, I wasn’t sure what to expect. An investigative reporter who ended up losing her career after a story she broke ended up breaking her. Everything that could go wrong in the trial did and that ended her career. She ended up in therapy and eventually, she escaped from the Estate. Then one day, she gets an invitation to return and some might say foolishly, she returns. That’s when the real fun begins. Well, not fun for Rowan anyway. This poor woman ended up going through so much, over and over again. This is a very creepy, scary story and one that I will be thinking about for a long, long time.

This psychological thriller is full of twists and turns. Rowen Lake is the main protagonist who checks in to Blackwell Estates for therapy and some healing unfortunately she finds much more. The characters are quite well developed and interesting and the book takes some very interesting twists and turns in what is anything but a boring story. I really enjoyed this book as too often I guess the ending before I'm even 3/4 of the way through but this story kept me guessing and turning the pages long after bedtime. I highly recommend it I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving an honest review
“Confess” by Skye Arden is a dark, twisty thriller. Rowan goes to a retreat for therapy, but soon realizes she’s being watched, recorded, and rewritten. She discovers a hidden archive of tapes and finally the missing tape, the final confession, a record of what they made her say…and what they made her forget. Her struggle to remember what was erased versus what was planted makes the story deeply unsettling. Secrets, lies, and shocking revelations unfold with every chapter. Suspenseful, chilling, and impossible to put down!
This was a difficult read. I certainly felt for the two main characters, the weaponization what’d supposed to be therapy. Those bits were indeed scary and brutal.
With the house I feel if the author had been able to show more of it visually it’d be easier to follow. I know I would in no way want to go soul-searching in haunted house (which this wasn’t but awfully familiar!)
What I felt was the major failure for me was dang, gurl—-get to the ending all ready! It dragged for me, would have tighted the narrative a bit.
But overall, decent read. A good suspense/thriller for fans.
Confess is stated to be a psychological thriller and it definitely is. The patients of years before are invited back for, healing? Confession? Murder? Who is controlling the every movement these pat patients make? Are they being drugged? Are they going crazy? Will they be healed in this crazed prison they are now in? If you like Psychological Thrillers you will enjoy the book Confess by Skye Arden. I will be looking for more of her books.
This psychological thriller follows Rowan as she tries to come to terms with her past and decides to take up an invitation to the Blackwell retreat. However things take a wild turn when she is forced to confront reality. The story seemed to drag on at times but overall an interesting psychological thriller.
Confess by Skye Arden is chilling, twisty, and unforgettable. Rowan’s search for the truth pulls you into a maze of memories, manipulation, and mind games that will leave you questioning everything. Dark, unsettling, and impossible to put down!
Rowan Lake returns to Blackwell Estate to try to remember what she confessed to. Manipulation and mind control that is almost impossible to escape. A dark novel with a number of twists. Keeps you reading.
This definitely was correctly described as a psychological suspense. Definitely a lot of suspense and mystery throughout. Very interesting characters in a very bizarre setting.
A Exciting mystery with Murder and lots of suspense . Great characters to this book too. I enjoyed this book which is an unforgettable thriller and recommend this book to other readers.
I received this book as an ARC. A mysterious invitation to a retreat. Any why would you tell anyone that you're going? What could go wrong. Everything! Rowan and Nicholas are just trying to survive and figure out what is happening. What happened long ago. I really liked the psychological aspect of the story. Lots of great scenes. Kept me guessing!
If you are looking for a creepy, full of twists and captivating read, look no more! This will give you the chills continuously throughout the book, along with gripping your mind with wondering what comes next. You will never have this book figured out before it throws you for a loop once again!
