An eye for an eye was the motto Mac Valentine lived by. So when a business rival dared to sully his reputation, Mac decided to strike back using his enemy's daughter--Olivia Winston. He'd hire her, seduce her, then walk away. But Olivia was no easily manipulated pawn. She tempted him like no other woman. And for once Mac wondered if his plan for revenge would destroy not only his conquest, but himself as well.
I really enjoyed this Harlequin. The romance was sweet and I enjoyed the author's writing. I like how the author turned some common Harlequin tropes on their head:
- The hero plans on using the heroine for revenge against her father for business reasons, yep I've seen this before. But this time, the heroine knows he plans on using her some way but she is intelligent enough to see what he is trying to do and decides to do work for him anyway and be professional.
- There is a "big secret" about the heroine that you just know the hero will find out about. In some Harlequins, the hero would have flipped out about it. But this hero stands up for the heroine and tells off the person who told him.
If you want to read an enjoyable sweet romance with a smart likable heroine and a hero who tries to be tough but is actually a really good guy, give this one a try. I plan on checking out the rest of this series and her other books.
I didn't like it, made no sense to me for hero to go after heroine to get revenge on her father. While I was glad his intentions were all out in the open, it did make the plot weird that heroine just went along with everything and let herself be revenge against her father by associating with the hero. Np.
